The Spirit of Vatican II: A Chronicle of Demise by Kenneth J. Wolfe
*But, yo hablo espanol!
New York Newsday reported hundreds gathered for an outdoor Mass presided over by Bishop William F. Murphy of the diocese of Rockville Centre Murphy addressed each ethnic segment of the congregation separately. Is that enough Latin? he joked at one point, after struggling through a few words of the long-defunct language.
*Another Novus Ordo clown
The Associated Press wrote about the Rev. John Vakulskas, the only member of the clergy with a permanent ministry to carnival workers in this country, according to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Father Vakulskas job is ecumenical. He wears a stole embroidered not only with a carousel horse and a Ferris wheel, but also with a Star of David.
*Speaking of freak shows
The Los Angeles Times looked at the growing schedule of memorial services as well as other events (that) are drawing Catholics and non-Catholics alike at L.A.s Taj Mahony. If the writing on the wall wasnt clear enough, the scene in the room certainly was. A Protestant was being eulogized by a Catholic in a nondenominational service inside Los Angeles most extravagant house of worship A memorial service for Los Angeles civic leader Ira Tellin, the son of an Orthodox rabbi, was held at the cathedral after his death in 2002 A rabbi, a Sikh, a Hindu swami and a member of the Bahai faith joined Mahony for memorial services marking the second anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in 2003.
*Thankfully JPIIs Vatican cannot vote
Lead sentence in a New York Times story from Vatican City on the U.S. presidential election: While many American Catholics oppose Senator John Kerry because he supports abortion rights, church officials and observers here say that if the people who run the Vatican could vote, they would be as divided as Americans are and might even tilt toward Mr. Kerry.
* but the Vatican did have representatives who could
Celebrating a specially arranged Mass for Mr. Kerry in Chillicothe, Ohio, the Rev. Lawrence Hummer, reported the New York Times, said the Church should pander to pro-abortion politicians and not ostracize them or treat them like lepers. How did the Novus Ordo presbyter deal with the heretical communicant? After the service, Father Hummer urged Mr. Kerry on. God bless you, he said. And win, will you?
*What Great Schism?
The Washington Post looked at Communion practices in America. Ruining a perfectly good opportunity to educate readers: Monsignor James P. Moroney, executive director of office of liturgy (sic) for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said the church generally does not condone the participation of Catholics in non-Catholic Communion, but he said its a matter of degree of theological difference and a decision to be made by the local bishop. If a Catholic goes to an Orthodox Church and receives Holy Communion, are we concerned with that? No, Moroney said.
*This French Guy is cool
Catholic News Service reported on a Novus Ordinarian at a Pontifical Council for Migrants and Travelers meeting: Father Guy Gilbert does not look like your ordinary priest: Sporting a star-studded, black leather motorcycle jacket and smoking rolled cigarettes to the stub, he seems more like the street kids he has been helping in Paris for the past 40 years. And that is precisely the point. At the beginning, dressing like this helped me enter into contact with young people. I will dress like this till the end of my days, said the priest.
*Priest implies murder and narcotics should be allowed
Dominican Father David Delich, of Saint Louis, defended legalized abortion in a letter published in the New York Times: The real issue is prudential: whether abortion should be criminalized, not whether it is wrong. A large part of the prison population in the United States is incarcerated because of violations of drug laws. Who would argue that drug use in the United States has subsided because of drug laws?
*Church attendance solution
In a story entitled Let us bark, the New York Post reported: A Catholic church has started holding Mass for pets in Cologne, Germany with hundreds of people bringing their dogs, cats, rabbits and lizards. Veterinarian Wilfried Brach-Virnich, who came up with the idea, said there was no reason why pets should not be prepared for the afterlife, because its got to be every animal lovers wish for a paradise that includes humans and animals.
*Probability these ladies were wearing habits: zero
A closing gem from Catholic News Service: German Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger should resign as head of the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and be replaced by a feminist woman, said an organization representing 500 U.S. women religious. The National Coalition of American Nuns added that the Vatican should grant greater decision-making power to women, including participation in the election of popes.
It's true this community seems fairly devout. But it uses the 1970 missal--which tells me all I need to know about its spirituality--that it is a hybrid of Catholic and Protestant theologies, similar to that of EWTN's Mother Angelica. It reminds me of the Protestant sects which still have religious orders of nuns and seem in every way Catholic--except in how they worship. This is a big "except", however. In fact, it is crucial, since such worship is profoundly unCatholic, contradicting Trent and offering a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving only--precisely in the Protestant manner. I don't blame these good women for this. It's not their fault. This is the best they can do in the present climate which is hostile to authentic Catholic worship. But anyone who was truly raised to be sensitive to the Catholic faith as it has been perennially taught could not possibly join such a community.
You need to be better informed. The Council of Trent explicitly prohibited a Mass that was merely a sacrament of praise and thanksgiving. The Novus Ordo is in violation of Trent--and so are these good sisters. You may be impressed by their piety, but they are not attending a Catholic Mass nevertheless. That doesn't make them bad--it makes them ignorant. In fact, what they seem to be doing by their emphasis on the adoration of the Holy Eucharist is compensate for the deficiencies of the New Mass--much as Mother Angelica's congregation does.
Insofar as these nuns are traditionalist, they are Catholic. Insofar as they follow the New Order, their Catholicism is compromised--as is yours. Fortunately, they have instinctively included measures to limit the damage--by supplying devotions in place of deficiencies in the Mass. But the deficiencies are there.
Counting infants in the womb and yet to be in the womb, SSPX membership worldwide is one million.
compensate=compensating
You and I are heathens; they have The Faith.
They've looked down their noses at us so much their eyes are crossed.

BLESSING OUR ONENESS
We greet you Spirit of the North.
Teach us to plant our feet securely on the earth and to see things as they really are, that the coming of your Spirit may find us standing firm in integrity. Teach us, Spirit of the North, in the solitude of winter, to wait in darkness with the sleeping earth, believing that we, like the earth, already hold within ourselves the seeds of new life.
ALL: May the deep peace of mercy be on us forgiving us, beckoning us, encouraging us; and may our readiness to forgive calm the fears.
We greet you, O Spirit of the East.
Awaken in us with each day, new hopes, new dreams of colors, loves and joys never before imagined. Fill our bodies with your breath, invigorate us. Carry us to the farthest mountains and beyond. In-spirit us that we might reach out to you boldly to grasp the miracles that are given birth with each new dawn.
ALL: May the deep peace of compassion be on us holding us close when we are weary, hurt and alone; and may we be the warm hands and warm eyes of compassion when people reach out to us in need.
We greet you Spirit of the South.
You bring the winds of summer and breathe on us the warmth of the sun to sooth and heal our bodies and our spirits. Quicken us, draw us by the urgings of your warm breath to break through the soil of our own barrenness and fear. Teach us to hold sacred the memory of the spring rains that we might have the strength to withstand the heat of the day, and not become parched and narrow in our love. Lead us to accept fatigue with resignation, knowing that life is not to be rushed, that there is no flower of the field that grows from seed to blossom in a single day.
All: May the deep peace of gentleness be on us caressing us with sunlight, rain and wind; may tenderness shine through us to warm all who are hurt and lonely.
We greet you Spirit of the West; cool our hot and tired bodies, refresh and bring laughter to our hearts. It is you who usher in the setting sun. Guide our steps at the end of day; keep us safe from evil. Fill us with your peace as you enfold us with your great mystery of night that we might rest securely In your arms until morning call us forth again.
ALL: May the deep blessing of peace be on us stilling our hearts that have fear and doubt and confusion within them; and may peace cover us and all those who are troubled and anxious. May we be peacemakers.
We greet you, Great Spirit of the Earth.
It was from you we came as from a Mother; you nourish us still and give us shelter.
Teach us to walk softly on your lands, to use with care your gifts, to love with tenderness all our brothers and sisters who have been born of your goodness. And when the day comes when you call us back to yourself, help us to return to you as a friend, to find ourselves embraced, encircled and enfolded in your arms.
ALL: May the deep peace of community arise from within us, drawing us ever nearer, speaking to us of unity, true community where distinctions of persons is also oneness in being.

Nobody says you're heathens. But you both buy into the Lutheran interpretation of the faith--though neither of you will admit it. There simply is not a scintilla of difference between the Novus Ordo and the Lutheran liturgy.
Of course not. /sarcasm.
You are approaching kookburger status, UR. You are sedevecantist, you just can't bring yourself to admit it.
