At least he has no real power. President of the USCCB, there is no doctrinal power there and he still has no vote in the Curia.

Some bishops have stated that they will deny Eucharist to Catholic politicians who have supported abortion legislation. Eucharist is Gods gift to us, Gods presence among us. It is a most precious part of our Catholic heritage. I strongly oppose using Eucharist as a weapon. This is infuriating! It is such a twisted statement that I am appalled!

I had prayed it would be Archbishop Chaput, though I knew he was a long shot. It seems our bishops have a mighty long way to go . . .
To: Judith Anne
The thing is - his view on that matter is shared by plenty of other Bishops. THATS what has charge over the U.S. Church - and folks wonder why they are closing left and right.

There is clearly a de facto schism in the church, imho.

Yes, Pope St. Pius X called the infiltrators responsible "Modernists", he said they are the worst of the worst - sadly, they have over run today's Church along time ago and are only gaining in strength.

Spokane Bishop William Skylstad says his memory is cloudy about events in the 1970s involving a priest who was molesting children.

I didn't mean to sound so naive, I'm not. But I have become quite insulated here in our rural area, with our local parish and the Trappist Abbey nearby, and the news of this election is a reality check for me.

Would I sound like someone from DU if I start ranting and screaming about this election?
I am feeling more and more disgusted with the US Bishops everyday. Is it against their grain to elect someone who is even slightly acceptable to me?
To: NYer
Wow. This is like putting Buckner in as a defensive replacement.

Oh, I really wasn't assuming you to be naive, its just that the whole situation gets to me.

LOL Good one. There is a bright side to this...things are gradually getting better. It's just that our expectations have got a bit ahead of reality.

No kidding, I think George would have been a fantastic President. He is diplomatic, so I guess that is necessary for that position, but he is Orthodox and will bash heads when he has to. Not likely. He IS Orthodox but will NOT enforce his authority. He has allowed pro-abortionists like Al Sharpton to speak at our churches.

I've paid my $100 to FR. I'm poorer and sadder. If there's a good side, it's that 48% of the bishops recognize this guy's unfit for command.

I strongly oppose using Eucharist as a weapon. For me, a sure sign of left-leaning is the use of the word 'Eucharist' rather than 'the Eucharist'.
It is probably a correct usage, but is usually used by liberals. Eucharist as thanksgiving is different than 'The Eucharist' as in the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.
I'm just about fed up with the whole bunch.

Is it possible to get a list of how the vote went? Which bishops supported him ... like we really need to confirm what we already suspect :-)
