I am a longtime lurker here and visit nearly everyday.
I have developed a severe allergy problem. I have been told by my allergy Doctor that I am "allergic to iodine when taken as food in combination with other elements" In other words I can't tolerate iodine in my food. He said I am the first true case of this type he has ever seen. Many people think they are allergic to Iodine but in fact are allergic to a protein found in shellfish.
I am living off of a few juiced raw vegetables,organic unsalted peanut butter,oranges,orange juice and organic strawberry preserves.That seems to be all I can tolerate.If I "make a mistake" I have the following symptoms.Immediate severe "tightening" of the muscles starting high up my back and eventually spreading up my neck and to the back of my head. This leads to pretty severe headache,elevated blood pressure..last time it went to 180/111 . I am retaining a lot of fluid and feel weak.I have gone into Anaphylactic shock,thrown up etc. Unexplained rashes across my face and my entire scalp. I also suffer from colitis and diverticulitis.
I spoke with a local Doctor this week who told me he had no idea what could be done to help me.He advised me to get as many Christians as possible to pray for me and stated that "you need Divine healing". My allergy Doctor has been good to help with supplements etc which have given me more strength but has also stated that he does not know what can be done and that my healing would have to come from God.I have been to several doctors,herb people,chiropractors etc and none have been able to help me.
I am 47 and the father of two and a happy grandfather. I am a Christian and I am trying hard to be at peace with whatever my future holds.The thing I struggle most with is the financial burden my sickness has brought to my family. I do not have the strength to work a normal work week and struggle with staying on top of things at my office.We are facing immediate financial crisis and long term issues as well.I hate having to be preoccupied with our needs instead of spending my time and efforts in service to God & my fellow man.
I ask you my Free Republic friends to pray for me and my family.
If your doc didn't know that, it might be time to find a new one.
NOT SEA SALT!!! Not only does that have iodine, if there's a shellfish sensitivity, that would not be good.
Yes, definitely try kosher salt. I use a brand called David's. It has no iodine in it. You'd be shocked at the number of products which have sea salt in them.
Prayers lifted for you, but I will also second the advice to seek second opinions, and alternative therapies, and add a ping to FReeper metmom, who will probably have more serious allergy information than most general practitioners!

Since you have a computer might I suggest using the Dogpile search engine and inputing iodine allergy. Anytime I have a question I get a lot of options this way.
If you can get yourself to a teaching hospital or a good medical school with a research department you might get treatment as a teaching subject. My uncle was treated successfully and free for a rare cancer at one of the UC schools. Check it out with your current doctors.

Been there, done that, although not positive about the anaphylactic shock. I’ve had bizarre symptoms that when I google them up, that’s the only thing that fits, but it never progresses. I don’t get hives or swelling and my blood pressure doesn’t drop. It, along with my heart rate, shoot up like his.
It lasts between a half an hour and 45 mins and subsides almost as fast as it comes on, medicine or not. It’s like my body is fighting it.
It is very debilitating and has effectively prevented me from working part time for extra income as well.
I have to carry my own food with me everywhere and cannot travel anywhere I can’t be sure of getting PLAIN, unsalted chicken (beef, lamb) and oats.
Do you have any idea how much of our lives revolves around food? I’d rather just not be able to eat at all than to have to eat and restrict it so much and wonder if what I’m eating this time will throw me into another reaction.
I haven’t felt good in ages.

I can do a few other foods if I only do a mouthful or two at a time, not too often.
It’s been enough to break the monotony of the continual chicken and oats.
My cholesterol numbers are phenomenal.

He hasn’t been of great help to MetMom.
However, thousands of folks have been healed through his teachings and ministry.
He particularly has had good results with folks who have had to live literally in plastic bubbles from so many allergies to substances, fumes, etc.
Anyway—FWIW.
CURRY BLAKE . . . don’t have his link handy . . . is different . . .
Henry Wright focuses on correcting spiritual issues, relationship issues which God has shown him result in lack of healing; body functioning right etc.
Curry Blake takes up where John G Lake left off . . . he has been training teams etc. around the country and around the world. He basically says that if someone’s faith is not sufficient for healing, they can lean on his faith . . . has had great success in many incurable cases. There may be some trained team members near you.
