All prayer threads are not as volatile as the pray for obama one. Most are very gentle and full of love and compassion and understanding.

Well, you better be sitting down a moment Lisa because I have a word for you.

I pray for our enemies every single day.
I pray that God will soften their hearts.
I pray that they will turn away from their wicked ways.
I pray in Jesus’ Holy Name.Amen.

I pray for our troops every single day.
I pray that God will protect them and guide them
and bring them home safely.
I pray for the troops’ family.
I pray in Jesus’ Holy Name. Amen.

If I can pray for the bad guys, and pray for the good guys;
I most certainly CAN AND DO pray for Obama.
I pray in Jesus’ Holy Name. Amen.

Now, that’s that.
There is no debate.

Funny, you don’t seem to have a problem expressing your opinion, you just don’t like to have rules as to respecting another person’s prayer... hmmmm...

As “Blogger” I originally stated that I would not post abuse on the thread unless it broke the key rules of Free Republic - being NO profanity, No personal attacks, No racism or violence in posts. The fact that it is a prayer thread also adds the religion forum rules to that list. I myself am living within those rules and not answering some of the posts which have come in. When I have, my own comments have been yanked because they violated the rules. The Religion forum rules apply to everyone.

No, Blogger — it’s the word “President”. That word is what shocked me when I saw the headline of your post. I have seen the word “Obama” a thousand times on many threads.

This is the same people that went around claiming the polls are wrong...the polls are wrong...wringing their collective hands and then all agreeing that McCain would eke out a win or that Sarah would cause a landslide for them....FACE IT! IT IS
P R E S I D E N T   -  E L E C T     O B A M A ! ! !
No amount of denial will change that...EVER.

Now is there much that can be done from prayer on bended knee, to open debate to actual ACTION!!! YES! But posting constantly that you don't want him to be our President will NOT change it, nor will it help to prevent a similar problem in 2012. ACTION will.

I have no illusions that I could protect myself against a government takeover, if they were so willed. But, if for no other reason than there are going to be a lot of folks out of a job and crime is going to soar, that is good advice.

I'm not as worried about the takeover as I am about what is going to happen to us Fundamentalist Jesus Freaks under an atheistic-Sodomistic-deviant-occultic Nazi regime that worships at the altar of Molech.

The Jews were easy targets in the 1930's because they were effectively defenseless. If Christian fundamentalists are armed to the teeth and the Brown Shirt Conscripted Civilian Army that Obama is proposing comes into being, then they are going to think twice about rounding us up and putting us into Bill Ayers' re-education camps.

"From my cold dead hands".

The presence of an armed populace is a clear deterrent to tyranny.

But, as the one who originally started the Pray for Bush thread in 1999 (under a different ID), I can state we have had our share of divisive comments. I also had the prayforgeorgewbush.com website and had an open email at the time. Twice, I had to call the secret service because of threats made against President Bush. You wouldn’t think prayer could be divisive, but you might be surprised!

Hmmmmmm.

Imagine that.

I suppose if someone doesn't want their personal info put on the 'net, one shouldn't put their personal info on the 'net.

I'm just sayin'.

I suspect you’ve already been told many times . . .

The Religion forum has been and remains the most troublesome-to-moderate forum on FR.

THANKFULLY,

The current Religion Moderator has the wisdom of Holy Spirit sufficiently to categorize a number of types of threads on the religion forum in ways that protect their unique purposes without letting them be destroyed by contentiousness and folks who have no real interest in healthy discussion.

Thankfully—VERY THANKFULLY—

PRAYER THREADS and
CAUCUS THREADS

are two such threads.

It’s nice to have threads focus on PRAYER! Withtout other kinds of blather and particularly without contentiousness. THE PURPOSE OF THE THREADS IS TO PRAY. Which word is hard to understand?

Caucus threads allow folks of a given group to have a closed group FAMILY DISCUSSION. The notion of FAMILY is dear to conservatives’ hearts and this is a particularly fitting and supportive of the different religious families resident on FR.

No need to get haughty and in a lather about it.

It’s a stroke of Holy Spirit genius through the current RM that has made the religion forum a much healthier and far, far more productive-to-Christ’s-body part of FR than it has ever been before.

I suggest you get used to the wonderful improvements and cooperate with them or stay out of the religion forum. THIS SETUP IS FAR, FAR, FAR BETTER.

What caught my eye was, the "no debate allowed". That is the thing that has frightened me from the time I researched this man who is now the president-elect. As a Christian, I am do not recognize him as my president, as I feel that he may suppress our voices, through legislation .

I understand Lisa and it is scary the persuasive brain washing this man is capable of (media assisted of course!). One way to possibly look at praying for him may be as we are asked to pray for people we resent or hate or have anger and unforgiveness for. It is really a loving action between ourselves and God and a healing there. Even if the person is a devil of some sort and we stay attentive as you have mentioned in critical and I agree, we also pray for God's interventionist power in Obama's life and decision making even though it may be led by evil--prayer can have power to intervene. If it does not intervene on Him then we are healed and clear minded and strong enough to fight back his evil as we have divorced ourselves from the chain of anger and resentment and are God's warrior fighting not only with earthly action but for God's intervention on such evil intentions. I hope I have been clear.

I know you are very concerned regarding Obama and I respect and feel the same, but I do want to explain how I see the prayer thread regarding him and its advantages if not for him (or more specifically our country), but for us in having asking for Godly intervention if not in our world in all that has to do with Obama, in our souls that remain strong and unstained by hate and resentment towards him and his minions.

Poor Brenda...you are wrong. See if this thread or website offends you...GO AWAY! You are the same as people who say watching MSNBC offends them and they constantly post about the offenses...CHANGE THE CHANNEL! No one is making you come here and certainly no one wants your whining comments about prayer threads. This is a communication forum and sharing your prayers by typing them is no different from going to a prayer meeting and praying out loud so others hear your prayer. If you don’t like this...then please leave and find a forum you like or hey...try starting one on your own...might I suggest www.BrendasNoPrayerThreads.com for you?

This world is a test by the Lord to resist evil

And how does Christ tell us to?

Matt 5:43-44
You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.

Luke 18:1-10
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' "For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!' " And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"

—Luke 6:27-35
“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

It is easy to curse your enemies, that is animal nature. It is difficult to pray for your enemies, that their hearts will change, that is spiritual nature.

THERE’S NO SUPPRESSION.

Which word do you not understand?

Saying that family debates must take place in the family room instead of the kitchen

is NOT suppression of voices nor views!

SHEESH!

I have heard on several occasions Janet Parshall on her Janet Parshall's America radio program remind us that we are called upon by our Lord to pray for our leaders.

I have heard Mike Gallagher talking with Hollywood screenwriter Joe Eszterhas about his conversion.

I have seen the story of Saul and Paul and the Road to Damascus.

I am ready to accept that we will do many courageous things and we will pass through this valley of the shadow of death as always because we will know when to act and when to pray.

There is an appropriate outlet for action and for prayer, and need be no conflation of the two.

There are different rules in the religion forum for certain types of threads.

Devotional and prayer threads, and this thread is one of those, are designated for that purpose. It is viewed as if you are in a room and people are praying.

However, you are more than free to post a debate-Obama thread on the religion forum.
