Next week, actresses who have worked with Arnold will come forward with sexual harrassment and possibly rape charges against Arnold.

As Recall Vote Nears, Davis Goes on Offensive
New York Times ^ | September 28, 2003 | DEAN E. MURPHY
Posted on 09/28/2003 4:42 AM PDT by calcowgirl
SACRAMENTO, Sept. 26 Senator Dianne Feinstein was asked last month why she supported Gov. Gray Davis in his recall fight, when a decade ago Mr. Davis compared her to the jailed tax evader Leona Helmsley in a widely criticized campaign commercial.
"Lesson learned," Senator Feinstein said of Mr. Davis on the NBC News program "Meet the Press." Pressed further, she added: "I hope so. I believe so."
Ms. Feinstein, who defeated Mr. Davis in the 1992 Democratic Senate primary, now speaks confidently of him as a changed man, someone who has seen the error of his ways both as a candidate and as governor. But with the Oct. 7 recall election just around the corner, this new Mr. Davis is being put to the test, with nothing less than his political future hanging in the balance.
Trailing in the polls with time running short, the Davis campaign has shifted tactics, making Arnold Schwarzenegger, the leading Republican on the recall ballot, its target. Mr. Davis's challenge on Friday to debate Mr. Schwarzenegger, and a new television commercial raising doubts about the actor-turned-politician's competence to run the state, are telltale marks of the new aggressiveness.
"Politicians are either on offense or defense," one Davis adviser said, "and we have moved to offense."
The strategy is intended to rally the Democratic faithful around Mr. Davis and raise doubts among undecided voters about Mr. Schwarzenegger, who public opinion polls show is locked in a neck-and-neck battle with Lt. Gov. Cruz M. Bustamante, a Democrat, to succeed Mr. Davis should he lose the recall vote.
The unanswered question is whether Mr. Davis can take on Mr. Schwarzenegger without resorting to what many Californians regard as his natural political reflex an unseemly knack for the underhanded and thereby undoing the progress that Senator Feinstein and others insist he has made in winning back many voters.
"People's perceptions are that he is a nasty man who fights dirty," said Barbara O'Connor, director of the Institute for the Study of Politics and Media at California State University at Sacramento...

Doesn't matter. Gov. davis is running against recall, not Arnold. Anything negative davis forwards will only reinforce those against him.

Ha! This one's a piece of cake. Following the standard Mulholland modus operandi, the Big Smear on Arnold will come during the period of Thursday, October 2 and Friday, October 3, 2003. Dirty Bob always lays on his best smears on the pre-election weekend so that the smearee doesn't have a chance of responding before the voters go to the polls.

[California Attorney General] Lockyer: [Governor] Davis must cease "puke politics"
Dan Weintraub weblog ^ | Aug 1, 2003 | Dan Weintraub
Posted on 08/01/2003 6:19 AM PDT by John Jorsett
In the most explosive comments yet aimed at Davis by a fellow Democrat, Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer tells the Sacramento Bee that prominent Democrats will leave Davis for Riordan if the governor runs another of his famous negative campaigns.
"If they do the trashy campaign on Dick Riordan ... I think there are going to be prominent Democrats that will defect and just say, 'We're tired of that puke politics. Don't you dare do it again or we're just going to help pull the plug.' There is a growing list of prominent Democrats that, if that's how it evolves, are going to jump ship."
Lockyer wouldnt say if he would be among them. A couple of thoughts: This makes Gray look not only bad, but small. To have a junior member of the executive branch, in an on-the-record interview, issue an ultimatum to the governor about how to campaign makes it utterly clear to voters that Davis simply cannot lead this state. As for the substance of Lockyers threat, consider this:

More sex and harrassment scandals, probably. Also the nude pictures that Drudge pushed a while ago still haven't gained much publicity.
Presumably this will be handled like the Bush DUI splash--at the last minute, in a coordinated media attack.

The ugly attacks will start this week, probably tomorrow.
Arnie will be ripped for everything from the Lindbergh kidnapping to the Grayouts in Kalifornia.
Arnie better have some ads in the can to remind voters what the recall is all about, the budget, and why he(really anybody) can do a better job than Grayout.
To: RonDog
Cybill Shephard will say that Arnold kissed her when she was 16! No wait, that was Gray Davis.
To: RonDog
The black woman that Arnold said he "gang banged" in the Oui interview will come forward to claim she was raped.
If she doesn't exist, Bob Mulholland will make her up.

When Arnold last considered a run at Governor there were women who came forward and accused him in essence of sexual battery. They will be back (if they have not already been dissuaded otherwise).

I've heard from some Assembly staffers I know on this one. All they could tell me was that it WOULD work. No effort to discount the facts in advance will change them.
The "my Party right or wrong" people may not be feeling so cocky by mid next week.
Call it a nuclear-powered slime machine.
When I saw how Arnold was unnecessarily and foolishly attacking his own Party base, I was at first confused. It seemed like he didn't really want the job. As I learned more about the internal workings at GOP National, a rational theory became more obvious: that Arnold was only put up as a diversion intended to take a dive at the last second and kill the recall (which IS what Karl Rove wants).
You may not like that theory, but it fits the facts better than any other explanaiton I have seen. The one thing Rove didn't want was a conservative. The history of Parsky and Sundheim toward Tom, the way that "moderates" in the GOP treated Schundler, Simon, and Salmon prior to this election would seem to confirm that.

WHEN will the Gray Davis "Slime Machine" attack? WHERE is Arnold vulnerable? HOW can we stop them?
October 4th, 5th, or 6th. I won't post where Arnold is vulnerable, because my information and sources are good. If the stories I'm aware of become public knowledge, I'll confirm. You can't stop this, now that Arnold is on top in the polls. The only remaining obstacle to the slime is McClintock's ongoing candidacy.

Next week, actresses who have worked with Arnold will come forward with sexual harrassment and possibly rape charges against Arnold. Two alleged "victims" (Jamie Lee Curtis and Linda Hamilton) have denied that this sort of thing happened--which has not deterred the Tombots from repeating the charges over and over.

Undropped Shoe Reminder: The
L.A. Times has not yet published the results of its big investigation of Arnold Schwarzenegger's personal behavior (unless
this mostly favorable piece is all we're going to get). Is the
Times saving it for the last minute, the better to really damage the actor's chances (think Bush and DUI)? Is the story going through an arduous bureaucratic editing process filled with contentious sourcing debates? Or is that
Times uncomfortable with the whole idea--so that the fruits of its reporting will never see the light of day? ... We won't know for a week or so. Until then, just in case Schwarzenegger appears to be pulling ahead, it's worth remembering that it aint' over until the ladies sing, or don't sing, or we find out that there was nothing to sing about. ...[
What do you expect?-ed. A non-fatal story. I've said it before: The happiest day in a politician's life is when he learns he's being investigated by the
L.A. Times.] ...
Rumor: Is next Thursday (10/2) Shoe Day? Seems a little late to me. ..
