Veterans Day 2010

Paul's Letter To The Ephesians
Chapter 6

10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
11. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

19. and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20. for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

Dear Jesus, Thank You Profoundly For Our Brave American Heroes!
As We Honor Them This Veterans Day,
Give us All A Fresh and Renewed Spirit of Love For Them and For Our Nation.
Open Our Eyes to The Sacrifices They Have Made To keep us Free to Worship You in Peace.
Thank You For Our Beautiful Land, a Land of Abundance and Freedom, and a Beacon of Liberty.
Thank You For Our Veterans and Active Duty Heroes Who Put Their Lives on the Line To Keep It That Way.
Help us now to Retain that Blessing by honoring Your Gift to us,
by not allowing ourselves or our elected officials to slip back into sloth and graft and other sinful practices that rob the people of their heritage.
Keep Us Vigilant, In Jesus Name.

For Our Beloved Troops

Our Father,
Who Art In Heaven,
Blessed and Hallowed Be Your Most Holy Name!
You Are My Refuge and my Strength,
My very Present Help In Times Of trouble.
Your Are The One Who trains My Hands For War,
and Comforts My Heart in times of Stress.
You Are My Rock and My Redeemer,
My Strength and My Song,
My Fortress and My High Tower,
My Sword and My Shield.
I Will Not Fear The Enemy,
For If You Be With me,
Who Can Stand Against me?
For It Is Not By Might,

but By Your Holy Spirit,

Selfless Love
November 11, 2010

On December 4, 2007, a 19-year- old soldier serving in Iraq saw a grenade being thrown from a rooftop. Manning the machine gun in the turret of his Humvee, he tried to deflect the explosive—but it fell inside his vehicle. He had time to jump to safety. Instead, he threw his body over the grenade in a stunningly selfless act that saved the lives of four fellow soldiers.

This almost unexplainable act of self-sacrifice may help us understand why the Bible tells us that there is a kind of love that is more honorable than having great knowledge or faith (1 Cor. 13:1-3).

This kind of love can be hard to find—leading the apostle Paul to lament that more people care for themselves than for the interests of Christ (Phil. 2:20-21). That’s why he was so grateful for Epaphroditus, a co-worker who “came close to death, not regarding his life” in order to serve others (v.30).

If we think we could never put our own life on the line for others, Epaphroditus shows us the first step with his selfless example. Such love is neither normal nor common, and it doesn’t come from us. It comes from the Spirit of God, who can give us the desire and ability to feel for others some of the inexpressible affection God has for us.

To give up yourself for others
