House Speaker Pelosi Vows to Kill Defense of Marriage Act and Still Receive Communion Pelosi relieved no bishop has had the courage to call her to account for her strong abortion advocacy

By Peter J. Smith

SAN FRANCISCO, August 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has vowed to join Barack Obama's new crusade to kill the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and promises to continue to fortify herself with Holy Communion from the Catholic Church for the campaign.

Pelosi told reporters at a press conference last Thursday that she plans to support Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) in his effort to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, should the American people elevate him to the presidency.

The Culture and Media Institute reports that Pelosi responded with a firm "yes" that she would lead the next Congress to repeal DOMA, which currently prevents same-sex couples who "marry" in either California or Massachusetts from suing and forcing states to repudiate their bans on homosexual "marriage."

As the Catholic Speaker pledged to knock out one of the remaining props of real marriage in the United States, Pelosi also told C-SPAN that she is thankful still to receive communion while crusading against all pro-life attempts to restrict or eliminate legal abortion.

In a C-SPAN interview released on Sunday, Pelosi explained that while other US politicians have had problems from their bishops denying them communion over abortion, she has continued to receive without any difficulty.

"I think some of it is regional," Pelosi stated. "It depends on the bishop of a certain region and fortunately for me, communion has not been withheld."

She added, "I'm a regular communicant so that would be a severe blow to me if that were the case."

On the marriage issue, I’m continually baffled that politicians say they are against same-sex marriage, but then want to repeal the federal law defining marriage.

The Defense of Marriage Act not only allows state to not recognize same-sex marriage from other states, it also defines marriage in federal law as 1 man 1 woman.

If the Defense of Marriage Act is repealed, then the federal gov’t would not have a definition of marriage. Then I assume that the courts would say the federal gov’t has to recognize whatever any state defines as marriage.

Repealing the Defense of Marriage Act will pave the way for 50 state same-sex marriage by setting the stage for the next lawsuits filed by gay activists to force the issue.

I can’t believe Obama. He said he’s against same-sex marriage, favors allowing each state to define marriage, favors granting partner rights to same-sex couples, and wants to repeal the federal law which defines marriage. Gee this guy is full of contradictions on this issue alone.

Pelosi is a CINO. She has basically excommunicated herself. The only way she can validly receive the Sacraments is to go to Confession/Reconciliation and promise to amend her ways.

Don’t think that will happen because her politics override her conscience at this point.

I doubt that God is going to fortify Nancy for the campaign. Although, I could be wrong. The word does say that God will abandon us to our evil ways if we continually refuse to repent. He just may be letting us as a nation get what we’ve earned.

The next pope will not allow this stuff to happen. He will require ALL Catholics to believe and practice the faith before receiving communion. Many will leave and seek to form their own church.

I hope so. They should jump over to the Episcopalian church, at least the liberal wing of it. That is the church of their dreams and leave the rest of us alone. No orthodox or conservative Christian that I know fits into either the Republican or Democratic party perfectly. However in this day and age there is only ONE political party that would not persecute the Church and that is the Republican party - period. Anyone who would debate that is either a fool or disingenuous.

The fact that the RCC, (by this I refer to both the leaders and the individual members) basically put up with pols who legislate in ways contrary to RCC doctrine says more about the health of the church and her members than the elected officials who pass laws and or live lifestyles contrary to church teachings.

How this woman can even call herself a Christian is beyond me. She is pro abortion and pro homosexual rights. She ISN’T a Christian!

Any priest who gives her communion is just as corrupt as she is.

That's an awfully broad brush you so sloppily paint with, fatboy.

California Catholic Daily

This printable article is taken from www.calcatholic.com

A priest writes to Nancy Pelosi

“If you can kill a baby in the womb, Nancy, why not outside of it?”

Fr. John Malloy, pastor of Saints Peter and Paul Church in San Francisco, penned this “Open letter to Nancy Pelosi,” which was recently published in the parish bulletin. We reprint it here with Fr. Malloy’s permission.

Nancy, you are fooling yourself and I fear fooling many good Catholics. You are simply not in sync with the Catholic Church. Until you change your non-Catholic positions, you should stop calling yourself Catholic. Your record shows that you support embryonic stem cell research, Planned Parenthood, contraception, family planning funding, allowing minors to have an abortion without parental consent, and are against making it a crime to harm a fetus, etc. etc.

The fact that you favor married priests and women priests certainly would not classify you as conservative, but your answer to the question are you a conservative Catholic was:
“I think so. I was raised in a very strict upbringing in a Catholic home where we respected people, were observant, were practicing Catholics, and that the fundamental belief was that God gave us all a free will, and we were accountable for that, each of us. Each person had that accountability, so it wasn’t for us to make judgments about how people saw their responsibility and that it wasn’t for politicians to make decisions about how people led their personal lives; certainly, to a high moral standards, but when it got into decisions about privacy and all the rest, then that was something that individuals had to answer to God for, and not to politicians.”

That sounds fair and tolerant, but your record belies high moral standards.

The NARAL rates you 100% pro-abortion. Your statement: “To me it isn’t even a question. God has given us a free will. We’re all responsible for our actions. If you don’t want an abortion, you don’t believe in it, [then] don’t have one. But don’t tell somebody else what they can do in terms of honoring their responsibilities. My family is very pro-life. They’re not fanatics and they’re not activists. I think they’d like it if I were not so vocally pro-choice.”

Do we not elect politicians to make laws that help people honor their responsibilities, such as protecting life itself? Can politicians not tell someone else not to kill? If you can kill a baby in the womb, Nancy, why not outside of it? Oh wait, you are in favor of partial birth abortion, so-called because the baby sticks out of the “mother” about halfway, while the “doctor” sucks out the baby's brain. That seems comparable to the choice the Nazis made killing six million Jews.

Yes, Nancy, we (together with your pro-life family) would all like it if you were not so vocally pro-choice, i.e. pro-death. Until your choice is in line with Catholic doctrine, please, Nancy, do not receive the Eucharist when you attend Mass.

Rev. John Malloy, SDB
San Francisco, CA
