TOM MCCLINTOCK DAILY EDITION - 10/8/03 - GOING DARK!

Posted on 10/08/2003 7:10:21 AM PDT by Rabid Dog

As many of you know this has been a local, regional, national news and views thread. I want to thank all of you that have respected its intent. When I first started this thead, I was on the fence between Arnold and Tom. Within a week, it became clear that Tom was the man I could respect and support.

Within a month it became clear that the CA G.O.P. was not an organization I could respect and support and so I have switched parties and will be changing my screen name to Rabid Dog.

Tomorrow I am entering Freeper Detox and will be drying out for a week or so but am looking foward to discussing the changes in California under the leadership of our new governor - ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER!!

Well, I have an idea - how about staying in the party and working to get it back on track. All abandoning it will do is make it even worse.

Nothing in life is easy, man.

I hear ya. I'm actually excited about getting back to my personal life tonight, its been a while since this populism first grabbed me on Feb 18th. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/846240/posts and the Out Of State Know It Alls said it couldn't be done. (pay special attention to #9, call it foreshadowing...kinda creepy) It was fun seeing all the DNC interviewed on the networks...suffering. They overplayed hand, while Bush is not really involved at all. I hope for his sake he doesn't change that policy because things aren't going to get any better than yesterday here.

Within a month it became clear that the CA G.O.P. was not an organization I could respect and support and so I have switched parties and will be changing my screen name to Rabid Dog.

Well Dog... I can relate. If someone would have asked me what I consider myself during the war, or any time before, I probably would have used the terms "Rabid Republican" myself. But this election, with the perfect Conservative candidate being sold out, attacked, threatened, marginalized, and hated-----things certainly have changed. I'm a Conservative again, not a Republican. History is repeated itself here you know---many of the large number of Independents in CA are disaffected Republicans from the past 2 GOP Govs...On the bright side, it feels really good not having to rationalize for the laundry list of GOP hypocracies though! I'll sleep alittle easier at night not going to bat for those politicians.

Well, I'm not going to be mean to the (R)nold Groupies at this point, it serves no purpose now. I can't say though that I am any less certain of his abject failure, but that won't be for a long time, and I'll give him a shot. I know you don't like pictures in this thread, but I consider it relevant...

"Decline to State"

Mrs. Wasp and I went from the polling place last November, directly across the street to the Post Office and changed our registration after voting for Simon.

When I found out that approximately 2.5 million Repubs didn't even vote and left Davis with us as Gumby the Governor, I really felt justified.

It's no wonder we get "Government by Whim," when both of the major Parties disregard common sense and constitutional constraints on government!!!

It's kind of like our public education system in California - it needs to go bust before it's going to get better.

The CA G.O.P. made some decisions and as in most decisions, there are consequences - fallout being one of them.

I'm sure the number of people leaving will be more than compensated by the number of "more moderate" people joining them.

I have lived and voted in California for the last 25 years and I have to say - I don't think they have done a good job. I want a divorce!

However I am ready to support the Governator now that he is in by such a large mandate.

I am a Californian, I voted for McClintock and I agree with you. The more public support a governor has, the less "special interest" support he needs. For those of us on the starboard side of the party, its time to move amidships. However that does not mean it won't hurt to throw an Arnold bed-wetter overboard once in a while. Keeps the panic down and helps set a true course when the wind is from port.

What's really amusing about your post is that if Arnold does raise taxes, renege on the Driver License issue, etc. - you will be hard pressed to find anyone that will admit he that voted for him. Most will claim they voted for Tom. JimR. should run a poll about a year or so from now.

I think Tom has garnered a lot of positive spin. If he runs against Barbara Boxer, I think he will have a good shot.

I think Tom has shot himself in the foot...he will now be hanging on the edge of the party like a Buchanan.

Why did he take the cheap shots at Arnold towards the end of the campaign? Does he expect the Governor to support him in his race against Boxer? LOL. How can he win a statewide election by ripping everyone except the 15-20% of Californians who identify as conservatives. Great jop of party building Tom. I'm a conservative that WON'T support McClintock and I can see anywhere close to a majority of people voting for him in the real world. Give me a conservative that can win, that shows political judgement, that shows leadership. We have enough spoilers!

Your guy could be the greatest guy in the world, but the GOP made it pretty clear who they supported, and why.

When a candidate is seeking votes--the object is to win. You know that. Our party needed to win this campaign, and they knew Arnold could deliver. We do NOT need someone who would act as a lightning rod for liberals to unite against. If Schwarzenegger is smart, he'll use his popularity with the people now to be effective. I don't believe that McClintock was perceived as someone who could do that, right now

I hope you stick with the GOP, too. Walking away will not anyone.

Some of the comments posted by rabid dems this morning:

"I can't believe people in CA are so stupid! Idiots!"
"This is the end for the Demcratic party."
"People aren't angry enough! Pubs stole another election!"
"How can they call it already? There's supposed to be weeks of recounts and injunctions."
"I'd like to serve Darryl Issa his t*******s sliced and fried in butter."
"They elected an actor, a Republican, in our most important state!"
"I'm beginning to think we're in the minority, that most of the peopie in the US are just stupid bleating sheep."

And my favorite, from our DNC pal Terry McAuliffe:

"The people are angry, frustrated and they took it out on Davis. They'll take it out on George Bush in 2004!"

I will boldly say it "before it was cool" like I did on Feb 18th. I will yell it from the mountain tops. When Dole lost, GOP Senators/Reps running against hated Demos lost, I remember always looking at them as rather pathetic and embarrassing. Last night I when Tom gave his speech, I was applauding. Must be because I actually voted FOR that man and his platform. I only hope that my kids could not only know so much about civic matters and fight against all the powers that be for that, but to conduct themselves with such class, dignity, and statesmanship.

I will always be his supporter, may God continue to bless Tom McClintock.

So sorry about your problems. But you left the party, the party didn't leave you.

We all want more conservative leadership in power, but the "I want it all now or NOTHING thinking" only guarantees you NOTHING.

It wasn't McClintock or his supporters that did the right thing for this state in this election at all, they were off in some fantasy land the whole time.
This state started to turn around without you and McTombots and the "reasonable people" from all parties (including conservative democrats)did the real work and made sure a Republican was elected over Bustamante.

Tombots abdicated their responsibilities in this election if they voted for Tom. That was form over substance and dangerous.

Tom himself made a statement by never dropping out which I interpret as:

"I Tom McClintock am the only one for this state or nobody else can win. If you won't back me, I won't leave to help the party and will attempt to spoil. If the party loses and Bustamante wins, that is probably good for me in 2006, so my interest are served anyway. I don't care about the Republican party, the people of California or it's future....but be sure to back me in the future campaigns, especially against Boxer, because I am that dam important and special"

Rabid, career politicians can't screw the people and then expect to be welcome back.
If a dog bites you when you pet it only the stupid try and pet that dog again the same way...I am not stupid and at most only the % that voted for Tom in this election could ever be that stupid again IMO!

Have a good day.
