Katie in Attack Mode - Questions Arnold's Leadership, Envisions "Havoc" and Grope Lawsuits
The Today Show

Posted on 10/08/2003 4:31:31 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

The morning after a historic election, it's traditional for the media to lead their coverage with an analysis of what led to the winning candidate's victory, and typically offer some softbal, warm and fuzzy interviews with the winning team.

But as far as The Today Show's Katie Couric is concerned, there's no time for a honeymoon, as she wasted no time in attack Arnold and painting a grim picture for his political future.

Couric's guest was CA Congressman and Arnold transition chairman David Dreier.

Again, the typical morning-after question would have been along the lines of "how does it feel?" or "how did Arnold do it?", or if you're looking to be a bit more substantive "what is Arnold's #1 priority?"

Instead, the first words out of Courics' mouth "polls show that 2/3 of the people feel Arnold didn't adequately explain his plans. What does that say about his leadership or his ability to communicate with the people?"

Next: "Arnold must present a budget by January 10th. How can he do it without cutting programs or raising taxes?"

And of course Katie hates the idea of letting taxpayers keep more of their money: "Wouldn't eliminating the recent tripling of the car tax wreak havoc?"

Next question: "When does he propose to address the groping allegations? Many of the women have retained high-powered lawyers. How concerned about lawsuits, how big a distratcion will that be?

For the embittered Couric, partisan Democratic politics never take a day off.

And is it just me, or does she look awful this morning? And her cohorts, too? I kept looking for black crepe to be hung all over the set. Bwah hah hah hah hah.

In my excitement this morning, a few typos crept into my report. My apologies.

Twice Katie tried to bring up cutting programs and raising taxes in order to balance the budget. The fact that she thinks this is a bad thing is stunning. If the budget MUST be balanced, then there will have to be cuts. Reality must be hard for her and other elitists to deal with.

Katie is just blue that she didn't get groped by Arnold.

She was looking pretty rugged. In fairness, Katie is currently in California, and was probably up all night, following the results then preparing for the show that airs at 4 AM CA time.

Right! Katie became restless when Dreier explained that Arnold has for some time been saying that his approach will be to conduct an audit of the budget to determine how savings can be made. That wasn't good enough for Katie: "but won't it be necessary to cut programs or raise taxes?", she almost yelled.

I do it with a combination of masochism and the belief that it's useful to keep an eye on the liberal media and report back to my fellow FReepers.

Keeping a supply of Nexium handy doesn't hurt either!

And how about Katie's dismay at the prospect of the car tax being axed? You can afford the car tax, sweetie, but a lot of the folks you purport to be so concerned for CAN'T. Wench.

I keep my blood pressure in check by never watching the networks. Laura Ingraham is on Imus (MSNBC) right now. The only place to be in the morning.

I'll say it again, and I will say it until I am blue in the face.

Why is it that these wealthy liberal elitists do not quibble over tax increases that they can afford, when the typical middle-class American family is being squeezed from the right and the left, and pinching pennies?

If these liberals love these pet projects so very much, why don't they support charities that could offer the same services?

The liberals' idea of compassion through taxation leaves me confused and angry. I'll take compassionate conservatism any day of the week, over the alternative that they offer.
