The Liturgical Desert is over! (Vanity)

Hello all,

In recent months I have written here and there on various threads about my (and my family's) intention to relocate to New Jersey in order to be regular parishioners at a full-fledged all Tridentine Mass parish.

Well...God be praised...by His will, I was offered in a job in the Philadelphia area, and will be starting on Monday, Feb. 27th.

At long last, we will be leaving behind the liturgical nonsense of Novus Ordo Baltimore and the liturgical mininmalism of the Tridentine Indult in Baltimore. At long last, we will once again be registered with a parish and be involved in regular parish activities and of course in a very MAXIMIZED Liturgical Schedule all within the framework and centered around the Tridentine Mass.

7 years ago, I left the SSPX for reasons that I care not to debate, and I have since then been wandering the Sinai Desert of lackluster Indult Masses and mediocre to crazy Novus Ordo Masses. Well, the joyful and full liturgical life that I once had in the SSPX will again live on, and now within the legitimate auspices of Rome. The name of our new parish is Mater Eccclesie. I encourage all to check out there website.

I pray that many more may share in this joy especially if and when Pope Benedict makes such as this widely possible. For my wife and I...we couldn't wait, and so this was in all truth the sole reason of why we are now relocating...the availability of a full time all-Tridentine Mass parish in full communion with the Pope.

Exclusive of religious considerations, relocating from Maryland to New Jersey is not much of a change.

Not true...

In fact, as an accountant and having carefully considered financial ramifications:

1. I am actually going to be financially better off too in New Jersey, despite Jersey's reputation for high taxes. For starters, the Income Tax in Jersey will be about 20% of what Maryland is, so my paycheck will already increase even without the raise I'm getting. Also, there are some parts of Jersey where houses are still affordable that are in decent areas close to good paying jobs for young families like mine, whereas in Maryland, affordable housing is limited to crime infested Baltimore or far away rural parts of the state where good paying jobs are scarce. Affordable for us is under $200,000. It's absolutely ridiculous to pay more than this for modest square footage.

2. The homeschool laws are more lenient...something that be strongly relevant in 4 more years for us.

3. After religious reasons, the culture in Jersey is certainly different. Maryland is heavily anglo-Saxon in culture, whereas Jersey is heavily Italian and Catholic culturally(my own background). This means among other things that I will be enjoying better food and will be more easily befriending people with a like mentality.

Congratulations! I've got some friends there, who have been very happy with the parish for the past few years.

Congrats! I actually was a torch bearer at a Tridentine wedding this afternoon (Solemn High Mass). They had Christendom College's choir sing the ordinary. They were outstanding, as usual.

I think I told you I visited Mater Ecclesiae last summer on my birthday (Independence Day). I really like it there. The pastor gave a wonderful sermon about the questionable aspects of our nation's founding, from a Catholic perspective. After Mass, the Knights invited me to join them in the Independence Day parade they were going to be marching in nearby. I decided not to, but I was taken aback a bit that they were willing to invite me (a stranger, though a brother Knight).

This is indeed good news! Thank you for sharing it. The peace that accompanies revent Sunday worship, permeates daily life and is carried into the workplace.

Do you think the Holy Spirit guided you out of the schism and into comunion with Rome after your penance in the liturgical desert?

Congratulations on being so blessed. Many other of our brothers and sisters never have their longanimity rewarded on earth and they suffer, silently, the vageries of poor liturgies with indifferent priests and disengaged Bishops

The Holy Spirit guided me out of the schism 7 years ago as I stated above. Why must you throw make snide remarks and rain of this joyous day? Oh, and suffering through poor liturgies ceases to be expiatory penance when I have young children to rear in the Catholic faith. I don't look at what I will be having as so much a reward on earth, but a necessity for the spiritual needs of myself and my family. Sometimes there is fine line between acts of penance and foolishness.

I agree. There is a genuine sense of communion at Mater Ecclesiae that really permeates the good people there from their liturgical participation to their hospitality.

You misunderstood my intention, brother. I was thinking about your situation in a spiritual way. My post had nothing to do with a snide attitude and "congratulations on being so blessed" is rain only in the sense noted by Portia

The quality of mercy is not strain'd,

It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven

Upon the place beneath: it is twice blest;

It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:

'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes

The throned monarch better than his crown;

His sceptre shows the force of temporal power,

The attribute to awe and majesty,

Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings;

But mercy is above this sceptred sway;

It is enthroned in the hearts of kings,

It is an attribute to God himself;...

*I apologize for giving you the wrong impression.

St. Joseph's Feast Day falls on a Sunday this year. According to the 1962 "classes" of feasts, which gets the presidence? I know the Novus Ordo will commemorate it on Monday the 20th.

In both the Tridentine and Novus Ordo, the Feast of St. Joseph, in its entirety (all Masses and Office), is transferred to Monday the 20th. Next year the same will happen for the Annunciation, when March 25th. falls on Sunday.

No "External Solemnities" or Commemorations apply in this case in the Tridentine, because by definition, a transfer is when a Feast is actually moved to another day entirely, whereas an External Solemnity is the allowance of one or two Masses (but never the Office) of a particular feast to be celebrated on a Sunday, but the actual feast (Masses and Office) still remains on its own day (e.g. Corpus Christi). A Commemoration is when a Feast is actually not celebrated at all and reduced by a higher ranking day.
