Media Muzzled On Iraq - But By Whom?
Accuracy In Media (AIM) ^ | September 26, 2003 | Notra Trulock

Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s senior foreign correspondent, thinks that journalists censored themselves during the war in Iraq. She told CNBC’s Tina Brown that "the media was muzzled" and "intimidated" and that a "climate of fear and self-censorship" inhibited coverage of the war. The culprits: the Bush administration and its "foot soldiers at Fox News." (Ironically, one media watchdog has declared CBS the "most pro-war" in its coverage.) But when challenged to cite a story that she was prevented from reporting, she came up short. She could only point to a "question of tone." "It’s really a question of really asking the question," implying that this "climate of fear" stopped reporters from doing their jobs.

As a correspondent for CNN, Amanpour should know about how intimidation shapes stories out of places like Baghdad. Her boss, CNN chief news executive Eason Jordan, admitted earlier this year that his network had been withholding the truth about the Iraqi regime for years. In the New York Times, he confessed that his network didn’t report all the "awful things" it learned about life under Saddam Hussein. His reason: CNN feared that by doing so it would jeopardize the lives of Iraqis working for the network’s Baghdad bureau. But he also admitted that CNN was afraid that Iraq’s information ministry would shut down that bureau and cut off CNN’s access to Iraqi "newsmakers."

Christiane Amanpour is a shill for Muslim terrorists. One of the first and one of the shrillest.

She came up short on a few brain cells, too. Isn't this the ditz that was running around Pakistan disquised as a pirate?

I just got a forwarded email from an Army major in Germany, who I knew when we were kids. He's talking with a lot of folks who have just come out of Iraq. It was forwarded to me by his dad, who is a retired colonel, and was one of my dad's contemporaries in the Army.
I guess I am tired of TV and other media showing what they want to show. I see so much that I can't tell about - what the TV does not show in a deliberate attempt to slant the picture. This has happened before if you look at history, and it is happening again.

I have talked to soldiers who just came back - they are proud of what they are doing to liberate Iraq. They know it will take time. They knew they would be there for 1 year tours. They were told by the military leaders While the enemies of freedom are clever, developing new tactics, we have seen American and British (they are standing beside us - this first picture is of a Brit) ingenuity overmatch the enemy's capability. We are adapting and overcoming on a daily basis.

Estimates by soldiers I have talked to are that 80-90% of the Iraqi's are glad we are there. In the Army, the leaders have a saying - We spend 90% of our time taking care of 10% of our troops - the problem children.

Yes it is dangerous work, but our troops all understand that and we go forward, day after day.

CNN Europe always starts its news clips w/ an anti-Coalition or anti-American comment to set the tone of the article and then makes an effort to act neutral - but it is too late as the tone is set at the beginning. SO many people here are tainted by these comments.

Everything Christiana Amanpur says is suspect. I have talked to people who were with her and saw the "sensationalization" she added to her stories so they would sound better. And yet she is the lead reporter on CNN Europe.

So I have sent this on to you w/ my comments.
He had attached a bunch of pics like we see regularly in Diogenesis' "Gotta See This" posts and such.

Makes you wonder what her story is...

At least Fisk has an excuse for being unbalanced (mentally and in the journalistic sense).

Christiane Amanpour is a shill for Muslim terrorists. One of the first and one of the shrillest.

As I recall, the reaction from a FoxNews journalist when Amanpour first made these accusations was:

"It is better to be a foot soldier for Bush than a spokeswoman for al Qaeda."

Makes you wonder what her story is...

Like Arianna, she simply doesn't feel she's getting enough airtime herself so she is making it happen.
