Tom Brady: "There Has To BE More Than This"

In this post you will see Tom Brady in a 60-Minutes interview say he is still searching for something. Even with a super model wife who is a millionaire, his multi-million dollar contracts, three super bowl rings, etc., etc., he feels like he is missing out on something:

John 4:1-14 (The Message):

.....He came into Sychar, a Samaritan village that bordered the field Jacob had given his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was still there. Jesus, worn out by the trip, sat down at the well. It was noon. A woman, a Samaritan, came to draw water. Jesus said, “Would you give me a drink of water?” (His disciples had gone to the village to buy food for lunch.) The Samaritan woman, taken aback, asked, “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.) Jesus answered, “If you knew the generosity of God and who I am, you would be asking me for a drink, and I would give you fresh, living water.” The woman said, “Sir, you don’t even have a bucket to draw with, and this well is deep. So how are you going to get this ‘living water’? Are you a better man than our ancestor Jacob, who dug this well and drank from it, he and his sons and livestock, and passed it down to us?” Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst—not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life.”

Don’t have, nor watch TV. Played football myself though, wide receiver and punt returner. I know he married some super model, but I have not heard of any children. Marriage without lots of children was always considered a curse. Maybe that’s his problem.

IIRC, he dated celebrity actress Bridget Moynahan, had a baby with her, and then left her for celebrity model Gisele Bundchen, who he is currently married to. From what I see of him, he is a major a-hole and one of my least favorite players in the NFL, although he is sometimes considered to be a “classy” and “respectable” NFL star.

**”There Has To BE More Than This”**

I said the same thing, from time to time, while a proud, studious member of a rural, very conservative, Presbyterian church. At the age of 25, I met some oneness Pentecostals, and over a three year span went out persecuting them verbally, condemning them whether they were present or not. Then God knocked me to my knees financially. I obeyed Acts 2:38, being born again of the water and the Spirit (God gives the Holy Ghost to them that obey him. Acts 5:32).

Mark Twain's story is depressing. There were times when he seemed to want to believe so strongly. He was fascinated by Joan of Arc, for instance. And yet, he couldn't do it--at least not publicly.

I blame it on good old-fashioned pride. He didn't want to be one of "those people" who found God as they approached death. I know plenty of people like that and it's very distressing to watch. They would rather go down to perdition that admit that they may have been wrong.

Mark 8:36

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

That’s really sad ... and makes me appreciate the gift of faith!

I grew up Roman Catholic, went to Catholic elementary school, was an altar boy, the whole nine yards. Roman Catholicism never taught me about Jesus Christ. I grew up, joined the Marines, was a rebel in my 20’s living the fast life, chasing women, and thought life was just about women and partying.

I was pissed off at the Roman Catholic church, and the years right after I left active duty were spent searching. I dabbled in the New Age and Buddhism, and at the same time was reseacrhing all I could about this God Man Jesus Christ. God gave me the gift of faith, and it is a miracle I am a Christian Reformed Protestant today. My life has changed, I give it all to Him, I give Him All the credit, He had mercy on me, I deserved none of it. And it isn’t about money or prosperity like the lying prosperity preachers preach.

Tom sounds like your typical moral-relativistic, subscriber of liberal pop culture easy believism.
