Oh, what a wimpy war [Mulshine]

If the object of war is to impose one's will upon the enemy, the United States is losing the war on terror.

If you doubt that, I invite you to consider what's going on in London today. A group of fundamentalist Muslims is commemorating the two-year anniversary of the martyrdom of "The Magnificent 19," the hijackers who killed 3,000 Americans. You can see the poster advertising the gathering on the group's Web site (www.almahajiroun.com). There's a phone number on the poster. I called it the other day and got an affable chap named Abdul Rehman Saleem. A native Londoner, he sounded as cheery and chirpy as Mary Poppins.

Paul Mulshine is one of my favorite columnist and helped me define my path to conservatism.  However, he does not like GW and this blinds him on occasion.

I especially hate it when Paul intermingles the comments of a horse's arse with perfectly insightful prose.  His agreeing that Bush ignores Saudi Arabia because of oil and U.S. Christian fundamentalism is downright stupid.  I do think that the US should be coming down harder on Saudi Arabia.  In fact, I think the invasion of Iraq was sort of a proxy for Saudi Arabia.

However, it's not due to oil or Christians in the US.  One need look no further than Kissinger's "real politick" mode of thought to get the answer.  Saudi Arabia is the geographic home of Islam and action against it would likely hasten the clash of civilizations that is coming regardless.  GW may not want to be in the hot seat when that day comes but it would be nice to add him to the list of others who successfully led to the defeat of Islam when the western world was threatened.

It is an OUTRAGE!I believe that our forces should have continued their drive into Saudi Arabia!!We are(it would appear)involved in"Nation Building"in Iraq.If this grand experiment takes hold,it will spread like wildfire throughout the Middle East, but there is still no substitute for "Boots On The Ground"!!!

The group's website is no longer functioning. Apparently, he gets results.

Washington and Jefferson's "great Experiment" lives and is growing stronger thanks to Bush and Reagan.

We could have just allowed Saddam to invade SA in the first place and saved two wars and billions of dollars (not to speak of giving liberals an issue).

You are joined by a lot of us in your outrage.

However, I don't think many people look at the invasion of Saude Arabia the way strategic geo-politicians do. The unspoken problem--the elephant in the room that everyone ignores if you will--is that the invasion of the country that holds Islam's holiest sites would indeed create a holy war between Muslims and the invading country.

Most Muslims are not sophisticated secular nationalists who would simply shrug off the invasion as a geo-political strategy move. They would see it as an affront to their faith.

And nothing trumps faith in the Middle East as a lightning rod for war.
