The above story -- and these two stories -- all just within one week's time:

BYU grad, Ex-LDS missionary arrested: Arrest made in LDS church fires in South Salt Lake

I have decided to post the obligatory - so what?, before anyone else.
(Ok, the so what? I'll answer that. Kids are kids, they do stupid things....a lot. However lds, especially those on FR, seem to think that their kids never do anything wrong or juvenile. That somehow lds kids are above the "stupid animal tricks" of other young people or that the pressure of being "perfect" as dictated by lds leaders doesn't contribute to the shenanigans. )

for the record - I am LDS and do not treat or consider my children as perfect. The older ones are grown and passed thru their childhoods (for the most part, kinda like their Dad). Number 3 child, still at home, has some problems with a couple of courses at school, and we are working thru that, like most other responsible parents. Methinks there is a chip on someone's shoulder. I could be wrong, but that was the tone I heard. Or, an individual member of the LDS church did/said something stupid. All those reading this that are perfect, please form a very short line to the right. I won't be there, but I hope y'all will at least wave.

Well, good that you acknowledge that kids are kids. Stick around you will see some lds FR defend these kids or at the very least make excuses. Chip on shoulder, personally from some of the lds FR posters one would think its taught in Sunday School as a lessons.

Seekers of truth,

If you peruse the Free Republic religion forums you will notice a pattern. There's an anti-Mormon group of people here that spends a great deal of their time attacking the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They post regurgitated propaganda on an almost daily basis.

They have a misguided obsession. You can witness many different tactics employed that you might find quite interesting. The straw man argument is a big favorite and is frequently preceded by cherry-picking quotes or other material. After the "quotation" the attacker will misrepresent what has been said or what was meant and then attack their own interpretation.Later they will have the audacity to claim they were "only" quoting our own material.

They will of course insist ad nauseum that they are merely using our sources and are therefore innocent of any deceptive practice. LDS persons have no issue whatsoever having our scriptures or leaders quoted as long as it is presented fairly and accurately. This is rarely (if ever) done.

Another favorite is posting scripture or statements which on their own really present no dilemma. They make something out of nothing while never bringing up a single objection that hasn't been addressed a hundred times before.

You might note a couple of other tactics used to try to antagonize is the use of disrespectful or insulting terms or language and/or pictures. That's a Christlike thing to do right? Yeah I don't think so either. It does speak volumes about them though.

Sometimes they cruise the headlines of the day seeking any story that might be twisted into making the Church look bad. Anything will do, just watch the progression of posts following it and see what I mean.

After reading their posts, I invite you to seek the truth about whatever "issue" they seem to be "revealing" or "exposing". I promise that if you do so with honest intent, the "ahah" moments you will have will be many and frequent. You will start to recognize the tactics employed to cleverly twist and attack and will likely chuckle the more you see. In actuality, there's nothing new here. It's all been addressed many times before.

The latest twist in the anti-Mormon propaganda machine is to actually go to the links provided, but then they cherry pick what they want, then quote and straw man attack that. Clever. It almost appears that they are helping you, the seeker of truth out by doing some footwork for you. Not so much. Don't be insulted, look for yourself. It's not the haystack they want you to think.

Here's a few links to get your started from a different viewpoint. I have found that the vast majority of the "issues" brought up can be found and addressed at http://www.fairlds.org/ but here's more:

http://scriptures.lds.org/
http://www.lds.org
http://www.fairlds.org/
http://www.mormonapologetics.org/
http://www.mormonwiki.com/Main_Page
http://www.lightplanet.com/response/index.html
http://www.jefflindsay.com/LDS_Intro.shtml
http://www.answeringantimormons.com/index.htm
http://promormon.blogspot.com/

Now you will likely notice the "you never address our points" posts pop up as usual. All after providing the answers just as you have here.

Sometimes it is claimed that these sites present a needle in a haystack. Far from it. But if you give up before you try you won't know will you?

Will you wear blinders too? Seek truth. Find out for yourself. Want to chat with someone on any topic? A few of these sites provide just that. So do your homework sincere seeker of truth. Listen and read from both "sides". Make up your own mind.

I witness to you of these truths and wish you the best, in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

(Lds are starting to redefine the word fire works...and hey, why not? They redefine almost every other word)

No wonder Joseph Smith repeatedly said Lds were going to place he called "everlasting burnings"

I would say of all the teachings that was most horrific about what Smith taught, the following, which he "broke out" late in his life...was the topper...1844:
"...you have got to learn how to be Gods yourselves...going from one small degree to another, and from a small capacity to a great one...from exaltation to exaltation, until you...are able to dwell... (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pp. 346-347)

Well, "until you...are able to dwell" where?
WHERE were the "ghost-lights" -- the demon-lights of Smith telling him where he & his followers would dwell???
The answer is right there on p. 347 of Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith:
"until you...are able to dwell in everlasting burnings."
"The spirits...are blessed in their departure to the world of spirits."
"Enveloped in flaming fire, they are not far from us..."
Whoaaa.

Smith must have felt the guilt gnawing at him from no assurance of forgiveness of sins; but he wouldn't let go of his "everlasting burnings" teaching late in life: "Those who have done wrong ALWAYS have that wrong gnawing them. Immortality dwells in everlasting burnings." (ToPJS, p. 367)

These spirits craving their own "immortality" as false gods wouldn't let go of Smith...
...and actually occasionally told him the truth...
...as they did about "everlasting burnings"... and "enveloped in flaming fire"
...They had the last laugh at Smith's -- and his followers' -- expense.

Make no mistake, Mormons. There's a fiery everlasting pain that accompanies outer darkness. The longevity words in the Book of Mormon used to describe heaven ("everlasting," "eternal") are also used to describe hell in the Book of Mormon. However long heaven; the BoM characters concluded "ditto" about hell.

“I witness to you of these truths and wish you the best, in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mormonic Witness Disclosures:
When I say, “”I witness to you”, I mean, I’m posting my
opinion here on FR. It’s just that “”I witness to you” sounds
so powerful. As a future god myself, I love power.
When we use the word “truths”, we mean only whatever we
say is true. This has nothing to do with OBJECTIVE TRUTH.
Only SUBJECTIVE TRUTH.
When we say “wish you the best”, we mean, “HEY YOU! Become
a mormon, like us! Quit going to false Christian Churches
(which to us means all Christian Churches).
When we say, “our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”, of course
we do NOT mean the Christian second person of the Godhead
who was neither created nor made! We mean the Mormon Jesus
who was created as a spirit being as a result of Heavenly
Father and Heavenly Mother “doing it” in space. For the
record, we have a fourth mormon earth god, Holy Ghost, who
should not be confused with the Third Person of the Triune
Christian God. We mean (yet another) created spirit being
who was naughty, so didn’t get a body. Ah, well, we love
him anyway, that naughty little guy.
When I say, “amen”, I am doing it to sound powerfully
religious. Heck, it really doesn’t add anything.
When I post my links, I do not want you to ask me any questions. I personally don’t have answers. I do have links.
I have no facts, evidence or logic to support my claims. What
I have is these links. They are good links the cult gives
me. I like them. I post them everywhere, while saying AMEN!
BUT DO NOT ASK ME A QUESTION. ESPECIALLY ABOUT:
My mormon magic underwear with the occult symbols
My future godhood
Any of our sinful, created 4 Mormon Earth Gods
Any of our Mormon Pantheon of Gods - sorry, off limits!
Working my way into the highest levels of mormon heaven
Any questions about celestial sex between the mormon gods
and their personal property: the mormon goddesses in their
harems. Their roll is for breeding purposes. Family is forever,
so is pregnancy. Just don’t ask.
OK, I think that covers all disclaimers for my post.
