MM, the Mormons have tried to cover up this chapter of their history.

I have a few Mormon friends. Great people. But, that does not change the fact that their religion is in error, nor does it change their history as a people.

Orthodox Christians tend to get angry when you say God lives on another planet etc.

There is no such evidence of your claims.

What Christians did in Missouri to fellow Americans was not acceptable. Murder of those you happen to disagree with is not an ethical or okay thing to do.

But, the difference is, history has long recognized that some Christians did murder Mormons. Christians acknowledge it happened.

The Mormon church still denies involvement with Mountain Meadows and the government of Utah is determined to prevent anybody from being able to examine the site of the massacre. It is a complete Mormon cover-up.

The Christians acknowledge their misdeeds against the Mormons.

Why won't the Mormons do the same?

If you do not learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it.

The "this is the 21st century" argument is quite lame. A student of history well knows that feuds over perceived and real slights in the past often go for centuries.

All of the arguments you made could also be used to justify reparations for slavery (which existed less than 150 years ago in the U.S.)

Of course not because Mormons aren't.

And they don't consider themselves to be either.

They consider themselves to be recoverers of the truth, a truth that all other Christian groups do not have.

Why a Mormon would claim to be Christian makes no sense.

Yes, and I think we've all apologized. We don't come out in public and deny it happened.

To All:

For whatever part I played, my religion played, or my country played, in slavery; I apologize, it was a horrible dispicable act of inhumane treatment of our fellow man. I will do everything in my power to ensure it never happens again. Why can't the Mormons do this simple act.

***So there's a new anti-mormon movie being made? What a surprise. ((yawn))***

Well, if you don't like the movie you can just read A STUDY IN SCARLET by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and see how Sherlock Holms delt with Mormons.

Utah Mormons,
Reorganized Mormons,
Temple Lot Mormons,

***It's also a touchy subject in Arkansas and among descendants of some of those that were murdered.***

There is an interesting monument in downtown HARRISON, AR.on this subject.

it would be nice to see the LDS hierarchy come forward, accept the blame, and publicly apologize.

Inasmuch as the alleged ringleader of the massacre, Bishop Pike, was actually tried, convicted and executed by the Mormons themselves what the LDS would have to apologize about is a mystery to me. This should remain in the past, as it had already been dealt with, as fairly as it could be...

The only man tried, convicted and executed was John D. Lee and indian agent and translator for the Church. He was 4th in command of the Mormon Militia. Brigham Young himself was the commander - as George Bush is the ultimate commander of our military.

John D. Lee was my great-great grandfather. He was executed by the Territory of Utah and was a scapegoat for the Mormon Church. You should read up on it sometime, perhaps before you post an opinion.

I stand corrected, my source was in error on the name.

You were related to the individual, and believe he was a scapegoat. I can accept that. Will the truth of the matter ever be known? Who knows?
