How Old Is Your Church?

If you are a Lutheran, your religion was founded by Martin Luther, an ex- monk of the Catholic Church, in the year 1517.

If you belong to the Church of England, your religion was founded by King Henry VIII in the year 1534 because the Pope would not grant him a divorce with the right to remarry.

If you are a Presbyterian, your religion was founded by John Knox in Scotland in the year 1560.

If you are a Protestant Episcopalian, your religion was an offshoot of the Church of England founded by Samuel Seabury in the American colonies in the 17th century.

If you are a Congregationalist, your religion was originated by Robert Brown in Holland in 1582.

If you are a Methodist, your religion was launched by John and Charles Wesley in England in 1744.

If you are a Unitarian, Theophilus Lindley founded your church in London in 1774.

If you are a Mormon (Latter Day Saints), Joseph Smith started your religion in Palmyra, N.Y., in 1829.

If you are a Baptist, you owe the tenets of your religion to John Smyth, who launched it in Amsterdam in 1605.

If you are of the Dutch Reformed church, you recognize Michaelis Jones as founder, because he originated your religion in New York in 1628.

If you worship with the Salvation Army, your sect began with William Booth in London in 1865.

If you are a Christian Scientist, you look to 1879 as the year in which your religion was born and to Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy as its founder.

If you belong to one of the religious organizations known as 'Church of the Nazarene," "Pentecostal Gospel." "Holiness Church," "Pilgrim Holiness Church," "Jehovah's Witnesses," your religion is one of the hundreds of new sects founded by men within the past century.

If you are Catholic, you know that your religion was founded in the year 33 by Jesus Christ the Son of God, and it is still the same Church.

What matters is succession in the apostolic DOCTRINE and in practice that accords with it. (See Acts 2:42.)

I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. And as a Lutheran pastor, I have no doubts about my ordination.

I’m not trying to convince anyone. Only educate them.

Only educate them.

Then they can make their own decisions.

How can you be a Lutheran pastor? I just read that “All the breakaway sects that came have decayed and withered away.”

First of all, there wasn’t any Roman Catholic Churches in 33 A.D.

The mistake you make is calling it the Roman Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church was founded by Christ, circa AD 33.

If you wish to educate, you need to learn first. Saying, “We consider you heretics, and that proves it is so” doesn’t quite qualify.

The AnaBaptists...

Meaning to rebaptise...

First time as babies with Christening...

and then full dunking as adults and believers...

The AnaBaptists were around before Luther...

Plus some other groups..

While Christ is the head of the church...

Yes! The Catholic Church.

...man-created organizations like the RCC run by falable men...

Perhaps the RCC is, but the head of the Catholic Church is Christ.

...and no one church has a monopoly on the truth.

Christ promised differently.

Read Foxes Book of Martyrs.

Or, read a non-biased, factual, authentic history book.

“Yup, it made mistakes — but as a community formed by Christ himself, it survived that just like it’s survived other things in 2000 years. There were earlier reforms done remember st. Francis? The fact that The Church survives DESPITE some really wrong people at the helm indicates that it has God’s favor. All the breakaway sects that came have decayed and withered away.”

Speaking of St Francis - St Frances De Sales wrote:

“Tertullian excellently says: (3) “Error is a corruption of truth, truth then must precede.” The good seed is sown first, the enemy who oversows cockle comes afterwards. Moses was before Abiron, Dathan, and Core; the Angels were before the devils; Lucifer stood in the light before he fell into the eternal darkness; the privation must follow the form. S. John says of heretics (I Ep. xix. 19): They went out from us; they were then within before they went out; the going out is heresy, the being within is fidelity; the Church then precedes heresy. So the coat of Our Lord was made whole before it was divided. And although Ismael was before Isaac, that does not signify that error was before truth, but that the true shadow, Judaism, was before the body, Christianity, as S. Paul says (Gal. iv.) - S. Francis De Sales -

Catholic Church has more than one definition.

Roman Catholic specifies what is meant. And repeating a claim (”The Catholic Church was founded by Christ, circa AD 33”) does not prove it.

...So-called "apostolic succession" does not make a true church; faithfulness to Christ's commands does.

A distinction without a difference, as "apostolic succession" in the True Church is what guarantees faithfulness to Christ's commands. Not Luther's or Cauvin's or Hubbard's.

Christ's commands.

Like Christ’s command to charge for indulgences...or to require good deeds to make up for bad ones.

No, Roman Catholicism wasn’t founded in 33 AD. Roman Catholicism was founded much later, in ... ROME.

The Church that Christ founded was founded in 33 AD, and includes all His followers, not just those who consider Rome its center.

Man, I hate those who diminish Christ in their efforts to promote their particular denomination. May Christ increase; may Rome decrease.

The Reformation was as much political as it was religious, remember.

Don't forget financial!

All those monks' properties to plunder.

Roman Catholic specifies what is meant.

It does not refer to me or the Catholic Church as a whole, it refers to Catholics from Rome.
