Then don’t work so hard to make it meaningless.

“However...you may check you freepmail. There you will find the number to call to verify my credentials. It is the number to the evil megachurch I belong to. My boss there will verify who I am.”

I’m not going to call in any case - because I have no reason to believe anyone you know - but I just checked my email and there’s nothing there.

“As for the rest...I refuse to get down into the mud with you.”

Someone who claims I said something I never said is making things muddy.

“Continue on in blissful ignorance and let’s resume this conversation in 30-40 years when your church resembles those in Europe.”

Except that won’t happen and I’ve never been ignorant about this issue. What I wrote was true no matter how you misrepresent what I wrote.

Oh, and still no email from you. Imagine that. I guess it will get there later, right?

I checked. It’s there. I still have no reason to believe anything you say. Protestants have lied here way too often.

Oh, and still no email from you. Imagine that. I guess it will get there later, right?

See...that is what I am saying. Is that...was that necessary? Is that what your church teaches? Is that how you are taught to be a witness?

And again...you are not reading anything I said. I never claimed you said something you didn't...I even ADMITTED I might have misunderstood you and that I drew a conclusion based on logic. Yet you still hammer away at that...even though I admitted I misunderstood you but that it was easy to do based on the premise of the debate. Again...UNNECESSARY.

And again...I have NOT misrepresented what you wrote. I might have misunderstood it...but never did I make a contrary claim. It was only logical to assume what I did given the premise of the argument. Otherwise...it was a pointless piece of information.

Perhaps you aren't Catholic. Why should I believe you? All you are doing is attacking and slinging mud...insulting people's integrity and intelligence. Maybe you are a wolf...a tare...meant to just make Catholics look bad. An intentional bad witness.

And again...I do know its the ANTE-Nicene Fathers. I have the first 10 volumes. It cost an arm and a leg.

But again...so SORRY for being distracted. I draft my fantasy football league next week and I was trying to get a look at the 49'ers to make sure I didn't draft a dud.

Yeah...Catholics never lie. Priests never lied. They never did....oh yeah...there is an abundant of moral high-ground where you are standing.

I ask: Point to the "Lie."

You wrote:

Was it necessary to repeatedly misrepresent what I said?

“Is that what your church teaches?”

Did your sect teach you to misrepresent what I said?

“Is that how you are taught to be a witness?”

Do you witness by misrepresenting what I wrote?

“And again...you are not reading anything I said.”

Clearly I am.

“I never claimed you said something you didn’t...”

Actually you did.

“I even ADMITTED I might have misunderstood you and that I drew a conclusion based on logic. Yet you still hammer away at that...even though I admitted I misunderstood you but that it was easy to do based on the premise of the debate. Again...UNNECESSARY.”

Sorry, but you can’t seem to get your story straight. Now you’re saying you did misunderstand. It went from “might have misunderstood” do “misunderstood” in two sentences. I can’t rely on any thing you say.

“And again...I have NOT misrepresented what you wrote.”

If you misunderstood it, how could you not misrepresent it? Do you read these posts of yours before hitting the post button?

“I might have misunderstood it...”

Whoa! Now we’re back to “might have misunderstood”? Sheesh! See what I mean. Yes, no, maybe. Make up your mind.

“but never did I make a contrary claim. It was only logical to assume what I did given the premise of the argument.”

No.

” Otherwise...it was a pointless piece of information.”

Let’s say it was for a moment. Why are you going on and on about it then?

“Perhaps you aren’t Catholic. Why should I believe you?”

Don’t! Do you think I will care if you do?

“All you are doing is attacking and slinging mud...insulting people’s integrity and intelligence. Maybe you are a wolf...a tare...meant to just make Catholics look bad. An intentional bad witness.”

Maybe you’re just desparately trying to avoid what you did.

“And again...I do know its the ANTE-Nicene Fathers. I have the first 10 volumes. It cost an arm and a leg.”

Christianbooks.com = $99. They’ve been running that sale off and on forever.

“But again...so SORRY for being distracted. I draft my fantasy football league next week and I was trying to get a look at the 49’ers to make sure I didn’t draft a dud.”

(snicker) Good luck. I hope you beat the competition in your fantasy football league.

Yes, there is. Protestants lie at FR all the time.

“I ask: Point to the “Lie.””

Ask all you like. Misrepresenting what was obviously clear is either ignorance or dishonesty. Deal with it.

Stop making this thread "about" individual Freepers.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

I agree. I attempted to post some facts in regards to this original article and got attacked...as did others. But...I have offered, via freepmail, vlad my phone number so we can talk about this like men...instead of hiding behind a keyboard and calling names. I prefer to settle things that way (well...I love face to face but that is impossible unless he lives in Houston...and if he does...I am game for that)...if possible.

I really did not intend for this thread to be hijacked into a one on one mud-slinging fest. I did not "lie" nor did I misrepresent his position. If it seems that way...I do apologize. My intents were to try and string thoughts together with the facts I have that are Germain to the video that was posted. For the part I played in letting that get away from us...I apologize.

I’m not trying to antagonize the RM, but this last statement is unbelievable. You ADMITTED that you misunderstood what I wrote but you think your didn’t misrepresent what you didn’t understand? Incredible.

No...what's incredible is that somehow a person who misunderstands what you are saying and then restates that is somehow a liar. Then when that person admits they might have misunderstood your position...you won't let it go...you continue to call them a liar.

A mistake...misunderstanding is not a lie. A lie is intentional...the other is not. Yes...I admitted I misunderstood...so how is that a lie?

You are a bully...plain and simple. And its easy to hide behind your keyboard and bully people. Not so easy to man up to it.

You wrote:

You did NOT restate what I wrote. You posted something DIFFERENT and insisted I provide evidence for something I never said. What I wrote was entirely obvious and explicit to begin with.

“Then when that person admits they might have misunderstood your position...you won’t let it go...you continue to call them a liar.”

Now you’re back to “might” ? Before you said you misunderstood. Now it’s “might”. Which is it?

“A mistake...misunderstanding is not a lie. A lie is intentional...the other is not. Yes...I admitted I misunderstood...so how is that a lie?”

Now you’re back to you did misunderstand? What happened to “might”? You shift back and forth in post after post.

“You are a bully...plain and simple. And its easy to hide behind your keyboard and bully people. Not so easy to man up to it.”

I never once in this thread got anything wrong. You misunderstood what I wrote - according to your own words - and then misrepresented what I wrote and never even correctly restated what I said. And yet you call me a bully? I have never once incorrectly restated what you said. I never once got something wrong in this thread. Clearly I am not the bully.

The RM won’t be happy with me or you about this.

I have attended various Protestant services in the past.

Several times as a young adult I went to Protestant worship services. I was not impressed. There was lots of communal choral signing with men singing some verses and women others. It was beautiful— and took the focus from the words of the song. I listened to the ministers speak. It was very well done— and sounded like a game show host to me. Too glib. Too sure. Too smooth. Everyone seemed to be making a very public show of how faith-filled they were. There was a sense of one-upsmanship there that I found disturbing.

I went to a distant relative’s Protestant funeral. It was empty of the mystical power of God. I came away shocked and saddened at the shallowness of it. The deceased was all alone at that service; there was no communion with two thousand years of Christian practice, thought, teaching, tradition and belief. There were no ties to what Christians have been saying and doing since the time of Christ.

I think young adults look for sharing, community, focus on self, and enthusiasm. They find that at Protestant services.

But when they mature and are looking for something more, they come home to the Catholic Church. Why? Because we have so much more than that. We have the fullness of the Faith. We have something so solid and timeless and sure to cling to when times get tough.

In Mass, one is alone within community. We are each worshiping as individuals, all together. There is mystery, adoration, art, history, Truth, worship, the Word, timelessness, and brokenhearted love of Christ. We are not fancy and we don’t do showy singing, but we do something much more nourishing. We follow Christ’s ancient words and teachings as He asked us to do.

People grow up and stop looking for a “cool” religious experience and start looking for a “real” religious experience.

Hi Melian! I agree! My husband, Tom, and I, have attended several Assemblies of God services (his friend is a fallen-away Catholic, and now the pastor), and I believe we met more people in the relatively few visits there, than we currently know after 26 years of daily Mass. Fellowship runs amok there. They smile and smile and sing and sing and sing, IMO looking and searching for the Jesus they dismissed at the altar.

As far as funeral services, I once again, concur. Both of my parents had painfully weak Protestant services. Afterwards, we had Masses offered up for them ...
