Depends on how you define conservatism. *I* define it as wanting to bring this country (especially the Constitution and associated laws) back toward where the Founders originally intended.

I'd like to see *real* teeth in the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, and all of the remaining Amenements to once again be ironclad (not just the First). I call this Constitutional conservatism.

Would I like to see more moral behavior and a culture that hearkens more toward our past (that is, social conservatism)? Sure, but how do you enforce that, especially in California? More than a hearts-minds-issue, it's a cultural issue. short of God striking down Hollywood and nigh every TV personality (and leftist) there is, I don't see anything changing for the better. From what I can see, cultures tend to change on their own; it's very hard for humans to force cultural change. Since the wackos have a stranglehold on *all* of our cultural outlets, I guess I just don't see any way to really effect change (short of buying all the liberal outlets up).

Please look around before posting about premature support.

Anyone saying at this stage that "only Arnold can win,"and who is therefore supporting him on that basis, is doing so very prematurely.

I've looked around, and there are tons of them in this forum.

Unforetunately, the bandwagon for McC will not grow. The needed electorate will not turn out for him.

He understood the meaning of "is" alright. That is why he was so embarrassed to be a Republican during the impeachment and thought seriously of leaving the party. Committing perjury is fine, not an impeachable offense so says Arnold.

Bizarre. The dissolution of the Roman Republic bizarre and its parallels to today not worthy of consideration? At the very least, rent Gladiator. V's wife.

Attached picture of patriot MadClintock will substitute until you provide actual military service picture:

See, this is why people just like you are destroying the GOP. I don't even think this story is a big deal for this election, but its just another launch pad into an unrelated INSANE rant by you hyperpartisans that will dive to any depth for your guy. How did McClintock get involved with this goofball? Are you thinking that attacking him makes you feel like a big man? Like I said before, this is a loss for (R)nold, deal with it. He can say it was in the past and he doesn't think doing what he did to that girl was appropriate and no one should judge him, but to rationalize this, actually to just attack "the other guy" because you value political power is so brazenly greedily will turn off the independents who see you as nothing but an immoral government controling utter hypocrite.

It happened along time ago, stop rationalizing it and just forget about it.

I hope its just the death of the religious right, typlifying those with whom I am disgusted.

One doesn't have to be a member of the 'religious right' in order to have basic standards of decency. I know atheists and pagans with better character than Arnold.

First of all this is ugly stuff, and it is what the rats said they were going to do, and it stinks! Second of all, most Californians are not any less disgusted by this than the rest of you. How ridiculous of freepers to say such things as if we are all a bunch of sexed up pot heads with no morals. I for one am sick to death of this kind of thing on FreeRepublic.

Well you may have found a ton of something, but it wasn't Schwarzenneger defenders saying they wouldn't vote for McClintock under any circumstance. Find one poster of the Arnold is Bustamante set who would vote for Scwarzenegger under any circumstances. I rest my case.

So you come down on the side of trashing Arnold 24/7?

What was Cruz Bustamante doing in 1977 while under the sway of MEChA? Calling for the overthrow of the U.S. Government? I love this side of Arnold. What a fun governor he will make. Just the star value itself will bring large economic benefits to the state.

Don't get me wrong, 68 grunt. I like McClintock. I think he has a great future ahead of him. Just not this time.

But suppose Arnold did drop out? McClintock would get his ass handed to him. The TMC supporters don't want to admit that, because it is not in our nature to admit that most of the people disagree with us. McClintock might pull 20% of the vote, but in all probability, it wouldn't matter, because the recall itself would lose.

Most of the mushy middle would run, pell mell, back to the Devil they know, Grayout. Not because Tom is wrong on the issues. He isn't . He's right on the issues. But middle of the road voters are into tolerance and bipartisanship. Davis and Bustamecha would have a field day. Bob Mulholland wouldn't need to pull out his bad stuff against TMC. He wouldn't need it.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

But, if an outsider wants to go to Sacremento and toss out the unions, well I'd even vote Liberatarian.

What if a lying populist spouting snake oil salesman tells you he is going to do exactly what you want, are you really that naive?

Just stick to principles, please. It was wrong, that doesn't mean people won't and shouldn't vote for him in my opinion, but to DEFEND it is a whole other matter.

And Bush I and Bob Dole were openly and proudly anti-abortion; were they ever able to advance our pro-life cause when they could not win the presidency? I don't remember a lot of "conservatives" supporting Bush for his pro-life stance after they were "betrayed" by his breaking the no-new-taxes pledge. The point is, if you don't like a candidate, you will probably find something about him that you can stand on principle so as not to vote for him. That is even probably true of 100% of the candidates. Fine. But don't you even want a seat at the table to talk about your positions? And don't you believe people change in 25+ years? I sure have.

Unforetunately, the bandwagon for McC will not grow. The needed electorate will not turn out for him.

Just understand how much you strengthen the Democrats by saying so.

Calling McClintock "unelectable" is not good for the GOP either now, or in the future, despite the hearfelt sentiments of those in Arnold's camp.

I've seen what you've posted about "social conservatives destroying the country" on this thread. I understand that you are just some loud mouth popping off and that is your style, but your opinions disgust me, and you have no right to profane the name of conservative.

Show me a social liberal, and I'll show you a liberal.

Judging by many of the posts in this thread, not many freepers saw Pumping Iron.
It shows quite plainly an ambitious and shrewd young man playing it to the hilt in a "sport" that is extremely competitive, not just physically, but mentally. The glamour and adulation that comes with being a world champion bodybuilder obviously has its "perks".
If Arnold claimed to be some sort of angel through that I'd have good reason to doubt him.
I'll also add that was an interview that was by design juicy and racey, because that's what people wanted to read, and he gave them the show they wanted.
This is all much ado about nothing. Everyone knows Arnold has a racey past, and most people either find it titillating, or don't care. I find it ridiculous that anyone be judged because they partied some 25+ years ago and used crude language in a magazine full of crude language.

That's right; and he was an equal opportunity sex provider, something that all the libs who care about minorities should love. I really do not care what he did as far as this topic goes when he was 29. If he committed murder or rape, then I would care.... This should not hurt him.

I predict Arnold will get a bounce among the fags in S.F. for his remarkably tolerant comments regarding the "fag business".
