Beck's Bogus Beliefs

March 2011

by T. A. McMahon

"Glenn Beck, the television and radio talk show host who is best known for his conservative political views, isn't someone whom we would normally address in our newsletter. Our concerns are usually directed at individuals, programs, or organizations that promote spiritual or theological views contrary to the Word of God. Beck, of late, seems to be making himself at home in that realm, and he's attracting many who call themselves Bible-believing Christians. ...

First of all, Glenn Beck is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He may refer to himself as a Christian, but he's certainly not a biblical Christian. The distinction is as wide as hell is from heaven: "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God" (2 John:9). Mormon doctrine is "another gospel" that exalts "another Jesus." Both false beliefs came out of the deceived and deceiving mind of Joseph Smith. Secondly, "our country" doesn't have "Christian roots," even though some are claiming that our founding fathers were true Christians. Many were not biblical Christians but Christians in name only, who followed the faith of Deism, Masonry, and the philosophy of the Enlightenment. Any early influence in America's history of a biblical nature very likely came from the Pilgrims and the Puritans...."

All possibly true, but the reality is this is all about the FR anti-Mormon chic.

Yeah! What an improvement ... you stated an attack on the LDS Church, not an attack on Mormons! I wonder, could you be started tyo ‘get it’?

The critical mistake way too many Christians make is that they equate the founding of the USA with Christian traditions, not Judeo-Christian ones.

The Judeo-Christian concepts Thomas Jefferson used as the core of the Declaration of Independence derive from Genesis and Exodus of the Bible, where liberty and equality inescapably freed the Jewish people from their Egyptian bondage, just as the Revolutionary War and the act that led up to it frees us from the UK to become what we did.

Just as the Jews regained their freedom through the liberating authority of God, our founding fathers noticed that freedom from Britain could only come through that same authority; that it was by the grace of God we not only survived the war but did, in fact, gain our freedom, just as the Jews accomplished when they turned to God, not the Golden Calf.

When Christians claim the US was founded on Christian traditions, they are forgetting half the equation, the Judeo- part.

Is this an accurate depiction of LDS theology?

Thomas Jefferson was, at best, a deist.

I think Glenn can be a bit weird and too emotional at times...like he still has residual anger from his past....but he does a lot of good for sure! And anyone who thinks that Roy Masters is a cult leader really needs to get their heads examined! Good lord, I mean it does not take a rocket scientist to see this man has the simplest and highest tech method to finding God. That is something the church has lost! If they had it, we would not be in the fix as a nation that we are in now! I blame the church for much...but I also forgive them because they are blind mostly and do not know what the heck they are doing.

You continually ask me your question with a flawed premise. It matters not how boldly and emphatically you demand that the answer is one or the other that you have chosen.

I would suggest you do some more homework. Perhaps a little more not from your anti-Mormon biased sources.

“New Jerusalem” would be a great search topic to start with.

You are truly interested in the truth right?

While those you address ARE interested in the truth, and share the truth about the blasphemies at the heart of Momronism, you apparently need to catch up.

You really need to give it a rest. HATE isn’t something we relish here on FR.

God Bless. You’ll need it.

What you probably aren’t seeing is that the same people have been going head-to-head for a long time. For instance Paragon Defender (pardon me PD for using you for an example)

We “anti’s” have been preaching the gospel to him/her for a very long time. We compare the teachings of Mormonism with the Word of God, aka the Holy Bible. It blows it out of the water but PD is determined to stay in Mormonism.

PD and the other determined Mormons have been told a million tmes that all they have to do is pick up a bible and walk into the nearest bible-alone-teaching church or to their nearest born-again friend or relative. Most Baptist churches are a good bet. Calvary chapels, non-denominational Christian churches, any church with the word “bible” in its name. I worship at an assembly of God church right now but didn’t even know that was its affiliation for months. Doesn’t really matter. They teach right out of the bible.

IF that’s too much of a step, just read the gospel of John. Then try Romans. It’s all there to those who will see by the power of the Holy Spirit.

But the reason that most of us anti’s are not “pushing” a denomination or a particular church is because we know that where your butt is planted on Sunday won’t get you in good with God. Who you give your tithe to or even if you choose or don’t choose to tithe won’t buy you points. There is nothing we can do or not do, eat or not eat, wear or not wear, that will have the slightest eternal consequence in and of itself.

Doesn’t matter if you say certain prayers, raise your hands high in song, kneel, bow, volunteer at the homeless shelter, whatever! Those things will not buy you one minute in heaven if you are not saved. And no church can save you.

You seem to think this is irrelevant, the experience I related tells me otherwise.

Not quite.

I think it is down in the noise of the signal.

Not quite.

I think it is NOT going to be mentioned at ALL by MORMON missionaries or ANYONE trying to lure someone INTO MORMONism.

Especially if they are leaning on the 'restored' mantra.

Oh look. It’s yet another attack on the LDS Church post on FR.

Using it's own publications. How easy!

No, that is HIS answer.

Then it should be very easy to post the relevant scriptures that support what you assert.
