Discharge them from service. Let them remain in Iraq with their new wives to rebuild a Democratic Iraq. Do not let them return to the United States with their wives.

converted to Islam in an Iraqi court a couple of weeks before the ceremonyWish them the best but starting out with a conversion of convience will come back to haunt them.

It had to happen. But how do the GI's handle women with thicker beards and ass hair than them?

In spite of the prohibition, the soldiers -- National Guardsmen from the Florida Panhandle -- converted to Islam in an Iraqi court a couple of weeks before the ceremonyThis is winning their hearts and minds is it?

Ahhhhh...some things never change. Where I grew up, there were Philipino wives, Okinawan wives, Vietnamese wives...now I guess there will be some Iraqi wives.

When I was a young soldier, I would probably have said "Wow, true love triumphs- what a great story". But I'm older and pretty cynical, and I just see a couple of troops who disobeyed a series of direct orders in a combat zone.
What other orders are they prepared to disobey, I wonder?

The soldiers now are appealing to U.S. officials in and out of the military to begin the visa process for their wives. It's unclear whether their superiors know the weddings took place or how they might react
Well they know now

"...they had to battle disapproving senior American officers..." Too bad they didn't listen to their senior American officers. These marriages won't survive because of cultural differences alone. There will probably be children right away and this will further complicate the matter.

If these were Afro-American soldiers, why was their race not stated in the article?

Some of these Iraqi chicks are hot. Olive skin with hazel, green or even blue eyes. And beautiful. Not like the monkeys you find in Ramallah, Amman and Cairo.

Where's the gag alert? Yes, discharge the soldiers and let them live happily ever after, or 30 days whichever comes first, in the Iraqi street. Like anyone believes the gals weren't after a free trip to the US. Of course the soldiers were following their other heads in not demanding the gals become Christians. What was the rush to the alter? Seems with all the picnics and disruptive visits to the soldiers' duty posts (hello, commander!) they had enough smoozing to wait until closer to time to come home, unless there's a couple little Saddams on the way. Now comes the problem of taking troops off their assigned duties to guard the wives. Geez.

Nothing new here. If you send an American anywhere, they will bring home women. Some guys just can't leave it where they found it.
