To the disruptors who would interupt the thread with complaints. Read the prayer first. Meditate upon what we are saying. And hold your peace on this thread, please. If you have a prayer to add, and it isn't meant in sarcasm, join us. Our nation is in trouble. We need to pray. Please don't join the evil ones who would interupt that right.

Then they brought these men before the king. 14Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? 15Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? 16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. 17If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 18But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

Dear Heavenly Father, As I woke up today and signed online, I was greeted by the news that the stimulus plan has a provision in it that attacks the religious freedom of students on school campuses. It appears that our fears regarding persecution in this country are already starting, and my feelings are mixed regarding this prayer. On the one hand, I want you to get them. I want you to destroy any politician that would dare overstep to steal the freedoms which You have endowed this nation with - the freedoms that my forefathers bled and died for. On the other hand, I see it as a test for the church. How will we respond. Persecution tends to refocus folks. Those who are truly Your servants will be drawn even closer to You. Those who are not will be sifted out. So, my prayer is this...

First, may these politicians change their minds and get their hearts right before You. May this occur all of the way from the Obama family (and I include Michelle as I believe she is influencial) to the staff page working for this most junior of congressman or woman. May they realize that what they are doing, what they are promoting is an offense to You and may they repent in fear and trembling. May they turn their eyes towards You, and seek Your ways. May something beautiful occur out of the ugliness that a bunch of ignorant folks foisted upon this nation. May we truly be a Godly nation from the Whitehouse to the churchhouse. And may Your name be exalted in this land.

Second, may the church get her act together. No more of the watered down, dumbed down, its all about you sermons. May those preachers be cast from their pulpits and their wandering sheep find churches that preache the truth. No more of using the pulpit as a tool to promote things which You call an abomination. May those pastors and the parishioners that embrace them come face to face with You and realize in comparison to Your splendor they are nothing. May they repent. May the churches that exalt any may, be he a Pope or a preacher man, above You be convicted to turn from their idolatry and seek Your face. And may this nation witness a spiritual awakening unlike any other in our history. Our hearts tell us that the nation is in deep trouble. She is threatening to become a corpse. But, our faith knows that You specialize in raising the dead - and so we pray that You would act in our nation. Revive her. Awaken her. And claim her for Your own again. Evil is tightening its grip around her. Break evil's fist.

Finally, I pray that if persecution does come, that You would strengthen Your children and allow them to stand. Personally, I know I have been spoiled. I live in a beautiful home in a beautiful setting and have a very peaceful existence. What happens if that is threatened or taken away? Lord, I want to be able to stand. I do not want to let You down. I want my faith and wits to be firm. Rid me of any doubtful habit and any sin which so often besets me. Revive my heart. Help me to see the forest beyond the trees. Help me to be a good Christian soldier for You. Give me wisdom and give your children wisdom as to how to handle this situation. Some are fighting mad. Some cower. We want to handle the situation as You would have us to handle it, and not take things into our hands, but place it in Your hands and allow You to use us as You would wish to use us. Be our help and our shield Lord in these dark and gloomy days.

For it is in the name of the Almighty God, the everlasting father, the Prince of peace, the Wonderful counselor, the King of kings and Lord of lords that I pray all of these things, the name of Christ my Savior, Amen.

In C. S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the White Witch needed to know only one thing about Edmund to get him to betray his siblings. By asking a few simple questions, the witch learned that Edmund’s weakness was his love for a candy called Turkish Delight. The piece she gave to Edmund was more delicious than anything he had ever tasted. Soon Edmund could think only about “trying to shovel down as much Turkish Delight as he could, and the more he ate the more he wanted.”

Each of us has a vulnerability like Edmund’s that Satan is eager to exploit. It may be something addictive like drugs or alcohol, or it may be something seemingly harmless and perhaps even good like food, friendship, or work.

After His resurrection, Jesus asked Peter this personal and probing question: “Do you love Me more than these?” (John 21:15). Many have speculated as to what Jesus meant by the word “these,” but it’s probably better that we don’t know. It allows each of us to personalize the question and ask ourselves, “What do I love more than Jesus?”

When Satan finds out what we love more than God, he knows how to manipulate us. But he loses his power over us when we delight in the Lord.

God takes delight in us—how can we help but delight in Him?

We started the night of the election, but have missed 9 days along the way. Not sure where they went but since I am the only one who posts, sometimes I post the thread rather late and the days overlap.

I am not able yet to pray in a loving way for Obama and his minions.

I also realize that whether or not I have the personal strength to do so, it is what I am supposed to do as a Christian. And, as James reminds (James 4:17): “... to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.”

Therefore, in my bitterness about Obama, and my wish for him to utterly fail, I am sinning. So I am working on it. Sadly, without much success so far. But I will keep trying and praying for strength.

Wasn't Saul originally in a similar situation when he persecuted early Christians? Yet even so, God would forgive Obama's evil actions upon his true repentance--our God is an Awesome God! :*) I just pray that God allows the scales on Obama's eyes to be removed so that he can see the evil that is being perpetuated by him, and around him, and let him turn 180 degrees and become the best President this nation has ever had!

Lord, may Your mercy turn what we perceive as evil into good for Your Glory. Continue to keep and protect us in the shadow of Your wing. May we walk, only following You.

I certainly do not take your struggle lightly, and understand exactly where it is coming from. In your own strength, you won’t be able to succeed. But, look at it this way. The God of the Universe is sovereign over everything we see. He can say yes or no to our prayers even, in accordance with His ultimate will and plan. I have not been able to get to the point to ‘love my enemies’ as Christ asked us to do. Early on, I thought maybe I could separate the humanity of Obama from the political monster - but they appear to be one in the same, so it is tough. Still, out of obedience, I pray for him, even when I don’t feel like it. I do not pray for his agenda to succeed. I pray for its failure. But I pray the only blessing for him that could make a difference in his and the world’s life - that he would come to know the Savior. Short of that, I don’t believe we are commanded to pray for one ounce of success for him - for that indeed would be praying for the promotion of evil. He is an arrogant, carnal-minded, antiChrist (not at all saying he is THE AntiChrist, but that his actions are antiChrist). But, as long as he hasn’t been revealed as THE “one”, he is a human being with a finite heart and finite power and can be changed by the power of God. The AntiChrist will be too, except we know that changing his heart is not within God’s will.

NervousTick, you have taken the first step by acknowledging God's will for you. From my own experience, when I am faced with a self that incapable of doing what God wants me to do, I go before Him and acknowledge His will for me. I confess my shortcomings. And I give Him permission to do in me what I cannot do myself. Basically, I offer all of myself to Him - the good and bad - and ask that He do with me what He wills. Above all, I declare my trust in Him. That's what it's all about - trust.

I pray that He reveals His destiny to you and that you are blessed over and above as a testament of His love for you. Never forget the height and depth of His love. Amen.
