I still don’t see where this, or the other links, calls into question her qualification for the Sacrament of Communion.

Anyone who dares to defend that they may be legitimately killed because another human being chooses to do so or for any other equally ridiculous reason should not be providing leadership in a civilized democracy worthy of the name. That'll leave a mark....
Very nice.

“We are blessed in the 21st century with crystal-clear photographs and action films of the living realities within their pregnant mothers. No one with the slightest measure of integrity or honor could fail to know what these marvelous beings manifestly, clearly, and obviously are, as they smile and wave into the world outside the womb.”
You'd be surprised how I got my knuckles rapped on another thread for making that very same point (although in a somewhat plainer manner of speech). I'm positively delighted that someone of far greater eminence than I was able to see through Ms. Pelosi’s feeble argument and for the same reason as your humble servant.
To: NYer
A completely perfect response to the ignorant Ms. Pelosi.
I suspect that deep down, below all the plastic surgery, Ms. Pelosi knows the Cardinal is right.
To: NYer
In boxing terms, that’s a roundhouse right! And Pelosi hits the canvas!
Way to go, Cardinal Egan!

Well, I’d like to hear what the Speaker says in repsonse to that scolding from Cardinal Egan.
If she responds.
My God, my God, she is so stupid. Hard to imagine she is speaker of the House.

Catholic bishops are usually careful, especially when it comes to written statements, more especially when it comes to matters of politics so as to be seen above the fray. They tend to issue general opinions, and to single out Pelosi or anyone is uncommon. Yet the egregiousness of the Speaker’s comments was too much to ignore, and he definitely schooled her on this. Good job, Cardinal Egan!
To: NYer
Excellent, Cardinal Egan!
I wish that Archbishop Wuerl (part-time Catholic, full-time Democrat) had made a statement half as strong!

When you assume that she possesses integrity OR honor to any degree, I belive you assume far to much.

Unbelievable.
When you read this statement it becomes eminently clear why Christ chose the flawed, weak Peter to be the Rock upon which His Church would be built -- even though John was the apostle who was closest to Christ and whose faith never wavered even unto Calvary.
Sometimes a guy who impulsively grabs a sword and cuts off the ear of the high priest's servant is exactly what the world needs.

This Missouri Synod Lutheran is beaming with pride and appreciation of fellow Christian, Cardinal Egan.
His statement is in the spirit of "Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me. Amen."
