It's called "arguing from a position of ignorance." I completely agree with your point, but the problem isn't just with atheists. It's everyone. There are misconceptions carried and spread about every religion. A few that spring to mind: Christians are all about converting everyone on the planet, Jews are greedy swindlers, Buddhists are atheists, Muslims are peace-loving...

He says there are so many more examples of Christians going into buildings and blowing people up in the U.S. Of course, there are far more Christians than Muslims here, and the scale of 9/11 attacks were far different from post office murders.

Express the numbers in a standard fashion (e.g. per 100,000 people) and they will sure look different.

According to a book I read about Rachael Joy Scott (the first to be killed at Columbine) the killers routinely mocked christians for their faith. So I dont get the idea that the Climbine killers were christians. The idea the McVeigh was a “God believing Catholic” is absurd.
