Pope Offers Communion to Pro-Choice Politician in Italy

Melinda Henneberger: At an Environment 2004 party on Beacon Hill Monday evening I ran into Francesco Rutelli, the popular former mayor of Rome, and asked him about rumors that he, a pro-choice Catholic of the Italian left, had nonetheless received communion from Pope John Paul II himself.

"Oh yes, this is true,'' he said, and asked to be walked though the controversy in the American Catholic Church, where some bishops have suggested that pro-choice politicians like John Kerry should be denied communion. "This is very strange for me,'' Rutelli said, "that you cannot be a Christian and also uphold the law of your country.''

"So, this is politics, too?'' he asked of the bishops, wryly suggesting that perhaps these American prelates were too far from Rome—and too close to Washington.

Yes, like a dummy I had it perfectly backwards. Blair is the Protestant and his wife is the pro-death Catholic.

Thank you.

St.Chuck says:
My memory tells me that you are prolific in questioning the orthodoxy of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II

Again, I ask him to post some evidence to show his claims against me, or to withdraw them. Chuck, your snide personal attacks are getting tiresome. They are against the rules. Please stop. BTW, if you do have ANY evidence to support your claim post it. If I am in error, you are doing me an act of charity in so posting. If not, please publicly withdraw your claim, since you made it publicly.

actions speak louder then words:
In 1998, he gave communion, at a private Mass in the Vatican, to the late Rev. Sheila Brown, who had only shortly before been ordained an Anglican priestess and who, at that Mass, wore her "Roman" collar.
In 1999, he gave communion to several Lutheran bishops who were his guests during a mass in the pope's private chapel in the Vatican. (London Tablet)
Although I don't have the date he also gave communion to Tony Blair, whose wife is a pro-abort catholic.

Deeeeaaar narses,

Before your suspension I told you that I was not going to bother cutting and pasting your past posts. I apologize for the disappointment, but I haven't the time or interest in playing prosecutor to your defendent role. It would be boring.

Chuck, your snide personal attacks are getting tiresome.

I didn't make any. What offends you? What isn't true? That you are prolific or that you question the orthodoxy of the pope?

Look, I agree, it is tiresome. I'm sure nobody cares to read my petty little exchanges with you, and I'm not interested in pursueing a big dust up with you. I'm not Steve Hand, ya know.

Since you either cannot or willnot substantiate your slanders against me, at least be man enough to withdraw them, at least until you can or are willing to put up.

LOL, you are funny. The slander is the claim that I question the Pope. You know well that you are acting in a fashion designed to denigrate me. You are engaged in personal attacks. I have asked you many times to stop. I will no longer tolerate your attacks. You have this last opportunity to stop, or every lie you post about me, as you follow me around, will result in the abuse button being used. Get it?

The slander is the claim that I question the Pope.

So you don't question the orthodoxy of the pope?

I find it hard to believe some folks think you're a guy when you persist in pinging your entirely list to catfights like this.

Narses, sometimes I think there must be two or more of you writing under/over your name.Am I right? If I am,then let me add that I enjoy and learn from one of you much more than from the other.

I don't for a moment believe "The Life of Narses" consists entirely of dust-ups with Sinkspur and St. Chuck so ... no, I have not "studied" the life of Narses.
