The Rights Of the Born (Social Justice Means Killing Your Own)
The Los Angeles Times ^ | February 10, 2006 | Anne Lamott

Posted on 02/12/2006 8:57:11 AM PST by Mrs. Don-o

EVERYTHING WAS going swimmingly on the panel. The subject was politics and faith, and I was on stage with two clergymen with progressive spiritual leanings, and a moderator who is liberal and Catholic. We were having a discussion with the audience of 1,300 people in Washington about many of the social justice topics on which we agree — the immorality of the federal budget, the wrongness of the president's war in Iraq. Then an older man came to the mike and raised the issue of abortion, and everyone just lost his or her mind.

Or, at any rate, I did.

Maybe it was the way in which the man couched the question, which was about how we should reconcile our progressive stances on peace and justice with the "murder of a million babies every year in America."

First Richard [Rohr], a Franciscan priest, answered that this is indeed a painful issue ... Then Jim [Wallis], an evangelical, spoke about the need to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies, and...spoke gently about how "morally ambiguous" the issue is.

I sat there simmering, like a samovar; nice Jesusy me. The moderator turned to me and asked quietly if I would like to respond. I did: I wanted to respond by pushing over our table.

...There was a loud buzzing in my head...but the voice of my conscience was insistent. I wanted to express calmly, eloquently, that pro-choice people understand that there are two lives involved in an abortion — one born (the pregnant woman) and one not (the fetus) — but that the born person must be allowed to decide what is right.

Also, I wanted to wave a gun around, to show what a real murder looks like.

If we are people of faith at all, we have to pray for Anne Lamott.

If you've read her books, you'll realize that she was a drunk, a doper, and a sad, self-destructive promiscuous lost child. Somehow our Lord God made contact with her and she became convinced that God loves her and does not desire her destruction. So Jesus loves her and she loves Jesus. So far, so good.

What she does not (yet) realize is that, not only did jesus love her when she was drunk, down and dirty, but Jesus even loved her when she was Unborn Anne, the size of a sea monkey, the size of a brine shrimp or a grain of rice. God loved her even then, with an everlasting love.

It is this God who "knits" the unborn child in the mother's womb (Psalm 139) and who is offended when somebody unravels His handwork --- His babies --- into bloody shreds and disposes of them in a bio-waste bag in the public landfill.

Anne, Anne! God loved them, too! This is heart-breaking: yes, repent and break your heart! God will never, neer accept abortion, never: but He will accept and mend a broken heart.

This is why it hurts to read her books, beautifully written as they are. Lamott is so wedded to her leftwing positions that she cannot question whether they are compatible with what God requires.

If one were to ask her, "Anne, how do you think Jesus would have helped a woman with a crisis pregnancy?" I wonder what she would say.

I tried. I brough home Jim Wallis' thick book, but it is so obtuse, I put it down and took it back to the library. They are starting with the tradition of democratic social programs and trying to wrap a morality around it that competes with the Christian right. I do not think that is an authentic method. No wonder she wants to scream.

Has a penetrating article today about "The Maternal Victims of Abortion." Anne Lamott is a case study is practically all of the symptoms. Thankfully - based on what she writes in her books - God has blessed her with an intense maternal love for her own "born" son, Sam. We will await his adult memoirs before passing judgement on any "abuse," but hopefully, life in her Christian community has insulated her from that symptom.

I read Bird by Bird. It was pretty well written and I am aware of her history. But this is deep at the core of her soul. Is is a single stone kernel of wheat and unless It falls to the ground and dies, she cannot be reborn. We all have something like this, I believe.

She approves of abortion and likes guns. Sounds like her values are a little twisted.

Conservative Christians start with Christian teaching and Christian tradition and proceed from there. Liberal Christians are first and foremost socialists, and are more at home in a university setting than in a church.

Jim Wallis was genuinely anti-abortion 25 years ago. He has seriously lost his moral focus since then. Really, it's a shame: I once had some hopes for him.

Well, God bless the man who calmly approached the microphone and raised the abortion question with the social justice conference. He clearly stirred the whole place up with his quiet word of truth. That's what we should be doing at every opportunity.

but that the born person must be allowed to decide what is right.

This person does not know the God of the Bible.
It is a Godless person who believes they know right from wrong without the Bible as the foundation.

How one can go around and fornicate and then punish the unborn child for there actions is beyond me.
It is wicked and selfish of those who wish to kill a child because they do not want the responsibility or risk of having a child.
There are so many people who can not have children that would raise them.
It is also the man who is responsible and many times they would gladly take the child and let the mother go away without any further responsibility.
It is a Godless people who punish the unborn for the selfish acts of irresponsibility, and protect the murders to feel good of themselves.

Dehumanizing - a neat trick to justify genocide:

Plus I am so confused about why we are still having to argue with patriarchal sentimentality about teeny weenie so-called babies — some microscopic, some no bigger than the sea monkeys we used to send away for...

Anne might not be so confused if she would just be honest with herself and recognize ALL human beings deserve human rights

We huddled together for awhile, and ate M&Ms to give us strength. It was a kind of communion, for those of us who still believe that civil rights and equality and even common sense will somehow be sovereign, some day. It make more sense Anne if you drop your self-serving version of "human rights".

Two things:(1) the majority those involved in the pro-life movement are women. (2) human embryos are not sea monkeys. If so, she was once a sea monkey.

Editorial:

The cliche, "If you cannot be a shining example to your children, then you will at least be a great warning to them," can be applied to our baby-booming narcissistic generation. We have passed on the torch of death to Generation X, the "Death-Roe" generation.

No one in America born after January 22, 1973 was entitled to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." As with the condemned at Auschwitz, their life or death was at the whim of another. Yet this time, instead of the Gestapo, one's own mother was the executioner. Margaret Sanger (Nazgul) and Planned Barrenhood (alias Planned Parenthood) have unleashed a worldwide culture of death in peddling impurity, contraception, abortion, and genocide.

It is sad that God, love and life do not unite people as much as do licentiousness, hatred and revenge.

With impurity, licentiousness and murder firmly rooted, Satan, Sauron and Sodomy (SSS) are now beginning their final assault on mankind. The destruction of the family! Our ode to God, love and life, and the destruction of the Ring (our rebellious will) will bring the SSS to its death.

Ode:

Whoever enters into married life
Enters into a life of sharing and caring
Giving and forgiving, loving and being loved
If each lover sees through the other's eyes
Always trusting and believing
And thanking God for one another
Their souls will blossom together
For a love that is shared is a heavenly thing
By its melody it brings new life to the soul
Walking hand in hand
Sharing each other in body and soul
Comes a child
Flesh of our flesh
Soul of light divine
Children are our source of light and warmth
A symbol of our life and love together.
Then will the Age of Man and the Kingship
of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ begin!

God bless!

A cloud of misery fell over the room, and the stage. Finally, Jim said something unifying enough for us to proceed — that liberals must not treat people with opposing opinions on abortion with contempt and exclusion, partly because it's tough material, and partly because it is so critical that we win these next big elections.

All that matters to these people is winning elections--whether it's with pro-lifers(lite) like Bob Casey or ardent pro-deathers like Ted Kennedy. Christianity? Well, it's OK if it helps you get a couple more votes from confused Catholics.

" I wanted to express calmly, eloquently, that pro-choice people understand that there are two lives involved in an abortion — one born (the pregnant woman) and one not (the fetus alive and sensing unborn CHILD) — but that the born person must be allowed to decide what is right." She doesn't get it --that an adult is not allowed to decide to kill a toddler in the house just because the adult may think it is right-- and she doesn't want to get it! There is only one reason, based upon our founding traditions, when it is acceptable to terminate a pregnancy that being the grounds of self defense, to save her own life (not her schooling, her career, her figure, ONLY her life). Yet even that reason doesn't carry with it an automatic right to kill an alive but unborn child ... pregnancies terminated at seven months bring a living child into the world for US to care for, ending a female's endangerment from the pregnancy. People can hem and haw and rattle around the issue, but that is the ONLY grounds upon which our founding traditions could allow the stopping of life support for another alive human being!

If you think Lamott is 'born again' consider this: would Jesus nod agreement with her 'position' on killing the alive unborn? hardly ...

Actually, there are those who really believe that the state or parents should be able to kill a child until the magical "age of consent" where they can function by themselves. They use many of the same arguments, only the flip side.
