Ahhhhh...some things never change. Where I grew up, there were Philipino wives, Okinawan wives, Vietnamese wives...now I guess there will be some Iraqi wives.

When I was a young soldier, I would probably have said "Wow, true love triumphs- what a great story". But I'm older and pretty cynical, and I just see a couple of troops who disobeyed a series of direct orders in a combat zone.

What other orders are they prepared to disobey, I wonder?

Too bad they didn't listen to their senior American officers. These marriages won't survive because of cultural differences alone. There will probably be children right away and this will further complicate the matter.

The two couples may be very much in love, but when the grooms converted to Islam I doubt that they knew very much what they were doing. There is a book called "The Two Faces of Islam," and that about says it all.

Conversely, if the brides ever arrive in the Western world they may find that the Christian world is quite different from the Muslim world, and decide to change their faith. We can only wish them well.
