Josh Powell leaving Mormonism
ABC4.com (Salt Lake City) ^ | June 2, 2010 | Brent Hunsaker

Josh Powell is apparently shopping around for a new church. On the website Susanpowell.org, which is widely believed to be written by Josh and his father, Steven Powell, there was this paragraph:

“Finding trustworthy spiritual support is more critical now than ever, since according to the media, members of the Mormon community had been pressuring Susan to divorce Josh on the basis of his beliefs. Josh and his family have recently enjoyed the fellowship of religious communities that share his and Susan's pro-family values. They have been investigating Christianity as an alternative to Mormonism. Vibrant faith communities in the local area have been very supportive and have been helping Josh and his family through the turmoil.” (Emphasis added)

But Kiirsi Hellewell, a close friend of Susan Cox Powell and a member of the same LDS Ward in West Valley, disputes the claim of a conspiracy to split up Josh and Susan. She said, “Everyone was extremely supportive. Everyone was very friendly to Josh. After Susan disappeared, everyone gave him the benefit of the doubt, helped him move, and invited him over for dinner. We did everything we could to help him.”

Friends of Susan cannot believe that Josh could abandon his faith over something the “media” might have said. It is equally unbelievable to the family of Susan Cox Powell.

Tuesday evening, the family issued this statement through a spokeswoman:

“Susan would be heartbroken. He is making decisions that are contrary to her wishes. She was the one who took the lead in matters of faith. We see this as another attempt by Josh to close the door on Susan and forget all about her.”

Hellewell was even more blunt, “Every decision he’s made since she disappeared has been against what she would want.”

This weekend marks 6 months since Susan Cox Powell disappeared from her home in West Valley City, Utah. Josh Powell remains the only person of interest in the ongoing police investigation.

Proverbs 22:6

Train a child in the way he should go,
and even when he is old he will not turn away from it.

“That’s like saying I’m investigating spaghetti as an alternative to Italian food.”

No it's not.
Mormonism's founder looked at Christianity, and found it lacking; so he made up his own religion.

Mormonism is not a Christian religion any more than Islam is a Christian religion.

That's right. You, PD, hav been caught overreaching beyond what your own "scriptures" restrain you to do.

(Szonian, chalk this up to your ongoing monitoring of how when a Mormon apologist can't address the message directly, they go on the attack against the person...trying to bear a testimony of shaming the messenger...As Szonian has aptly noted time and time again, it's getting too predictable...And that's sad, PD...I mean, you started off this way on many of your FR posts...and then you've begun moving away from it...you were actually starting to move in a true dialogue form...Oh, well)

You know full well that Mormons believe that most Christian denominations have some part of the full gospel truth. Using our ongoing analogy that you are attempting to twist (big surprise), they have a good pizza or spaghetti.

However they do not have the full menu. If asked which restaurant to go to would you want to be told to go to the ones that have lost recipes and do not serve the gospel/menu in it’s entirety?

God’s answer to Joseph might seem strong to you but perhaps he wanted to make it absolutely clear eh?

Folks, as I have said many times before, anyone wanting to know the truth can find any and all of these “issues” addressed elsewhere and can get more than one side to them. All it takes is a sincere desire to know the truth and a little bit of effort.

You won’t find the truth on an anti-LDS activist board like the Freeper religion section has become. But by all means. Read this stuff and then find out for yourself. What you find will be enlightening.

You know

Reading the mind of another Freeper is a form of "making it personal."

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

LOL, much of what is posted for comment comes from lds sources. Oh it is enlightening to see mormons beginning to admit that -

There are no bom lands - but they are not important anyway - so what if the real true 'history' is nothing but a lie - you have a warm fuzzy in your bosom

The real way that smith alledgedly 'translated' the bom - with his face stuffed in a hat looking at a smooth stone.

4000+ changes to the bom since then.

Smith's deceptive and illegal institution of polygamy - which should had had him excommunicated

Racial bigotry for decades to 1978 - yet no apology for overt discrimination against blacks

Oh yes, seek the truth paragon, then you won't have to pretend anymore.

Not from YOU!

YOU keep pointing to SOMEWHERE, but NEVER can show the evidences of your accusations HERE!

Psychiatrists have a term for this:
