I don't see a problem with this. If you want the download (it is nicely done) get it, if not ignore it.

Rather than dispute purgatory, which will get us into bible versions and canon arguments, let's just say to each his own. For Catholics, Anglo Catholics and few others, this is somewhat timely as All Souls approaches.

The Bible says exactly as much about purgatory as it does about:

• the Trinity
• what day of the week the Sabbath falls on
• how to number the Ten Commandments
• the idea that Scripture is the sole authority
• the idea that revelation ended with the death of the last apostle
• the canonical list of Old Testament books
• the canonical list of New Testament books
• the actual name of "the beloved disciple"
• the authors of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John or the book of Acts (those names are added to the manuscripts - they aren't found in the texts)
• the idea that God created the world from nothing
• the idea that faith alone saves

Of course, it helps if you have a complete Bible, but I doubt you do. You seem to be missing some books. That's the advantage of having 1 and 2 Maccabees. You see, Maccabees DOES tell us that God created the world from nothing, just as it tells us about purgatory.

Not a pretty sight - which is why we don't post stuff like that anymore. Let's discuss what we, as conservatives, have in common.

Pslam73, You took the first shot about asking about Purgatory in the Bible. So were you initially trying to start a flame war on this issue? If not why did you make the comment unless you were trolling.

As for the post of a outside link, I see a lot of that on FR and click on those I am interested in. Since this was posted under Religion, I don't know why you had an issue about it other than to start a flame war.

But when the individual decided to defend themself you play the victim.

Um, if there are other routes to salvation, (ie: praying someone into heaven who has already died), that means that something besides the death and Ressurection of Jesus Christ can save us.
If I do not accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour while on earth, can YOUR prayers give me salvation?.
As the thief was dying on the cross next to Jesus, he accepted Christ as his Saviour, and Jesus replied: "Today you will be with Me in Paradise."
Notice He said TODAY, not next year if enough prayers are said for you, or candles are lit for you - his faith in the Blood of Jesus was enough for that man's salvation.
"By faith you have been saved, and not by works, lest anyone should boast......."

Yeah, I noticed that after I had posted it - I should have worded that differently.
I know Roman Catholics who are Born-Again Christians, and I'm truly sorry for that lapse in my train-of-thought - thank you for pointing it out.

Glad to be of help! Let me know if you have any questions. Some RCIA programs are not as orthodox as they should be, and some RCIA instructors have trouble explaining the concepts. I have quite a bit of experience in explaining things, and I work hard at being orthodox.

Well, you see, our Protestant friend thought he was going to put little ol' me over a barrel with the Purgatory-Scripture crack, but he don't know who he's tangling with. :)

As you can see, he immediately dropped that line of commentary when I pointed out that most of his "sola scriptura" beliefs aren't. All of a sudden, he switched to deriding my credentials - fake Scriptural arguments suddenly transformed into ad hominem attack. I'm waiting to see what the next iteration will be. Protestants, like the Democrats they spawned, are quite amusing.

Please try to be logically consistent. Scripture says Christians are rendered part of the Body of Christ, with Christ as our head. It also says we are supposed to pray for everyone - not just those who are alive. Likewise, as Scripture points out, praying for the dead is a laudable thing and has a long tradition in Jewish faith. Since Christianity is just the completion of Judaism (we are grafted onto the Jews, for salvation comes from the Jews), the practice of praying for the dead is perfectly Scriptural. The power that imbues these prayers is precisely the power of an image of Christ who is rendered into an image of Christ by the Cross of Christ. Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and man, but we - by being rendered part of His Body - are thereby rendered co-mediators with Him. That means we can accomplish nothing on our own, but with Him, we can accomplish ALL THINGS. Now, part of ALL THINGS means that our prayers for those who have died and are oriented towards God, but still need to be perfected in order to enter heaven, are efficacious.
