Thanks to all freepers for the responses. BOF, your response gives me the most comfort and makes the most sense. I simply could not imagine that God would abandon Jews. The service today was moving and ancient in its feel. The Rabbi even made the point that we come into life screaming while others smile and the reverse is true at the end of life.

I believe that my friend lived up to his covenant. He loved his wife for 65 years and years after she passed. His children were another thing. But I think he loved them even if he could not accept their actions. But he was a good man who loved his neighbor as himself. I will miss him for a very long time.

G-d is all there is - everything comes from G-d, everything returns to G-d.

Being born into a state of sin - not a part of Judaism.
Satan trying to steal souls from G-d - not a part of Judaism.
Trinity - not a part of Judaism.
Armageddon - not a part of Judaism.
Judgment Day - not a part of Judaism (not in the way Christians believe).
Messiah - Christian beliefs not the same as Judaism.

Hope that helps.

Don’t worry about it - just remember that God’s love for us is beyond our comprehension.

But did St. Thomas betray Jesus?

How about the other Jews among the apostles and the early followers in Jerusalem? Did all those Jews betray Jesus?

He came first to the Jews and by golly He found Jews to follow Him.

You have to give up this "group guilt" thing.

Here's a thought for you. There are Christian people who live in the Arctic. Before modern times they were unable to pass the bread or drink the wine because wheat doesn't grow there, and neither do grapes.

Did God write the Arctic people out of "His plan for salvation" by depriving them of freeze hardy wheat and grapes?

Or do you suspect that God knows what He's up to even if mere human beings don't.

Hard to believe all Jews over the last couple thousand years are doomed to hell. This is a tough question. A christian believes Christ is the only way, but to believe this, he must also believe non-christians have no hope.

there was a big movement of Jesus coming back in 1979. well, we are all still here, and some say he came and we are left in hell here. Maybe God wants us to solve our own problems.

My God is a loving God! I trust his judgement of us. So sorry for your loss, but your friend sounded like a good man. IMHO he will be judged by a loving and fair God. Oh, and I too went to an all-girls Catholic School.

Seems a lot of Jews are becoming disenchanted with democrats... you wouldn't be stirring the pot a little... would you? Pitting Christians against Jews isn't very nice...

As I said thoughts are divided on the matter. BTW, it’s not just that reincarnation let’s us discuss it over and over and over, we get to come down on all sides if this goes on long enough.

We only know a tiny bit, and I suspect that much of what we think we know is either wrong or irrelevant.

For all we know, God gives everyone one last chance during or after dying. Maybe we all get one face-to-face chance.

You were saying ...

Can anyone help me with what will happen to his soul? Will my prayer help? I have no experience with this sort of thing and I am heartbroken with the loss of this good man.

And following up, for anyone who does not accept the salvation that is provided by the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob -- namely the One who was sent by God to be the salvation for the world, the Messiah of Israel, their names are not written in the "Lamb's book of life"...

The following tells about those who will appear before the "Great White Throne judgement" -- all those whose names are not in the Lamb's book of life...

Revelation Chapter 20

6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over
such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God
and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

7 Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from
his prison

8 and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners
of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose
number is as the sand of the sea.

9 They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of
the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of
heaven and devoured them.

10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and
brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be
tormented day and night forever and ever.

11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose
face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place
for them.

12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books
were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life.
And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which
were written in the books.

13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades
delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one
according to his works.

14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the
second death.

15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the
lake of fire.

In all the words above I did not see “Grace” once. (Maybe it was there, and I missed it.)

I believe Jesus made the Ultimate Sacrifice of All Time, for you, for me, and even — maybe especially — for your Jewish friend. We are given the Gift — the unearned, undeserved gift — of Life through that act, that Sacrifice, that Grace that surpasses all understanding.

Your friend, I believe, sleeps warm and secure in the very hollow of God’s hand, awating that magnificent day of the general resurrection, the destruction of all sin, and the deliverance of eternal life in the close presence of God to each and all of us, bought and paid for by the incredible, incomprehensible Act of Grace.

I have a close Jewish friend. We were partners in business for a couple of decades. We’ll go fishing together again, one day.

This I believe.

I can't answer your question about whether a Jew can go to Heaven. However, I can answer your question about prayer: prayer never hurts, and may do some good. I've prayed for deceased Jewish friends. I've even had Mass said for one. For that matter, I've even prayed for deceased Muslim friends. So pray for your friend. You and he might both be surprised at the outcome.

BTW, I used the correct term "manifest" ~ so you might be "manifest" as another being, or possibly even "manifest" as a demon, or, maybe as a "god" ~ (Heaven forfend, eh).

How you get to that point isn't up to me ~ but I do know Hindus and Buddhists discuss the methodologies for doing so ENDLESSLY.
