UPDATE His Eminence, Edward Cardinal Egan, has today accepted Monsignor Eugene Clarks resignation from his position as Rector of the Cathedral of Saint Patrick. Although Monsignor Clark continues to deny the allegations against him, he offered his resignation for the good of Saint Patricks and the Archdiocese. He will not be celebrating Mass or the sacraments publicly until this matter has been resolved.

I don't know this woman but I know I'd never sleep with a priest. Weird. She must be really needy or something.

At last the heave-o. The army learned this a long time ago. "
Gen. Kevin P. Byrnes, commander of Army Training and Doctrine Command, was approaching retirement when the decision to relieve him of duty was made by the Army chief of staff, Gen. Peter Schoomaker. The Army announced no specific allegation against Byrnes, but a senior official said it involved unspecified sexual misconduct. The official spoke only on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the allegation".

Oh, no, not him, too. A sad day.

Years ago, a local priest became involved with a woman. He lied to her that he was leaving the priesthood. She didn't really care. He eventually did leave the priesthood, after being kicked out of his job in a school. They married. And divorced a few years later. Some buy into the lie, also, that priests should be married and they can be an 'example' by falling in love and being a couple and him still being a priest.
Needy or wanting to 'rescue' him from his state of celibacy or whatever.

Maybe I am missing something, but I don't know what the person in that link was talking about. Yes, it's obviously worse to be guilty of pedophilia, but if your a priest and you are having an affair with a woman, I still think it's appropriate you get the boot. Have we lowered our standards that low, that having an affair is not that serious a breach? A priest caught doing this should be sent to a monastery. I find this "double standard" talk to be misguided. The fact that someone else committed a worse offense is no excuse.

Very sad. Maybe he'll be promoted to Rome. Sounds like they didn't need to cherchez la femme. If it was consensual, wonder why she turned him in, or did I get that wrong?
