A surge in Satanism fuelled by the internet has led to a sharp rise in the demand for exorcists, the Roman Catholic Church has warned. The web has made it easier than ever before to access information on Devil-worshipping and the occult, experts said.

Exorcism is the subject of a six-day conference being held this week at the Regina Apostolorum Pontifical University in Rome, which is under the Vatican's authority.

"The internet makes it much easier than in the past to find information about Satanism," said Carlo Climati, a member of the university who specialises in the dangers posed to young people by Satanism.

"In just a few minutes you can contact Satanist groups and research occultism.

There are more articles about The Vatican mentioning a greater need for exorcists. Few articles mention the influence of santeria and voodoo and how immigrants bring these practices with them. Ask any cop in Miami and he will tell you.

More people dabbling in the occult = more cases of possession.

The general trend of people leaving Churches is having a direct effect on this; these people feel empty, spiritually, and in their search for fulfillment, are pulled in by the mysterious, secret, and dangerous reputation of the occult.

Other people just get 'bored' with regular religion and go looking for a 'spiritual thrill,' and once again get sucked into satanic practices.

The Bible is clear that you do not dabble in the occult, seems like good advice.

The devil finding empty souls brings with him seven more demons worst than the first.

He claimed that the sex abuse scandals which have engulfed the Church in the US, Ireland, Germany and other countries, were proof that the anti-Christ was waging a war against the Holy See. He said Pope Benedict XVI believed "wholeheartedly" in the practice of exorcism.

And the sex abuse scandal of an exorcist is even more proof the devil is working double-time.

Thanks for the link. There was a brief mention of this in a Florida newspaper but did not include many details.
