CISA: Libyan leader denies Christ’s Crucifixion, denounces Christianity

4/4/2007

Catholic Information Service for Africa (www.cisanewsafrica.org/)

TRIPOLI, Libya (CISA) – Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said that it was a mistake to believe that Jesus had been crucified and killed.

"It is not correct to say that. Another man resembling Jesus was crucified in his place," Gaddafi told a March 30 mass prayer meeting in Niger to mark the birth of the Prophet Mohammed. The meeting was aired live on Libyan state television.

The president, according to Reuters, also said Christianity was not a universal faith alongside Islam.

"There are serious mistakes - among them the one saying that Jesus came as a messenger for other people other than the sons of Israel," he said.

"Christianity is not a faith for people in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. Other people who are not sons of Israel have nothing to do with that religion."

Gaddafi, who is seeking to expand his influence in Africa, said his arguments came from the Koran. He led similar prayers last year in Mali. His country is more than 95 percent Sunni Muslim.

"It is a mistake that another religion exists alongside Islam. There is only one religion which is Islam after Mohammed," Gaddafi said in his sermon.

"All those believers who do not follow Islam are losers," he added. "We are here to correct the mistakes in the light of the teachings of the Koran."

Let's say GaDAFFY's knowledge of Christian theology is not the best, to put it mildly.

Just my opinion -- but I've noticed on threads like this:

Nothing good can come of this discussion. It only leads to hatred and anger against others in our hearts.

Why hate a blind man for bumping into you? Our response should be to pray for Gaddafi (which I just did, BTW).

He's completely right. The Koran states that Jesus didn't really die on the Cross.

Certainly, that may be true. And the Jews believe Jesus was a nobody. And the Asians go: "Jesus who?"

People all over the world believe different things. I am not tempted to hate them or denouce them.

Well that ol’ Libyan fart is just stating what Muslims believe in.They say that it was someone else(most probably our old friend Judas Iscariot) who was crucified & that Jesus was raised up by Allah, but will be sent back down to die & go back up again.

Yep. Why should someone who believes in another religion believe in mine? I appreciate the fact that at least Qua-Daffy has not watered down his religion to be "inclusive of other beliefs" like a lot of liberal moonbat so-called Christians have done.

“And the Asians go: “Jesus who?””

News update: There are now about 100 million Christians in China.

Christianity adapts itself to THOUSANDS of different language groups around the world, while Islam is an ethnic Arab movement.

Really, there are about 16 million Christians in China, which is a lot. But, still, with a population of over one billion, it's not that many.

As for "Islam is an ethnic Arab movement" -- it may have started that way, but they do match us in adherents, in nations throughout the world. Uncomfortable, but true:

Well, he is entitled to his opinion.

No surprise there.

Maybe he should negotiate a film deal with Ron Howard and Dan Brown.

Yes, he is entiled to say what he believes, and so are you. However, someone has to be right about the subject. As to the Asians, one of the notable thing about China is the growth of Christianity among the Han. It would be nothing new for God that as Europe abandons the faith that defines it, that China might accept Christ. But the two contestants for the souls of man are Christians and Muslims. Islam is certainly making more noise right now.

Actually, I didn't say he is entitled to say anything about Christians. Frankly, I think people should shut up about other people's religious beliefs. It's obnoxious.

But he’s NOT talking about Christianity, not really, except to say that he believes it is not the true faith. He is simply affirming his faith in Islam, that Islam is the only true faith. Again, what he says about Jesus is what the Koran says about Jesus, and he believes that the Koran—not Jesus—is the Word of God. His statements are simply true or they are not.
