You can be prayed into heaven if you're not a mormon, but if you are a morman you take the chance of going to hell. Why would you be a mormon?
I don't care what they believe, as long as they inculcate good personal and civic values. This is about the public square, not about who gets the keys to heaven and who does not. I am not going to heaven, and sometimes, assuming there is a heaven, that gives me great pleasure. I don't want to rub shoulders with some that are confident they will be admitted.
So attacking Mormons isn't personal?
Have you ever met a Mormon?
Nothing of any substance has so far been posted on this thread, except a bald assertion that one religious faith is damned.
Do you personally know any Mormons?
It is not tolerable to call another Freeper a pejorative, read his mind, attribute motives to him and such - that is what we mean by "making it personal."
About all I know about Mormons is that they make great neighbors, they really know great architecture, but you never like to see a pair of them coming up your driveway on bicycles.
Southern Baptist see the mormons as a cult. What can I say. I have to stand up for my beliefs.
This should be zotted. It's a substance-free, gratuitous insult to a religious group. It violates FR rules. Please zot it quickly.
My niece and her husband are Mormons. I certainly don't agree with Mormon theology, but they are good, solid fmaily people who do nobody any harm. Why do you feel the need to attack them?
**The mormon religion is a cult so says me**
That pretty much sums up this thread. You believe it and therefore you felt it was necessary to post a thread. I see no purpose in this. And I'd still like an answer to my question: have you ever met a Mormon? Or do you base your beliefs on things you've read?
And? Some people see the Baptists as a cult. Some people see the Catholics as a cult.
ZOT NOW!
You are better off being a Morman, because the liklihood that you will acquire personal vices that shortens your life is reduced, you have a community that cares about you, you acquire self confidence and leadership qualities on your mission, and you gain a network that will assist and encourage you in achieving your goals while on this mortal coil. The downside is possible hubris as to "knowing" more than one can really know, but then, that danger is present in other faiths, when not levened by understanding, and humility, and well, a sense of humor. Over and out.
Some people see conservatives as a cult, some see liberals as a cult, some see environmentalists as a cult. It's the easiest way of trashing an entire group of people.
My personal Doctor was a Mormon before he moved back to Utah. Just what don't you think I understand?
It's a gratuitous insult to a particular group. I didn't think we allowed that at FR. (Unless it's liberals, of course. :) )
I don't see what purpose this thread serves.
What don't I think you understand? A better question would be "what do I think you *do* understand?" And that would be a very short answer. One of my roommates in college was a Mormon. I used to go to church events with her, although I never went to a church service. She is incredibly nice and very generous. And a solid conservative. I don't see what you hope to accomplish by trashing an entire group of people.
Either challenge the points made at the link or not; either debate his position or don't, but don't attack a specific person with it.
We debate all sorts of things here. Please don't drive the Religion Moderator crazy.
