Sacred Scandal Weekend begins Friday April 6 through Sun April 8 beginning at 12pm ET/9am PT. Running Monday through Friday. Here's the programming...

The Holy Grail April 6th For centuries, storytellers have enthralled audiences with the exploits of those who've dared to pursue the Holy Grail, from King Arthur to Indiana Jones. But just what is the Holy Grail and why does it continue to capture our imagination?

Secret Bible (HD) The Knights Templar Beginning April 6th, repeating on April 16th and 21st The real creators of the Da Vinci Code, the Knights Templar were said to own the Holy Grail. We use ground-penetrating radar to explore their treasure sites.

Rivals of Jesus Beginning April 6th, repeating on April 17th and 22nd There was more than one Messiah and just like Jesus the other messiahs were said to heal the sick, raise the dead and were even called the Sons of God. So why were they forgotten?

Apocalypse Beginning April 6th, repeating on April 18th and 23rd Are these the "End Days," as prophesied in the Bible? Millions say yes. Explore the prophecies of the end of the world and compares them to newly-uncovered scientific facts.

Secret Lives of Jesus (HD) Beginning April 6th, repeating on April 13th and 14th More than 1,500 years ago, ancient writings were buried that offered alternative narratives about Jesus of Nazareth. There were many of these alternative gospels that rendered very different versions of the story and were considered scandalous and deemed heretical. Rediscovered within the last century, these texts offer more questions than answers. Secret Lives of Jesus examines these mysterious lost stories of Christ, exploring the fundamental questions surrounding the texts. Who wrote them and why? How do they compare to the accepted New Testament gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? And why were the stories forgotten for so long? Secret Lives of Jesus deconstructs the forces at play during this time of radical religious ideals - and offers a tantalizing glimpse inside the logic behind some of the most bizarre stories ever told about Jesus Christ.

Riddles of the Bible (HD) All day April 7th

The Lost Cities of the Bible Its one of the most infamous stories in the Bible.. a tale of two cities gone bad: Sodom and Gomorrah destroyed as God’s retribution for scandalous sin. Then, centuries after God does away with Sodom and Gomorrah, he sides with Joshua to conquer another bisvehaving city: Jericho. Are these Bible stories fact or moral fable? Biblical scholars and scientists look to archaeological and geological evidence to uncover the mysteries of the Lost Cities.

The Hunt for the Ark of the Covenant An epic scholarly journey around the world, in search of the truth behind one of the most coveted artefacts of the Bible – the Lost Ark.

The Secret Code of the Book of Revelation The Battle of Armageddon; the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse; the Beast whose number is 666… each are mentioned in this book of the Bible. But does Revelation really have the power of prophecy?

Exodus Revealed A scientific investigation of the ten plagues of Egypt and the parting of the Red Sea seeks to determine if the biblical story of Exodus really happened.

Search for Noah It is perhaps the best-known story in the Bible: A righteous man named Noah, who built an ark and survived a flood. But what happened – or didn’t happen – to noah is raising questions: in geology, in astronomy, even in global imaging. And they start with the most basic question of all: did it really happen?

In Search of Easer April 8th The resurrection of Jesus is the cornerstone of Christian faith yet also its greatest mystery. Is it fact, fiction or both? A miracle or a mass hallucination? What happened during the 40 days the New Testament says that the risen Jesus made appearances in ancient Israel? The gospel accounts come to life…from the discovery of the empty tomb to Jesus’ appearance before his mystified disciples in Jerusalem to a riveting encounter with “Doubting Thomas.” Scholars representing a wide spectrum of belief search for the truth.

Riddles of the Dead: Man Behind the Shroud April 8th The Shroud of Turin: sacred Christian relic or clever fake? If it was created, it must have been by someone with extraordinary skills. The evidence points to one of the greatest geniuses ever to have lived: Was Leonardo da Vinci the Man Behind the Shroud of Turin?

In a heady mix of styles taken from African, Hebrew and Christian tradition, followers of Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity are about to give the Holy City one of its most colorful ceremonies.

National Geographic is going to explore the craggy mountains of heresy. It's all here: Knight Templer, The Gospel of Judas, multiple messiahs, The resurrection as a mass hallucination, Lost cities of the bible (i.e. re-imagining Sodom).... Brace yourselves.

My boss more than 40 years ago suggested one time I look at the names on the Board of Directors for the NG.

This after I was questioning about the folks on the Boards of Directors of a lot of ONE WORLD organizations way back then.

There were a LOT of such folks on more than one such Board of Directors.

NG has never been a friend of Christians.

A miracle or a mass hallucination?

Considering the initial reactions of the first witnesses, it took some time for the 'hallucination' to hit stride.

Walking the Bible

I've seen bits and pieces of this and thought it was interesting. Feiler isn't a totally convinced believer but he is a rational inquirer and treats Scripture with respect. Not veneration, but respect.

Indeed, which is why I haven’t had a subscription to NG for some time. Funny thing though, for ten years and who knows how many moves they keep sending me renewal notices!

Don’t know if I or dad has a subscription at the moment. I’m not above buying one on the newstand if it’s a topic I like.

Might come a day when I won’t.

It's gettimg to be that I dont trust watching anything on the History Channel or National Geographic when it comes to religious programs.

Fox News did have an interesting show on Easter evening, Fr. Jonathan Morris was part of it so I thought it would treat the material fairly.

On the positive side, it shows that Easter is still important to them - if they spend so much time and ink trying to debunk it!

Yes, !RISEN! is important to them.

I think they can hardly wait until the purported “ET’s” “prove” with “historic” “holographic videos” that Christ’s life and deity were not as the Bible’s historically accurate narrative describes them.

The GREAT END TIMES DECEPTION(s) will be extensive. It will require that CHRIST’S SHEEP KNOW HIS VOICE, I think, to avoid falling for the deceptions coming down the pike. I think the NG stuff is just warming up.

Indeed, one of the signs of an upcoming Christian holiday is all the anti Christian stuff showing up on TV and in the book store.

But what really worries me is that it is also in the seminaries. My friend, who spent a year in an ELCA seminary, no longer knows if he believes in the Resurrection (since the Bible is just a collection of myths and stories of how God wants us to live). I have also heard such things from more "orthodox" denominations.

We have let the evil one into the institutions that are teaching the next generation. We, as Christians, need to do a reverse Gramsci soon.

We have let the evil one into the institutions that are teaching the next generation.

Evil was let in a long time ago, and IMHO this is responsible for many of the things we have seen over the last 30 years. I think the "higher Biblical criticism" movement of the early part of the 20th century had an extremely negative effect on the faith of many scholars and academics. These people went into teaching or wrote the texts for seminaries, and the result was - even before Vatican II - a group of people whose faith had been "hollowed out" from the inside. With the changes brought to the Church by Vatican II and the instability in the world brought by the 60's, it took only the smallest effort by these people to destroy, as much as possible, all the religious institutions and take them over, and then create followers who would continue this evil.

I think this applies to all the denominations and their seminaries. Way back in 1965, I met a young man about my age who was entering a Lutheran seminary - within two years, he believed nothing of what he had at the time he entered.

Which is why I still feel a lot of anger over what happened to my friend. He had/has a calling. They took his faith and weakened it, and then he tried to do the same to others.

I am thankful that God led me by the nose into the studies I have stumbled on, some do to things here on FR. Now at least I have the back ground to debate him, and know what dung he was fed and where it came from.

We are in a very odd time where the laity have faith that the clergy abandoned.
