Hello,
I've been mulling over writing this thread for months, but feel that the time is right.
My mother passed away in October, after a long battle with lung cancer. She was a lovely woman, a good mother and a wonderful friend to all. My life changed forever on the night that she died. She died surrounded by her loved ones. And only God can understand how much I miss her.
First, I would like to say that my mother was an avid lurker. She kept up on the political news with the assistance of Freerepublic. She was addicted to FOXNEWS, and if she watched a segment about a significant news story, she would look on FR to see if there was more information.
She lived alone, and was quite addicted to the computer. She must have checked the Drudgereport and Freerepublic ten times a day. She kept up on all of the breaking news and enjoyed the commentary on FR. She felt it was a comfortable setting with very friendly posters. FR was a big part of her daily life, even though she never became a member. I like to think that she was in the company of many other fine lurkers who are hesitant about joining.
She was passionate about the Terri Schiavo story and the Natalee Holloway story. She read those threads every single morning, checking for updates.
Her heart was literally broken the day that Terri Schiavo died... she died on my mother's birthday. And my mother commented that she would never celebrate another birthday in her life without first remembering Terri and her struggle to live.
Terri's fight in the courts sobered my mother greatly. And she subsequently got a living will and settled her "final wishes" keeping Terri in mind. She wanted to make sure that her family would not have to go through the struggles and heartache that Terri's family did. My mother was conscientious about making sure every item regarding end-of-life issues was attended to and that my mother's life would be protected should she face the same difficulties that Terri and her family did.
With Natalee Holloway, she enjoyed the speculation on the threads and appreciated the posters were trying to solve a mystery. She kept abreast of all new speculation and would comment to me frequently, saying that Beth Holloway Twitty was a strong woman. Natalee's disappearance was heartbreaking to my mother, because she related to Beth Holloway Twitty as a mother.
To all of the Freepers who kept up on the Schiavo and Holloway stories, I want you to know that my mother found them very valuable and she was always impressed with the commentary and discussions.
My mother may not have joined FR, but she thought it was a very valuable resource. I thank you all for contributing to the site that really did enrich my mother's life.
Thank you.
~Prayers~
