Religious Leaders Call for Boycott of Sony’s DaVinci Code the Movie (Comments by HLI President)

Religious Leaders Call for Boycott of Sony’s DaVinci Code the Movie:

Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie… seeks to profit off bigotry, proselytizes paganism, and undermines the dignity of women …,” states prominent Roman Catholic Priest

(Front Royal, VA) The Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, President of Human Life International (HLI), joined Dr. Ted Baehr of Movieguide.org, Don Feder, Austin Ruse of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, Patrick Reilly of the Cardinal Newman Society, and Bob Knight of Concerned Women for America as part of The Interfaith Coalition Against 'The DaVinci Code.'"

An address by Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, President of Human Life International (HLI), at the National Press Club:

“Good Afternoon, I am the Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer, President of Human Life International a Catholic Human Rights Organization with offices in 75 countries.

“The Da Vinci Code is filled with contradictions, nonsensical statements, and innumerable artistic and historical inaccuracies.

“It is not the contradictions and two-dimensional characters that have led to our boycott of Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie.

“Human Life International is boycotting Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie because it seeks to profit off bigotry, proselytizes Satanism, and undermines the dignity of women.

“Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie seeks to profit off the permissible prejudice of anti-Catholic Bigotry. If Ron Howard were to replace the word Catholic every time it appeared in the Da Vinci Code with Jew or Muslim, the outcry from the mainstream media would have rightfully been deafening.

“Why is it acceptable to slander Christians generally and Catholics specifically?

“If Sony profits from anti-Catholic bigotry this May, what can we expect in the future?

“Next summer, will they seek to profit off anti-Semitism: Protocols of the Elders of Zion coming to a theater near you, Directed by Ron Howard?

“Will Sony remake Birth of a Nation?

“Tom Hanks starring as Hitler in Sony’s Mein Kampf may be just around the corner.

“Sony must get the message loud and clear: you can not profit from hate. Sony may make money by bashing Christians and Mocking Jesus Christ with Da Vinci Code the Movie, but they will pay every penny back in dollars in the years to come.

“Let us reject bigotry and Boycott Sony’s Da Vinci Code Movie.

“The Da Vinci Code glorifies hieros gamos a satanic ritual that reduces women to nothing more than objects in a male dominated sex ritual.

“Out of respect for women, let us boycott Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie.

“Should any Christian see this movie? At our baptism, we pledge to ‘reject Satan, and all his works and all his empty promises.’

“Let us reject Sony’s Da Vinci Code the Movie!” concluded the Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer.

Is your faith in your religion so inadequate that you can not tolerate the heat from a fictional phenomenon? Wouldn't your time be much better spent serving your fellow men? Leading by Christian example?

People judge a church by its people, not by a movie.

It isn't "mere fiction," and condescension will get you nowhere.

Just do what some Catholic orgs. are doing, see "Over the Hedge" instead to deprive "The DaVinci Code" of bragging rights.

I'm not saying condescend; rather, rise above it. People do stuff like this just to rile Christians up. And it works, so why would they not press on?

Over the Hedge looks funny. Much more lighthearted and family-oriented, if anything. I, however, do plan on seeing the Da Vinci Code anyway. It's a thriller, nothing more.

Please, define 'condescending' according to your standards.

From Merriam-Webster

2 : patronizing attitude or behavior

That's exactly what you were doing in your first post to me.

Sony will make big bucks on this one. I predict this movie will gross at least 200 million.

Even with the bad reviews? That will deter some people. It will also cut into the repeat views.

*******

Ian McKellen, an openly gay actor who plays Leigh Teabing in The Da Vinci Code, tried to make light of the controversy.

"I'm very happy to believe that Jesus was married," he said. "I know the Catholic Church has problems with gay people and I thought this would be absolute proof that Jesus was not gay."

*****

you can count me among the 200 million that think that was gross.

What a great idea. I'm gonna have to round up all the grandkids and take them to the movies Friday.
