Prayer for the Election of a Pope - Lord God, you are our eternal shepherd and guide. In your mercy grant your Church a shepherd who will walk in your ways and whose watchful care will bring us your blessing. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. (Collect, Mass for the Election of a Pope, Roman Missal)

I can see where that might be looked on as at least questionable. Made for a pretty funny commute though.

If he opposes war, he'll be the great peacemaker;
If he supports a war, he'll bring honor to our men in olive drab.

Are the same nine scrutinizers (chosen by lot) to hold that responsibility for the entire conclave, or do they draw lots each day/vote?

This is Tribal Council, isn't it? How long before Jeff Probst shows up to "tally the votes?"

I am very surprised to see this process can be pushed through in five days or less.

I suspect this will be a short one, because Ratzinger is probably a shoo in.

With his advanced age, he is no real long-term threat to any up and comers.

Thanks for putting this thread together with all the links -- wonder if there really is no clear cut frontrunner.

Me too

But I think that was about the cardinals picking the next pope

Don't mind me .. I'm a bad catholic .. but hey I no longer sit in the back of the church .. I'm to afraid if I sit up front, for fear there might be a bolt of lightening
