...The Joseph Smith Papers, Revelations and Translations, Volume 1: Manuscript Revelation Books will be in bookstores on Sept. 22. It is the second book to be released in the anticipated 30-volume comprehensive scholarly set that will cover more than 2,000 documents in the Prophet's personal papers.
Of necessity, the latest volume is larger and more expensive than the others. This is because it contains a full-color photo image of each page of two important manuscript collections produced by the Prophet and his scribes: the Book of Commandments and Revelations and the Kirtland Revelation Book.
"Coupling them together, we're presenting one of the most important collections of revelation manuscripts that the Church owns," said Robin S. Jensen, a member of the Church History Department staff..."As painful as it is for me to say as a historian, not all members are interested in the history of the Church," he said.

Comparing the manuscripts to the published revelations, one soon notices numerous changes.
"I don't think there should be a concern about that," Brother Jensen said. "One of the tenets of Mormonism, then and now, is continual revelation." He added, concerning the written revelations, "These were living, breathing documents to Joseph Smith and to others."
He contrasted present-day mentality with attitudes in the early days of the Church, when revelations were often updated to conform to newly understood doctrine and changes in Church administrative structure. For example, a revelation that referred to the "leading elder" might be updated to refer to the presiding high priest.
Other changes, he said, might involve corrections in grammar, spelling, punctuation or capitalization. "I don't have a problem with that," he said.

Which means, properly "translated," is that unknown D&C editors could make changes again, willy nilly -- and you won't -- without doing your own painstaking comparisons -- know...
...what was original to Smith;
...what was second-generation Smith acting as "editor" of the Mormon god's so-called "revelations"
...what was added by later generations of unnamed Mormon editors, etc.
All Lds "scripture editors" need to do is to go on an editing binge -- and presto, even more changes will be forthcoming!
Kinda like NIV and all the other permutations. I tend to stick with KJV and call it done.
The only reason the NIV exists is because it is a translation into more modern English with slightly different source manuscripts.
And ANYONE has access to the manuscripts used by the NIV, NASB or KJV or NKJV versions of our Bibles.
On the other hand ... who has the source material for the Book of Mormon so that we can check the translation?
You or I can learn Koine Greek (I am actually learning it now) and read the entire New Testament in Greek.

With Bible versions, translators review the original Hebrew & Greek...and come to slightly different conclusions on secondary issues...
With the Book of Mormon Lds have an English "translation" already, they don't have the original gold plates. (So there's no need to make a new "translation")
And D&C wasn't written in anything other than English. (Why would they need to "re-translate" English into English??? Same question for Smith's re-editing of the KJ Bible...Smith didn't know Hebrew or Greek...how could he "translate" anything new & add new original text that never existed in the Bible?)

Joseph Smith’s god told him about a lot of things that are blatently false. There are no elephants, horses, iron weapons in North America. Mormons won’t talk to you about that. Mormon’s wont talk about Smith or Brigham Young being involved in the murder of innocent settlers coming into Utah, it almost cost Utah its statehood.
Mormonism is a cult with really nice members. They don’t smoke or take caffeine and think that they’ll be gods as well when they get to whatever level of heaven they are fortunate to reach...I could go on and on, but it’s a fantasy land filled with lovely people that are all unfortunately going to hell.
But what a nice trip it will be for those polite little people that are members.
Which explains the dearth of new revelation since Brigham Young's day. You'd think the LDS would have issued four or five volumes of D&C-sized, confirmed revealed information by now.
At least in the beginning Mormonism was nothing but a money grubbing cult full of con men!

...to see ONLY a few lds "scriptural" NEW passages come onboard these past 165 years...

Be careful, the lexicons out there were written by apostates using pagan references and then copy off of each others lexicons.
Modern versions of the Bible have been made from the corrupt Alexandrian sources also.
So 100% of the historical /learned resources about the NT and NT languages made in the last 2000 years were all done by corrupt apostates....

The lexicons of the past 200 years are a recent development. The lexicons of the 19th century are copied by the modern ones used today. Research the history and the beliefs of the the guys running the church of England in the 19th century. Thats the key.
And no I am not a mormon. Just a devout Christian.
