Prayer thread ^

This thread is incredible to me! I am a Christian, but Christians LOVE debate. What is going on here?

“The wrath of God will be upon us, guaranteed. The pray for peace thing is over. It is time to stand up against evil. I will never pray for him, or agree with anyone who prays for him. His dye is cast. He is who he is, and none of it is good. I am embarrassed of this country now, and anyone who supports him in any way. I have not seen one sign that this being has good intentions for anyone except himself.

I see clearly who he is.”

Oh please. It’s one thread. ONE. There are about a gazillion other threads where you can voice your opinion freely and openly.

I don’t participate in the prayer threads, but I did go have a look at it, and if you observe the nature of the prayers you’ll see that they’re petitioning for the damage to our country to be minimal, and that Obama might find some wisdom. I would think that if there’s a time to pray, it’s now, don’tcha think?

I’m not fighting the prayer thread, but do they have to say President Obama? He is not my president and never will be and I will never give him that respect. So why can’t they just pray for Barack Hussein Obama?

It’s the words President Obama that are ticking most people off.

The first time I saw his name with that title in print, I experienced quite an unsettling feeling in my gut.

It was a very rude awakening as to the ugly reality of the situation.

Jesus simply said we need to pray for our enemies. He didn't tell us what to pray for, only that we pray for them.

My own personal prayer is that God changes BO's heart. I don't think it is possible, but with God all things are possible. God changed Nebuchadnezzar's heart. Obama and Nebuchadnezzar both seem to have the same personality disorders.

It's possible. Not bloody likely, but possible. It's worth a try.

Ditto that. Feelings are the same, but I still hope in the Lord. It all depends where we are are far as his well of mercy is at. Have we drawn the last drop? Not sure.

Actually, I think it is the word Obama. The Freepers have never seemed to have trouble praying for the President before.

Pray for the country, pray for its leaders, pray for Obama (ugh), buy a gun and plenty of ammunition, stock up on dry goods and water. Hope for the best. Plan for the worst.

Here is today’s prayer as offered by Blogger:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2130508/posts#1

Dear Heavenly Father, A new week has begun with a whole new set of challenges. President-Elect Obama has met with President Bush and is becoming even more aware of the dangers and problems facing this nation. I pray that his eyes are opening and his heart is softening. He will need Your help, and You will provide - if he but seek You first.

Various rumors and confirmations have been floating about regarding the members of his cabinet. From what we have seen thus far, he will be the far left President that we anticipated he would be. Various policy ideas on everything from Embryonic stem cells to the second amendment are also making their way to the news cycle. Looking at these things, I can but shake my head and ask, What has America done? Lord, this land of the free and home of the brave has become the land of the willingly bound and cowardly. Rather than stand against evil, our people have first allowed it to exist side by side with them. Then, they allowed it a stronger voice. Now it is their master. Right and wrong are topsy turvy in the America of today. It isn’t a Democrat thing. It isn’t a Republican thing. It is an American thing - symptomatic of a nation that has seriously lost its way and is plunging into Oblivion. Save us, Lord, if we can be saved.

Lord, we lift up President-Elect Obama. He has been surrounded for years by radicals who do not honor You but use religion, when they express it, as a means to an end. Whether it is black liberation, or humanistic superiority, the preachers of hate that have been this man’s companions have not preached a true gospel and even Obama’s pastor says the way they define Christianity is not the same way that we do - the way the Bible does. Lord, we know that in Your sight there is no race or gender or economic status - for You do not respect a king any more than you do a pauper. Your truth is life and is exactly what these folks are looking for if they would but turn to You. And yet, for now, their eyes are focussed on power. We ask that for President Elect Obama you break his concentration towards the goals that will only mean judgment to this nation. Lord, shake him up personally so that he begins to question - and then at that moment of opportunity use whatever circumstances that You will to make Your way into his heart. We need a saved President, Lord. No man can do that job without You as his guide. Save President-Elect Obama and cause him to repent of that which displeases You.

Forgive our nation, Lord. Forgive Your people. We have been wrong before You and we deserve what we are seeing now. Only in Your wrath, remember mercy.

Lord, if it is not in Your plan to do a supernatural work to draw this man to Yourself, if his heart is so inclined against You as to have been reprobated; we pray for Your protection from the evil which is to come. That’s all we know to do. The rest is in Your omnipotent hands.

Lord, I thank You for our military. On this day where we remember the sacrifices which they have made to preserve our freedom; we pray Lord, that this nation will not ultimately make them ashamed.

Go with us, the rest of this day and throughout tomorrow, Lord. Help us to stand for Your truth without fail. And hold us close to You, for we are fearful of what lies ahead. For it is in the precious name of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that I pray these things, Amen.

Amen.

I can’t fault or argue with any of it.

I have no illusions that I could protect myself against a government takeover, if they were so willed. But, if for no other reason than there are going to be a lot of folks out of a job and crime is going to soar, that is good advice.

No, Blogger — it’s the word “President”. That word is what shocked me when I saw the headline of your post. I have seen the word “Obama” a thousand times on many threads.

I posted an innocuous comment over there that was immediately deleted, and I was told that I broke the No Debate rule. That was all nonsense, but now I at least know not to visit the prayer threads.

What I still don't understand is why folks post internet prayers to God rather than just, y'know, pray to Him.

The poster, “Blogger”, could just as easily title those threads, simply, “Pray for Our Nation - Day (x)”, but “Blogger” knows full well that many freepers find the title offensive - - a public request to pray for an atheist, steaming pantload like 0bama? Right... But Blogger apparently enjoys shoving a stick in your eye, and revels in the attention.

I recommend just ignoring those threads. Pretty soon you won’t even notice them. Under no circumstances would I post to them and thereby bump them.

FRegards,
LH

Why pray publically in church. It is so that people who are in agreement about a certain prayer can get together and pray about it. We do it in typeface. Others do it vocally. It is expected that we do it privately as well.

We’ve had prayer threads on this forum for years on which we ask our posters to be respectful. A prayer thread is no place for the rough and tumble political debate.

I'm familiar. One was for my late Daddy, which I started. It got me through some very rough times.

However, this is different. Had I stated that my Daddy was a FDR Democrat (which he was), and if someone wanted to debate me on that subject, I would have done so. At the end of the day, Jim, I'm just saying that no voice should be suppressed.

As I've stated on this website many, many times, this place has been a respite for me. I met the love of my life (Common Tator) here. I've urged many of my friends to join, and to contribute monetarily. And they have. Alot.

I have no urge to post on the "pray for Obama" website, or cause any trouble.

What caught my eye was, the "no debate allowed". That is the thing that has frightened me from the time I researched this man who is now the president-elect. As a Christian, I am do not recognize him as my president, as I feel that he may suppress our voices, through legislation .

This is your site, and you can do whatever you want. But to silence ones voice, nomatter what room or thread....that's the last thing I expected from this website.

Thanks for listening, Lisa

Lisa_from Buckeye Country with all due respect, it is not that you can't debate every last detail regarding Obama on this site, but on prayer threads they are strictly for praying as people kneeling in pews praying in church out loud. It is not the time for someone to storm through and start listing all the reasons this person is screwed up and even a threat. it does not mean that you are being silenced, it is just not the forum for it.

There are PLENTY of threads on FR to debate and discuss every fine point about Obama, but prayer threads pray for people. Even God wants every last person on earth to find Him. It is a time and place for prayer only. Please do not give this any more credence of power than it has. It is simply not a debate forum pure and simple.

Do you want someone coming into your private prayer time, interrupting, and voicing their opinion to you about your prayer?

Those threads are a special granted place, within this private website, where people offer a prayer.

There are tens of thousands of other threads you can voice your opinion on, just like this one you created.

Don’t go interrupting someone else’s prayer just as you wouldn’t want them interrupting your’s.
