Many of you ordered the book "Saints Behaving Badly" by Thomas Craughwell. He's a reader of this blog and recently started a greeting/note/holy card business. He sells exquisite reproductions of antique Catholic holy cards. Right now, Christmas cards are of course a good idea - Each package contains 12 full-color Christmas cards (envelopes included) in four beautiful designs, originally produced between 1880 and 1900 in Austria, Germany, Bohemia, and France.

The site is Antique Holy Cards.com Here two samples:

Oh my!! They are gorgeous!! I haven't purchased my Christmas cards yet. I usually buy them from our church but I may have to just give them a donation and buy from this family instead. I would even consider framing them and setting them about the hosue for decoration.

Thank you so much for the ping!!

One of the pleasures of living in Minnesota was going to auctions. Generally, being in such a predominantly Catholic area meant finding the treasured old Missal or prayer book among the offerings. I managed to acquire a few, and they all had numerous old holy cards and prayer reminders in them. My collection needs to be put into document protectors and saved, but it's big enough to be interesting. :o)

I live in Kentucky and love going to yard sales and I come across all kinds of old and new Catholic stuff. A few years ago my mother in law moved in with her daughter and gave me and my husband all her religious items. I am sure there are a couple of pieces that might be of value. One item is an old sick call box. I think I might have to find a home for it to make sure it is preserved. Right now I am looking at two metal pictures, one of Mary, the other the boy Jesus holding a bird in one hand and flowers in the other. Plus I have items in storage that need a home. Four years ago we were planning on buying a house but my husband lost his job and that dream is long gone now. It would have been easier to put the religious items displayed in a house where there would be more room. There just isn't that kind of room in an apartment. Heck probably have too much stuff now. But I just love it. Especially the old stuff and friends give me stuff which makes it even more special. Love your photos.

"Saints Behaving Badly"

Ah, Augustine! My favorite saint, and the originator of one of my favorite short Catholic Prayers. Hardly a day goes by that I don't say it. ;-)

Isn't this amazing! The 'secularist' catholics in my family have singled me out as the recipient of anything religious, when their relatives die. I now find myself scouring yard sales for Catholic merchandise. These are great treasures, lost to the secularists ;-)
