The anti-Catholicism of the "National Catholic Reporter"

Posted on 01/28/2004 12:46:44 PM PST by heyheyhey

In my opinion, the NCR (different from the National Catholic Register and from the Catholic World Report) appears to be classic type of a wolf in sheep's clothing. It is the most anti-Catholic weekly publication that I know, and yet it continues pretending to be "Catholic." The evidence of NCR's anti-Catholic and anti-Christian agenda is somewhat camouflaged, so let it be dug up and brought to daylight in this thread.

- Why, and who cares? Under normal circumstances I couldn't care less, but very many American priests and religious read the NCR, and it has poisonously influenced a generation or two of priests. When we see the sorry state of affairs in our Church we should know, for our own protection, where the devil dwells. Many screwy things (most of all the disdain for the Teaching Magisterium) originated and/or have been, or continue to be, sponsored by the NCR.

There is only one FReeper, as far as I know, vigorously defending the NCR, so he is rare and dear - let's be respectful to him.

It was condemned by at least one Catholic Bishop

And it is read by countless other Catholic bishops, including many Cardinals at the Vatican.

If the NCR wasn't meeting a need, it would have gone out of business years ago.

And so would the pornography industry.

And so would the pornography industry.

And so would crack dealers.

Are Cardinals at the Vatican reading pornography?

Cardinals at the Vatican are reading the spiritual pornography aka the NCR? Who told you that?

Read the "Letters to the Editor." Also, many Cardinals will speak to John L. Allen, NCR's reporter in Rome, when they won't speak to anyone else.

If we get active and develop a strategy I'll bet we can put a big time crimp in those circulation numbers.

If an otherwise good bishop is presented with evidence of what his diocese is supporting with his advertising dollars then perhaps those dollars will dwindle way down.

Send copies of any employment ads that you find in the NCR to bishops who might respond to an outcry from the faithful.

Of course do NOT waste your postage on Hubbard, Clark, Mahoney, etal., prayerful public protests and bad publicity works best for them.

"As long as the Catholic editor carries the name Catholic, he can never forget that he is a teacher of Christ's revelation. What he writes necessarily touches on faith -- that gift of the Holy Spirit which 'we carry in earthen vessels' and by which we accept Christ, the word of God incarnate, and his revelation."

Amen. Thanks for the ping.

The ones reading the National anti-Catholic Reporter, maybe.

I wish more bishops would defend the faith the way this Bishop Helmsing did back in 1968!

Go ahead.

Catholic bishops advertise for diocesan positions in the NCR.

Workshops, conferences, and retreats are advertised in the NCR.

Cardinals (like George and McCarrick) write letters to the editor.

Better men than you have tried, and failed, to bring down the NCR.

Not I. The NCR is one of the only sources of fresh information out of the Vatican. The Wanderer is too cheap to put somebody in Rome, and, even if it did, all we'd see are 1000 word articles that didn't say anything.

Okay,we all have good minds, what are we going to do about this? See posts #107 and #109Here is proof positive of many things:The National unCatholic Reporter is unspeakably rotten and evil since it started AND good,Catholic Bishops have been totally disregarded, disobeyed and ignored by the NCR and their minions in the Amchurch.

Despite the fact that this information is 36 years old the state of the NCR (antiCatholic)has not changed one iota and the futility of good men in the hierarchy (Bishops,Cardinals and the Pope) speaking out while improving, still exists.

Maybe we could set a goal of getting this paper out of business by 2006? Two ideas that I would suggest is that everyone reading phx_rc's posts copy it and send it to their Bishop asking that they join with their brother Bishop, now deceased,in an act of collegiality, and ask them to request that all parishes and the chancery offeces in their diocese cancel subscriptions to it. There is not much that can be done about private subscribers but certainly no diocesan or parish monies should be used to support this rag.

The second thing we might try is to pray one decade of the rosary each day and dedicate it to Bishop Helmsing. We could pray for him if he is in Purgatory, that he be released so he can get upstairs and intercede for us. If he is already in heavn then we just ask him to intercede and get somebody upstairs to work on putting the NCR out of business or tell us what we can do.

Of course they do,some because they want their vile, evil, cunning plots broadcast to the their minions or the unsuspecting who actually believe that its a Catholic paper. Others because they hope that a little holy, sanity might trickle down to the fools who buy that rag.

You are saying that the NCR has merit because of John Allen's inside connections and the practical info on positions, retreats, etc. But even if that is so, are you defending the newspaper's promotion of heresy, as the good Bishop pointed out way back in 1968? And if the newspaper does advocate heresy, do we really want to have our diocesan chanceries staffed with people who read this magazine?

The NCR provides much more information than any other Catholic paper. I don't agree with everything in it, for sure, but it's an interesting paper.

Since it's independently owned, there's obviously lots of people who choose to subscribe.

Diocesan staffs can differentiate between truth and heresy, Unam.

I would like to think this is true, but I find it rather hard to believe with all the official Diocesan Ministries to Gays and Lesbians sprouting up all over, which do NOT preach the call to chastity but instead affirm sinful homosexual activity, "gay pride" and "coming out".

Thanks for the ping.

Nothing, and no one who wish to remain a catholic can justify this anti-Catholic pos NCR.

Any rationalization is simply poor excuse.
