The leader of the American Life League says Catholic bishops in America missed a golden opportunity to enforce the law of the Catholic Church when it comes to abortion.
Cardinals and bishops continue to rebuke House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for attempting a theological defense of her support for abortion. Pelosi, a Catholic school graduate who has expressed pride in her religious heritage, said last Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press that "doctors of the church" have not been able to define when life begins.
Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik says Pelosi "completely misrepresented the teaching of the Catholic Church in regard to abortion." But American Life League (ALL) president Judie Brown says Catholic bishops dropped the ball.
"Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives for the United States of America, gave the Catholic bishops of America a golden opportunity to be forthright and to say that they would enforce Canon Law 915 and deny Holy Communion to pro-abortion Catholics like Pelosi," Brown explains. "The bishops failed, once again, to use this opportunity to teach the truth about what the [Catholic] Church teaches. I find this appalling."
From its earliest days, Christianity has considered abortion evil. The catechism of the Catholic Church declares, "This teaching has remained unchanged and remains unchangeable."
New York Cardinal Edward Egan says Pelosi and others who defend abortion "should not be providing leadership in a civilized democracy."
It is not just the evil of fake Catholics promoting abortion that needs to be stopped. The bishops have a duty to stop the sacrilege.
My guess is that his house is divided. We will see nowe if he has the guts he needs to be worthy of his office, or if he is just another trimmer.
On the one hand, it looks a bit cowardly for him to wait so long.
On the other hand, it will keep the issue alive, which is a good thing. Presumably she gets a pass THIS Sunday . . . :-(
I understand that the bishops want to be circumspect and good shepherds and all that stuff, but if you get right down to it Pelosi's soul is at stake, and that's a serious matter for a shepherd . . . .
**Presumably she gets a pass THIS Sunday . . .**
Not from our visiting priest this Sunday. He started and ended his homily with pro-life. Of course, he discoursed on the readings in between, but tied them all in to pro-life and us living that message in our world today.
Second dose for our parish. Two weeks ago, our deacon gave a strong, strong (and courageous for Oregon) homily on voting for life. God bless both these men abundantly.
And you're right -- it's tough to preach life in Oregon. But that's what they mean when they say the Church is not of the World.
Niederauer has probably never read either Canon Law or the Catechism before now.
All talk, no action.

Can somebody tell me why the Catholic Church doesn’t excommunicate anyone anymore?
Good for them.
