Wednesday March 11, 2009Bishop: "President Obama is forcing all American taxpayers to pay for this homicidal research"
By John-Henry Westen PHOENIX, March 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Bishop of Phoenix in Arizona has written a straight-talking column responding to President Barack Obama's executive order providing federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. "This means that American taxpayers will now be paying for the killing of human beings at a very early stage in their lives (as embryos), so that scientific research can make use of them for experiments that may or may not yield positive results," writes Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted in his diocesan newspaper, the Catholic Sun. Unwilling to sugar-coat the reality with polite euphemisms, Bishop Olmsted says, "We U.S. taxpayers will now be forced to pay, whether we wish to or not, for the killing of our youngest brothers and sisters on the dubious hypothesis that their murders might, in the future, benefit others." "What President Obama is doing is forcing all American taxpayers to pay for this homicidal research," he said. The Bishop offers five ways in which Catholics should respond to the President's action. "First, we must beg forgiveness for this horrendous sin of our nation," he says. "Second, we Catholics must join with others of good will and make our voices heard across our land, at the White House, on Capitol Hill, in our state Legislatures and in the media. We must not stand by idly while our neighbor's life is at stake. The dignity of a human person does not depend upon his or her age, developmental stage, or ability to function." Bishop: “President Obama is forcing all American taxpayers to pay for this homicidal research”
And Almighty God is going to hold Obama accountable personally. Things between Obama and our Lord are going to get real heated up and Obama will lose badly and in the most humiliating way possible.
Good for him! I hope all the RC bishops get more intestinal fortitude. This will not be effective unless all of them stand united against this decision.
The liberals are testing the Christian community by pushing one immoral law after the other. If we do not stand united, they will move onto the next target. Eventually we will all lose our religious rights of conscience as well as the right to worship.
I'm not Catholic, but I admire this man for his courage. For too long those that should've been leading the opposition to abortion, including the so-called leaders in my church, have remained silent because they lacked the intestinal fortitude to "buck the system" or stand up to political correctness.
I have a genuine question, since I generally am in favor of any scientific research: Are you against IVF on general principles because an excessive number of embryos are almost always created?
It’s too bad so many of my fellow “Catholics” voted for The One despite what they knew about his anti-life record. Unless and until the bishops start cleaning house, beginning with the public excommunication of pro-abort politicians who wear a “Catholic” badge when it suits them, this is going to continue.
Remember, if you will, the rigorous, scientifically accurate AND immoral, sick, and disgusting Nazi experiments on human beings. The Japanese had a special divison that did biological and other experiments on human beings during WWII, as well (freezing people's limbs, shattering them, and studying the results - sick; that's just one example). None of it was justified, even if "scientific." The relative weakness and small size of the little baby doesn't change the fact that it's the murder and exploitation of a living human being.
Science cannot and should not be divorced from the sanctity of human life. It's one thing if a rescuer voluntarily gives his or her life to save another. You can't force a baby to forfeit theirs, with no voice, and justify it under any circumstances.
I guess, though, if you believe there is no God who will be highly offended by such behaviour, Obama has nothing to worry about, eh?

“”..(Man) must not be allowed to put out his hand to take fruit from the tree of life...”
Gen. 3:22
Our poor nation.
The President is a marxist crypto-muslim.
By the way, what CHRISTIAN CHURCH did the THIEF IN CHIEF attend last Sunday?
I mean, we all knew he was going to steal everything in sight once he got to the White House, but 2 TRILLION DOLLARS and murdering embryos?.
Jesus save us.
Heres your buddy troll.
He ought to stop killing babies and praying to muhammed.
If a majority of Catholics had not voted for Obama ...
The Bishop is of course correct here.
Let us pray for those who are killed in this way. And pray also for the salvation of ourselves, for Obama and for the salvation of all.
It not only allowed for further use of embryonic stem cells, but did not rule out harvesting of embryonic stem cells for experimentation.
He also revoked federal funding to certain forms of adult stem cell research.
We are in a battle for the soul of our country.
Yes, I am against IVF because it is totally unnatural, and seems to me to treat human embryos as a commodity. The idea that humans can be created in a petri dish seems inhumane to me, and against all natural law. Just because it is possible to do IVF, does not make it a morally justified act. Just my humble opinion.
Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted bump!
Now the fourth bishop to speak out. Whehre are the rest?
