Whenever I grab a book to read and sit on the couch, I can always count on my dog to come over and jump up and settle next to me. Just about the time I kick back to relax she lays her head on my lap and gives me that look. Oh how good she is at letting me know what she wants. It is something that will inevitably lull her into a calm relaxed state of mind until I think she has fallen asleep, that is, until I stop pampering her and pick my book to start reading. That's when she pushes her head towards me as she attempts to take my mind off my reading again. Oh, I'll usually indulge her for a bit longer, but if I really want to read my book, I just have to ignore her until she gets bored. Eventually she gets the message and gets down off the couch to go find someone else to scratch those itchy ears.
Now this article is not really about dogs, and it is not about the dermatological problems with their ears. What it is about, is the way humans, like dogs, are always looking for someone to satisfy their needs.

I learned all I needed to know about Tony Campolo when I saw him spewing profanities (according to a lip reader hired by Rush Limbaugh) with Bill Clinton after the Ron Brown funeral.
Also, in one of his books, which I checked out at Barnes and Noble, Campolo asks When does a baby become a “person.”
His answer: Genesis says that God breathed “the breath of life” into Adam. Therefore, a baby isn’t alive until it draws its first breath.
I have known ever since reading that bit of sophistical Scripture-rape that Tony Campolo is a minister of Satan, not God.

OneVike, thanks for the ping.
There are a number of people who are caught up in the "gospel of prosperity" which from my readings seems to have its origins and largest number of adherents in the American West and Southwest.
Some years ago I knew someone who was a devout follower of Osteen, Hagin, and Copeland. Her emphasis was on "confession" of "prosperity" -- that is, speaking what she wanted into being; she believed that God had empowered her to create her own world with her words. A mother of three, with an estranged husband whom she had put through medical school while neglecting her own career and education, she ended up divorced. I do not know what became of her.
There was a book published around that time called "The Wall Street Gospel" which warned about the "prosperity" preachers. I believe it is out of print. I saw a title by that name (author is Joe Magliato, published 1981, this is the right time frame) on Amazon.com.
Yes, that's the book.
For an interesting discussion (I saw the book mentioned in a bibliography at this link), see
