Drafting Our Daughters: Why do American men no longer have a godly affection for their daughters?

In January of this year, 2003, a bill was introduced both in the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives which would re-institute the military draft. This bill would not only allow the government to draft our sons however (as bad as that is itself), but it would also allow the government to draft our daughters into the military for two years.

Recently, I was listening to a Christian radio talk show discussing this bill. The question laid out to the Christian men was - what do you think about the government wanting to draft your daughters into the military for two years? I was appalled and amazed by the responses I heard. All of the callers except one thought it would be just fine for the government to take their daughters for two years. A few of the common responses given for such thinking were - “We live in different times now” and “The women wanted this equality, so it’s only fair” and “With all the government does for us, we should be willing to let them (our daughters) give two years of their life for them.”

As I listened to caller after caller, Christian man after Christian man, declare how willing they were to give up their daughters to the government for two years, I realized how far gone we are as a nation. When Christian men can speak this way about their daughters they have lost a godly affection for their daughters. When you hear this kind of perverse talk, American men have forgotten their God-given function as fathers.

What has made American men this way? Why do they no longer have a godly affection for their daughters? Why don’t they know how to function as fathers?

There are two main causes.

Number One: American men no longer have a godly affection for their daughters and have forgotten their roles as father because the way that Americans raise their children causes an unnatural separation between parent and child.

This is seen from an early age. Many men have their wives return to work after their maternal leave time expires after giving birth to their child. So the child is taken away from the parents and goes to daycare. When the child turns four or five, they are off to the government school. Again, the child is separated from the parents, and this continues to adulthood. Most men send their children away from them at church too. They don’t act as priests in their homes and instruct their children in the faith, rather they dump them off on the church with it’s host of kiddy programs to supposedly do the job.

This bill would allow the government to draft our daughters into the military for two years.

When the child gets older, most men allow their daughters to date. They send them away with a young man alone, rather than establishing some form of godly courtship, hence denying their role as protector. Finally, most men want their daughters out of the house once they turn eighteen. Most do so by sending their daughters away to the university.

This is how most American men raise their children and rule their homes. This is how most Christian men raise their children and rule their homes. My point is that this causes an unnatural separation between parent and child. Because of the separation which has been occurring since a young age and throughout the child’s life, it is easy for a man to say - “With all the government does for us, of course I’m willing to let them have my daughter for two years.” It’s easy because he’s already been separated from her all his life!

Number Two: American men no longer have a godly affection for their daughters and have forgotten their roles as father because the State has become father.

Men are to be providers, protectors, and priests to their homes. Most men no longer know or exercise these roles as father because the State has assumed the role of father. Herbert Schlossberg, in his book Idols for Destruction, best defines my assertion here. Schlossberg states:

Rulers have ever been tempted to play the role of father to their people. The father is the symbol not only of authority but also of provision. “Our Father who art in heaven...Give us this day our daily bread” (Mt.6:9,11). Looking to the State for sustenance is a cultic act [an act of worship]; we learn to expect food from parents, and when we regard the State as the source of physical provision we render to it the obeisance of idolatry. The crowds who had fed on the multiplied loaves and fishes were ready to receive Christ as their ruler, not because of who He was but because of the provision. John Howard Yoder has rightly interpreted that scene: “The distribution of the bread moved the crowd to acclaim Jesus as the new Moses, the provider, the Welfare King whom they had been waiting for.”

This statement by Schlossberg encapsulates what I mean when I say the State has become father. Men no longer know what it means to be men or fathers anymore because the State has become father. They’re still dependent little boys who’ve never grown up. All is taken care of for them. They’ve never learned what responsibility means because the State takes care of every desire, whim and need. Men have a duty as fathers to be providers, protectors, and priests to their homes,

and the State wants to take that out of men’s hands and assume the roles of father.

Schlossberg goes on to state:
The paternal State not only feeds its children, but nurtures, educates, comforts, and disciplines them, providing all they need for their security. Once we sink to that level, as C.S. Lewis says, there is no point in telling state officials to mind their own business. “Our lives are their business.” The paternalism of the State is that of a bad parent who wants his children dependent on him forever. That is an evil impulse. The good parent prepares his children for independence, trains them to make responsible decisions, knows that he harms them by not helping them to break loose. The paternal State thrives on dependency. When the dependents free themselves, it loses power. It is, therefore, parasitic on the very persons whom it turns into parasites. Thus, the State and its dependents march symbiotically to destruction.

The tyrant Diocletian, Emperor of Rome, in 301 A.D., declared the State to be “the watchful parents of the whole human race.” The State wanting to take our daughters away and draft them into the military is the ultimate expression and evidence that the State believes it is father, and has assumed the role of father.

When Christian men allow the State to get away with this, they have abrogated their God-given duty and roles as fathers.

If we need qualified people, spread the burden around, run a deficit, and offer "huge" recruiting bonuses (e.g., no income tax for the rest of your life).

That reward for exemplary service would provide another public benefit -- it would salt the population with examples of just how much better off an average middle-class person could be if government were rolled back to its proper size.

I'm opposed to the draft (I was opposed when I was eligible, so it's only fair that I oppose it now), but if it were reinstated, there are some decent reasons for including women.

First of all, if you draft women and have them working in domestic support positions, that frees up more volunteers for the front. Secondly, women have fought long and hard to receive recognition as comparably valuable citizens. Including them in the draft would not be "payback" for the men that opposed that movement, but rather acknowledgement that women are just as crucial to the existence of this country as anyone else. To ask for an exemption would be to admit that equality is a principle enforceable only if it effects a positive result on women.

That said, I am one hundred percent against women in combat roles. Now or in the future.

A refugee from the Muslim Middle East thinks he has discovered Islam's 20-point plan for conquering the United States by 2020 – a plan revealed in the latest issue of Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

Anis Shorrosh, author of ''Islam Revealed'' and ''The True Furqan,'' is a Christian Arab-American who emigrated from Arab-controlled Jerusalem in January 1967.

''The following is my analysis of Islamic invasion of America, the agenda of Islamists and visible methods to take over America by the year 2020,'' Shorrosh says. ''Will Americans continue to sleep through this invasion as they did when we were attacked on 9/11?''

1. Terminate America's freedom of speech by replacing it with statewide and nationwide hate-crime bills.

2. Wage a war of words using black leaders like Louis Farrakhan, Rev. Jesse Jackson and other visible religious personalities who promote Islam as the religion of African-Americans while insisting Christianity is for whites only. What they fail to tell African-Americans is that it was Arab Muslims who captured them and sold them as slaves. In fact, the Arabic word for black and slave is the same, ''Abed.''

3. Engage the American public in dialogues, discussions, debates in colleges, universities, public libraries, radio, TV, churches and mosques on the virtues of Islam. Proclaim how it is historically another religion like Judaism and Christianity with the same monotheistic faith.

4. Nominate Muslim sympathizers to political office to bring about favorable legislation toward Islam and support potential sympathizers by block voting.

5. Take control of as much of Hollywood, the press, TV, radio and the Internet as possible by buying the related corporations or a controlling stock.

6. Yield to the fear of the imminent shut-off of the lifeblood of America – black gold. America’s economy depends on oil and 41 percent of it comes from the Middle East.

7. Yell ''foul, out-of-context, personal interpretation, hate crime, Zionist, un- American, inaccurate interpretation of the Quran'' anytime Islam is criticized or the Quran is analyzed in the public arena.

8. Encourage Muslims to penetrate the White House, specifically with Islamists who can articulate a marvelous and peaceful picture of Islam. Acquire government positions and get membership in local school boards. Train Muslims as medical doctors to dominate the medical field, research and pharmaceutical companies. (Ever notice how numerous Muslim doctors in America are, when their countries need them more desperately than America?) Take over the computer industry. Establish Middle Eastern restaurants throughout the U.S. to connect planners of Islamization in a discreet way.

9. Accelerate Islamic demographic growth via:

• Massive immigration (100,000 annually since 1961).

• Use no birth control whatsoever – every baby of Muslim parents is automatically a Muslim and cannot choose another religion later.

• Muslim men must marry American women and Islamize them (10,000 annually). Then divorce them and remarry every five years – since one can't legally marry four at one time. This is a legal solution in America.

• Convert angry, alienated black inmates and turn them into militants (so far 2,000 released inmates have joined al-Qaida worldwide). Only a few ''sleeper cells'' have been captured in Afghanistan and on American soil.

10. Reading, writing, arithmetic and research through the American educational system, mosques and student centers (now 1,500) should be sprinkled with dislike of Jews, evangelical Christians and democracy. There are currently 300 exclusively Muslim schools in the U.S. which teach loyalty to the Quran, not the U.S. Constitution. In January of 2002, Saudi Arabia’s Embassy in Washington mailed 4,500 packets of the Quran and videos promoting Islam to America's high schools – free of charge. Saudi Arabia would not allow the U.S. to reciprocate.

11. Provide very sizeable monetary Muslim grants to colleges and universities in America to establish ''Centers for Islamic studies'' with Muslim directors to promote Islam in higher-education institutions.

12. Let the entire world know through propaganda, speeches, seminars, local and national media that terrorists have hijacked Islam, when in truth, Islam hijacked the terrorists.

13. Appeal to the historically compassionate and sensitive Americans for sympathy and tolerance towards Muslims in America who are portrayed as mainly immigrants from oppressed countries.

14. Nullify America's sense of security by manipulating the intelligence community with misinformation. Periodically terrorize Americans with reports of impending attacks on bridges, tunnels, water supplies, airports, apartment buildings and malls.

15. Form riots and demonstrations in the prison system demanding Islamic Sharia as the way of life, not America's justice system.

16. Open numerous charities throughout the U.S., but use the funds to support Islamic terrorism with American dollars.

17. Raise interest in Islam on America's campuses by insisting freshman take at least one course on Islam.

18. Unify the numerous Muslim lobbies in Washington, mosques, Islamic student centers, educational organizations, magazines and papers by Internet and an annual convention to coordinate plans, propagate the faith and engender news in the media.

19. Send intimidating messages and messengers to the outspoken individuals who are critical of Islam and seek to eliminate them by hook or crook.

20. Applaud Muslims as loyal citizens of the U.S. by spotlighting their voting record as the highest percentage of all minority and ethic groups in America.

As a Christian father I think it is an outstanding idea. I am in favor of universal service for all eighteen year olds. Two years serving our nation seems a very small price to pay for a life time of living in America.

Here's a spinoff thought (not connected with drafting women, but about how screwed up parent+child relationships are now):

I heard on (gack!) NPR (Forgive me , it's the only radio station I can hear out in the woods) that more and more children - as young as 2 years old - are being diagnosed with "mental illness". Everything from the gamut of ADHD and ADD to schizophrenia and depression. And the treatment? Why, drugs, of COURSE! And the genius doctors figure that 10% of kids have serious mental problems. NOT A SINGLE reason was given why. In fact, the news/opinion piece said that the reason they are finding out so many kids "have mental illness" is because so many are being raised in day care, so the "professional care takers" are noticing that the kids are nuts.

One kid was convinced he was Superman and kept trying to jump out of windows, cars, etc. NOT ONE MENTION that maybe the kid was stuck in front of the blue altar too much! Or at day care too much! Or didn't interact with his parents enough (if he was fortunate enough to have a mother and a father!)

So the conclusion was that kids need drugs, being mentally ill at 2 or 8 years old is a normal thing, and that daycare for infants is a good thing.

To me this is crystal clear evidence (as if I needed any more) of the complete breakdown of the natural family, and the civilization which is dependent on stable natural families.

Primarily the physical differences. However, I also believe that including women in combat units would have a definite impact on the dynamics of the units themselves. I'm sure we could figure out a way to train our soldiers to ignore gender, but would we want to? What would the long term impact of that philosophy be on our fighting forces?

If any situation becomes serious enough to institute a draft then our country is in big trouble.

We NEED women to stay here and make babies to replace the thousands who will die in a major conflict. If not from political or religious origin, it is a basic need of human survival. Kill the men and women of a certain age group in war and we are doomed.

As a father of 3 girls and one son, I am pround of my oldest, a daughter who just enlisted in the Army ROTC. I do know the difference between sons and daughters, but think it interesting that so many on this thread would use some of the same arguments used by the Taliban to keep women in their place. Not all progress is bad.
