Off topic, but wifey and I drove through Meridian about a month ago on our way into Butler, AL.....pretty wooded country.

Our only previous MS experience had been the gulf coast, but we wanted to go to the little town where my recently departed mom had grown up...true "Deep South"; loved it all.

That was a very nice thing to say!
Thank you so much.

The drive from Meridian to Butler is very pretty.

I’m glad you enjoyed yourself, and hope you got some good eats while you were there.

Unfortunately, our eats had to wait until a DQ in Jackson, Alabama.....but it was good; we don't have many of those here in California - but were impressed. On our trip we'd made it a priority to "go local" but the crappy weather that particular day didn't cooperate.

Dad died a year and a half ago (age 94), and Mom (on the berge of 88) followed him 18 months to the day -- so we felt it was time to pay them this little homage.

Comforting to know the old folks had such beautiful surroundings during their early years. We'll miss them both.

Wifey hails from Minnesota, but over the years she's come to share my love of the south, and all things "Southern". In the area, we both felt like we were "home"............something that New Yorkers and most Californians would be mystfied by.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve lost both parents.
Your mother must have passed very recently.
My sincere condolences to you and yours.
I lost my daddy about 2.5 years ago, and it’s not fun at all.

I’m glad you were able to see where they grew up.
A place can tell one a lot about another person.
Knowing them as well as you did, I think it was a great trip to make.

It makes me happy that you and your wife enjoy the south.
We’re not feeling the love very much lately from the Republican party.
In fact, I recently left the party.
An attack on Sarah Palin is an attack on me.
I voted for her last fall, and McCain just happened to benefit from that vote.

You don’t have many DQs in CA?
That’s too bad because their food is very good even if it would save time to apply it directly to your thighs. ;o)

Do you have any Sonics?
Del Tacos?

I discovered del Taco during a business trip with my husband to Palm Springs.
We loved it so much that we ended up renting a car just so we could get a snack there every day!
