Bogus Betrayal? [New York Times (mis)identifies livid lib as disillusioned Bush supporter]
Fox News "Special Report" - "The Grapevine" ^ | 28 August 2003 | Brit Hume

Edited on 04/22/2004 12:37:04 AM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

In a front-page story Tuesday on the President and his compassionate conservative agenda, the New York Times said that, "some religious supporters of Mr. Bush say they feel betrayed by promises he made as a candidate and now, they maintain, he has broken as president." The story relies heavily on quotes from one Reverend Jim Wallis, whom the Times describes as an, "early supporter" of the President. Wallis tells the Times Mr. Bush has, "failed the test." He is the only person in the whole story identified as a Bush supporter. But Wallis is, in fact, an ardent Democrat, who did not vote for Mr. Bush, and who edits a liberal religious magazine called Sojourners, which has consistently criticized the President and his administration. None of this is mentioned in the Times story.

I think there's a good chance Hillary will run. As with 2000, I will do my best to not get too anxious about the outcome as ultimately God will put in who He wants. That said, I will work hard to make sure it's not Hillary!

I think a LOT of people who say they won't vote for Bush because of this perceived slight are disruptors. If they post on this site, they are very politically aware. If they really feel that way about the 10 commandments than they should call Bush (I have). But it's almost useless to try to defend Bush against the absolutists as a lot of them didn't vote for Bush in the first place, or are just carping and will reluctantly vote for Bush in '04 if it's close.

Keep working hard for W!

During the 2000 presidential campaign Brian Lamb became curious about so many "Republicans" calling in to C-SPAN to denounce GW. He decided to ask one elderly caller why. The very sweet old lady went silent then confessed that, yes, they were Democrats living in retirement homes with nothing to do and the 'rat party had kinda deputized them into calling shows and pretending to be Republicans. They're obviously still at it.

There's a new group who say they are Republicans, but will vote for Dean. They even call Rush.

Uh, been in any major Protestant churches in the last, oh, three decades?

There are zillions of 'Reverends' in all kinds of mainline churches that are as leftist as Joseph Stalin. Maybe a better way of saying what I believe you were aiming at is that any pastor, from any church, that espouses leftist drivel has no connection to Christ, a traditional othodoxy or a consistent revelation.

Unfortunately, that is exactly the kind of pastor that infests far too many churches today because of weak-kneed Christians that were afraid of rocking the boat back a few decades when these these draft-dogers found liberation theology and the social gospel.

Yea, I meant something like that. Does the Souther Baptist church I was in bible study at last night count as a major Protestant church?

The Baptists were never part of the Reformation as far as I know, so, no, they aren't considered Protestant.

Besides, y'all done pretty good at kicking out the heretics in the last few years. Even Jimmy Carter left (or was flushed out of cover - more like it) sniveling sour grapes about the harshness and all.

Good for you. Y'all went back to standards and the revisionist apostates and heretics couldn't stand it.

I'm shocked I tell you, shocked.

I wait for the statement that comes out of the Southern Baptist Convention every year. It is guaranteed to send howls of complaint through the liberal media.

Rush needs to get onto this today in his show. As Neal Boortz says about the Social Security fight, "The Godfather (Rush) has to get involved with this or the President won't win it." It is awesome to have that big megaphone to let the entire country know what's going on and we are grateful, Rush.

Never mind. This is an old story. Piasa pinged me to it because Wallis features in a new NYT story, about how he's the 'Rat's latest guru on how to connect with values oriented voters. I replied here without realizing this was may own posting from August '03!

What's that tagline Laz used to use?

Jim Wallis is still at it like the energizer bunny, but even more annoying. Watch the Evangelical Covenant denomination as well.
