YOU may not feel that providing infrastructure is one of the most important functions of state government, but I do. When CA is spending under 1/2%, and the politicians are not admonished in some way to do so, then it is no wonder jobs are leaving that state. It was not long ago that CA was spending about 20% on that.

It appears from your list that those on it are not "labor unions" in general, but are those who are interested in jobs for CA. Both "RINO-Arnie" and "McKlintock" support #53 - (I have no dog in this fight - I would like to see CA become a viable state again.) In contrast, the "no on 53" folks are indeed heavily (teachers & other welfare agent) union associated.

I'm sorry you were duped by the "Busta & 53" ad campaign, as you said in post 612.

Truth sometimes hurts, I know, but sometimes it is best to simply state you were duped, than to keep defending a mistake.

would a spoiled ballot with both chads punched actually be counted in both columns? Of course it wouldn't change the vote totals by doing so? Or would it count as a non vote, and not part of the 50% +1.

Has this issue ever been addressed? If the law isn't specific, the courts will address it. If the margin of victory or defeat in the recall is less than the amount of ballots spoiled on just the 1st question alone, somebody will take this to court unless the law is specific here.

Orange County is using optical scanner for this election. March we will be using something called an e-slate machine. I saw one in July and IMO they s**k. If you get easily confused by electronic gadgets, you will be confused by the screen.

They recognize the writing on the wall. They know the only way they can win this is to steal it in the courts (i.e., pushing for liberal judges who don't give a sh*t about the law).

I think they know they will ultimately lose, but they want to push it till it has to be apealed to the US Supreme Court for a decision.
Then in '04, the national Dems will be screaming about Republicans "Stealing Elections" in Florida and California.

It will be a very effective smear.

Hardly anyone was at the polling place at 10:30 AM when my husband and I got there, but it's the third time in as many elections that the location has been changed and there was a sparsity of the usual signs indicating an election was being held anywhere around, not to mention the total lack of convenient parking...hmmm...

Then I got inside, and by some clerical error I had been eliminated from the registration. I had to vote provisionally, which ticked me off exceedingly, because I haven't moved in years and have voted many times from this address. Still managed to vote to boot Mr. Roberts' Evil Twin out and Arnie in.

McC is a good man, and I hope he either gets a high position in The Governator's administration or else runs against Feinstein or Boxer. I'd work for his campaign under those circumstances.

Stay aware of voter fraud techniques which are sure to be employed by the Democrats using the recently-passed Illegal-License law.

I imagine hundreds of women with a Driver License saying "Maria Hernandez" will be going from poll to poll to poll to take the place of the perhaps 20,000 women with that name in California who otherwise would not bother to vote.

No poll volunteer would turn someone away with such an ID. The fraud using this technique could be on a MASSIVE SCALE...Do NOT underestimate this.

In addition, I almost guarantee that a Judge citing "polling problems" will order the polls in "minority" areas to stay open an extra 1-2 hrs to get all these Marias and Joses into the polls...just as they did against Ashcroft in St Louis in 2000.

Understood -- still looking for authoritative source for that. A ballot with neither "YES" nor "NO" votes does not represent a voter, for the purposes of Q1. The "non-voted" ballots are not considered in the recall question.

Assuming that's the case, then the "Yes" and "No" advocates have the same risk of overlooking Q1, and neither side of that issue has an inherent advantage or disadvantage based on such oversight.

California code here:

11382. No vote cast in the recall election shall be counted for any candidate unless the voter also voted for or against the recall of the officer sought to be recalled.

So, if you mess up question 1, your vote doesn't count in question 2. You also are not considered part of the 50%+1

By my reading of this, those who today said they forgot to vote on question 1 have lost their candidate choice as well.

If the recall yes vote is 50%+1 then does the law require the replacement governor to get 50%+1 of the candidate votes or just a majority?

That code section was overturned by a court. A non-voted Yes/No may still cast a vote for a candidate. I have a link to the court citation somewhere above, on this thread.

For Davis to be recalled the YES must be over 50%.
