Memo shows Iraq, Iran tried to contact bin Laden

The Taliban claimed in a 1997 meeting with U.S. officials that it had blocked attempts by both Iraq and Iran to contact Osama bin Laden, according to a previously confidential State Department memo made public yesterday.

The memo says that the assistant secretary of state, Karl Inderfurth, was told on Dec. 7, 1997, by the Taliban's acting minister of mines and industry, Armad Jan, that his government "had stopped allowing [bin Laden] to give public interviews and had frustrated Iranian and Iraqi efforts to contact him."

I think Bush is now stuck taking on too much of Clinton's messy diapers. The interesting thing is that Bush seems to relsih the task, but does not want to drag his predecessor through the mud. That is someting I cannot for the life of me understand.

In addition, I think the American people are very understanding, once they know the circumstances. I am sure there are security reasons and international relationship reasons as to why we do not publish more of this, but once again, I think the terrorism war is serious enough to allow Bush to "level" with the public....thoughts?

I think it best to let this information come out from other sources. Anything Bush says or does against Clinton will fire up the Rat base and leave him open to charges of politicizing the war, etc. etc.

However, two books are currently out on Clinton's security failures, and little drips like this week after week are gradually seeping into the American consciousness. Plus, Clinton must be afraid of something...he has been awfully quiet lately.

Bush vehemently believes in courtesy and not attacking a prior officeholder by name. He also knows that this election coming up is already going to be divisive...throwing fuel on the fire won't help the country.

They are coming to Iraq now, because of the collapse of order.

Bosh. If Iraq was as calm as Sweden by now it wouldn't make a lick of difference to the terrorists. Like Afghanistan before it, they come to Iraq to fight and kill the Infidel who fights for the liberation of those whom they seek to oppress.

However, AQ and Iraq began working together after the first Gulf War.

No, they did not.

Hussein's sons mentioned this in their OWN STATE RUN NEWSPAPER some months before the war this year.

Look, Hussein's sons could claim that they have lunch with Elvis Presley every Tuesday but you should not take it at face value, even if it were printed black and white in "their OWN STATE RUN NEWSPAPER".

I have links to dozens of articles/books about this subject matter, but have come to understand there are some who do not want to believe in this linkage between the groups. Such is life.

Hey, majority of Americans believe that Iraqis were among the WTC bombers. Are you the part of this majority?

Ramzi Yousef entered the US on an Iraqi passport. You can find multiple references to this on Google.

Ramzi Yousef entered the US on an Iraqi passport.

It was a very clever disguise. Probably he wanted to turn the attention away from with his secret links with McVeigh co-conspirator Terry Nichols . Besides, Iraqi passport at that time was the best way to get easy entry to America.

Give me a break, Miss.

Gee, how did he get an Iraqi passport? Answer: THROUGH THE IRAQI GOVERMENT!

Go right ahead with your denial of a connection which is obvious to almost the entire nation. I have given you proof: you don't want to accept it.

Pbbbt!

Entire nation (97% in EVERY nation) give different answers to the IQ test that the 3% with IQ above 130. So? The truth is not democratic.

I have given you proof: you don't want to accept it. Pbbbt!

That he entered US on Iraqi passport?! PROOF for what?!

There are many others who are more than willing
to expose the Clintons. Bush doesn't have to get involved.

Proof of an Iraqi connection, which you denied.

Go ahead and follow those Rat type folks, who think there is no connection. I am done trying to talk to you, because if Saddam Hussein had been photographed passing money to Osama bin Laden, you would say the photo was doctored. You just refuse to believe anything that contradicts your mind-set.

Inderfurth: "I never saw any evidence in anything I was doing where there were any Iraqi connections,"

You: "Standard Clintonista lame attempt at deflecting damning evidence. Next, he will state that his diary lied to him."

Exactly! Inderfurth starts by saying the Taliban's claim "was not credible at the time". By which he apparently means there were no attempts -- to his knowledge. But how would he know?

And, to him, this is somehow evidence that there were no attempts. He prefers to stick his head in the sand and deny the more likely probability.

You nailed it. Typical word parsing to cover up.

Where do these POS learn to conducts themselves?

"Where do these POS learn to conduct themselves?"

One hesitates to blurt out "Ivy League colleges". But here is Inderfurth's biography. UNC, Fulbright scholar (Strathclyde), Princeton, State Department, UN, etc. It speaks for itself...

When lying is second nature and truth ever optional, you get creeps like this.

One wonders how GWB managed to avoid the taint. But I have the distinct impression that he was notably unimpressed by his fellow students and professors at Yale and Harvard. I'm thinking the Ivies are under-represented at the highest levels of his administration.

Great points, especially about the TRUTH, being a mere option.

Everytime I hear or read the slithering, shifting words of one of these reptiles, my baser nature comes to the fore, and rather than reason, I simply want to strangle.
