Father of The 5 Browns pleads guilty to sexually abusing his daughters

PROVO — The father of The 5 Browns — his face scratched with injuries from a spectacular Monday auto accident — pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually abusing his daughters when they were children.

Keith Brown, 55, appeared very solemn and serious during his appearance. He was just recently released from the hospital where he was treated for injuries from a Monday night accident in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

In a voice barely audible, Brown pleaded guilty to sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony, and two counts of sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

Brown will be sentenced March 31 at 10 a.m. Prosecutors will recommend that he spend 10 years to life in prison.

The charges against him were only filed last week. But police have been working on the case for months, and the resulting charges and Thursday's plea were part of an agreement reached between prosecutors, Brown's attorney and his daughters — Desirae, 32; Deondra, 30; and Melody, 26.

Brown's attorney, Steve Shapiro, said he has been having discussions with prosecutors about the case for past six months.

"Today was the next step in a very long process that Keith has been going through to accept responsibility," Shapiro said. "He's terribly remorseful for what has happened and what he's put his family through."

Shapiro said his client first went to his LDS bishop to confess the abuse. But prosecutor David Sturgill said it was the daughters who first reported the abuse to police.

I’d provide the link but figured you’d like to do your own research to find the truth. Look with an open heart. It is not a needle in a hay stack.

Found the following from "Paul 2" at Mormon Mentality Web site:

Mormon Mentality.org: Reaction...the 5 Browns 'situation'

[Looks like Mormons just can't get away cover-up type of euphemisms...note that word 'situation' to describe repeat rape, sexual abuse to three pre-teen victims over two periods totaling three years!...maybe somebody should comment over there to the "bbell" poster who started that thread!]

Per Mormon Mentality poster "Paul 2":
In Utah bishops must report if they have non-confession knowledge but not if their knowledge comes from confession. Here are the applicable Utah laws from http://www.childwelfare.gov/systemwide/laws_policies/statutes/clergymandated.pdf Utah Code Ann. § 62A-4a-403 (LexisNexis through 2009 1st Spec. Sess.) “When any person has reason to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or neglect, or who observes a child being subjected to conditions or circumstances that reasonably would result in abuse or neglect, he or she shall immediately notify the nearest peace officer, law enforcement agency, or office of the division. The notification requirements do not apply to a clergy member or priest, without the consent of the person making the confession, with regard to any confession made to him or her in his or her professional character in the course of discipline enjoined by the church to which he or she belongs, if:
• The confession was made directly to the clergy member or priest by the perpetrator. • The clergy member or priest is, under canon law or church doctrine or practice, bound to maintain the confidentiality of that confession. When the clergy member or priest receives information about abuse or neglect from any source other than confession of the perpetrator, he or she is required to give notification on the basis of that information even though he or she may have also received a report of abuse or neglect from the confession of the perpetrator.
Exemption of notification requirements for a clergy member or priest does not exempt him or her from any other efforts required by law to prevent further abuse or neglect by the perpetrator.”

IOW, if the bishop found out second hand -- like from the wife or daughters...or even any other source...then he was obligated to call the authorities!

That car was totaled and no one should have survived. It seems unlikely that it was anything other than a suicide attempt.

From a KSL.com report from Feb. 15: Father of The 5 Browns recovering from crash, facing sex charges :

Fire crews and paramedics had difficulty initially finding the wreck. They drove up and down the canyon, searching for debris, SKID MARKS, disturbed snowbanks or anything that indicated where a car may have gone off the road. But there were NO SIGNS.

No skid marks. Are the Utah police investigating Keith Brown for the attempted murder of his wife? Or is this one applied to the trash bin of Mormon "Utah justice" -- the type of "justice" we've seen going back to and even before the Mountain Meadow Massacre?

A car does not leave skid marks on black ice.

And if the only way he knows about it is when the person confessed his sin the Bishop, the Bishop is forbidden to disclose it.

Exactly like a Catholic Priest.

Do you hate Catholics as well?

Would a priest reveal a confession? " If not, he too should be imprisoned as an accessory after the fact.

doesn't work that way...
